Matchroom Multi Sport - A Major Announcement
Matchroom Multi Sport can announce that it has acquired full ownership of the US Open 9 Ball Championship in a ground-breaking move that is part of a long-term goal to take the event into the sports mainstream.
Barry Behrman had started the event in 1976 and had grown it over the decades into one of the most anticipated events in world pool and it now enters its 43rd year. Behrman passed away April 2016. His children continued the event in 2016 and 2017. Matchroom Chairman, Barry Hearn, recently signed an agreement with Behrman’s children, the heirs and executors of the Behrman estate.
Commented Barry Hearn, “This is momentous news for pool and is going to be a major boost for the sport and the industry. We’re not here to mess about and everything we’ve done in the world of pool is to the highest standard, with the best money, the best players, best TV production and huge global TV coverage, including North American TV. That is what we’re bringing to the Open.”

Main event
With Christmas and new year soon passing by, the event on the mind of all self-respecting pool players was soon upon us - the 2018 GB9 Midlands Classic! A healthy glut of new players assembled at the Park Inn by Radisson in
Telford, all hoping to get their hands on the Main Event trophy.
With brand new sponsorship for 2018 courtesy of Cyclop Balls and Andy Cloth, continued sponsorship by Rasson Billiards and McDermott Cues, a tweaked tournament format and fresh table layout, anticipation was at it’s very highest. The round one matches were soon underway, and the random draw threw up a clash of two titans on the TV table - The Magician Chris Melling and Dynamite Darren Appleton, back on the tour after dominating the international scene for a number of years. Melling was the favourite on paper, as Appleton has taken some leave of competition in recent months. The match itself panned out that way too - Appleton showing his class with some tough run-outs, but Melling looked that touch sharper. His kicking was also on form; the highlight being a slow one-railer to make a ball in the side pocket. 9-6 to Melling was a fair result. The Magician then faced a tough test in the face of Karl Boyes, who's GB9 record is phenomenal. 25 minutes and no mistakes later, Karl had despatched Chris to the one-loss side 9-2.

The Final
Niels Feijen 8 – 4 Shane Van Boening
Semi Finals
Niels Feijen 8 – 3 Karl Boyes
Shane Van Boening 8 – 3 Jayson Shaw
NIELS FEIJEN is the 2018 MansionBet World Pool Master overcoming Shane Van Boening to lift the title he won for the first time in 2013. In front of a packed house at the Victoria Stadium in Gibraltar, Feijen dominated the final from the off and was delighted to collect the trophy, presented by Minister for Sport, Culture, Heritage and Youth, Mr Steven Linares.
Feijen, who had been out of the game for the best part of six months with tendonitis, had endured surgery on his arm. He missed the Mosconi Cup last December and the MansionBet World Pool Masters represented his first tournament back in the spotlight.

Winner of the Dynamic Billard BHR Treviso Open 2018, Eklent Kaci from Albania

Eklent Kaci on fire
Young Eklent Kaci from Albania has just won his first Euro-Tour stop. He defeated Albin Ouschan (AUT) in the final match of the Dynamic Billard BHR Treviso Open 9:5.
Today, Kaci had a really tough draw. Coming from the loser’s side of the event, he first had to deal with Mateusz Sniegocki (POL). He won that match 9:4 to proceed into the quarter-finals. There, he faced Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz (ESP). Once again he dominated the table and won his match 9:6. In his semi-final, Kaci eliminated another Spaniard, winning 9:4 over Francisco Diaz-Pizarro (ESP). These victories ought him a ticket in the final match against Ouschan. That match was once again led and determined by Kaci. After 6 racks, the Albanian was up 5:1. Ouschan’s break shot let him down big time in the final. Kaci capitalised from Ouschan’s shortfall and won 5 out of the first 6 racks. At that time, Ouschan had already lowered his shields and obviously did not seem to believe in his victory anymore. However, after 11 racks Kaci was on the hill with a comfortable 8:3 lead over the former World 9-Ball Champion Ouschan. But then the Austrian seemed to get a second life. He played some confident shots and got to 8:5. But that was his final destination. Kaci got to the table being 8:5 up and finished the match to his likings, winning 9:5 over Albin Ouschan.

Kristina Tkach (RUS), winner of the first event in the EPBF Women Euro-Tour series 2018

Tkach draws first blood in Treviso
Kristina Tkach (RUS) wins the first women’s Euro-Tour event of the 2018 series, the EPBF BHR Treviso Open, with a more than clear 7:0 victory in the final match over Marharyta Fefilava (BLR).
Probably one of her toughest matches was the single elimination round of the last 16 players when Tkach met Jasmin Ouschan (AUT). After having taken a 4:1 lead over favoured Ouschan, Tkach lost her momentum a bit and Ouschan got back to 4:4. „At that point in time I struggled since I know that Jasmin is playing in another world than most of us“, stated Tkach. But she kept her nerves together and turned the tide in the match. Ouschan could not capitalise from her break shot while Tkach pocketed what came in front of her on the table. In the end, Tkach was the deserved 7:4 winner. Then she encountered Germany’s Ina Kaplan. That match was easier for her than she thought and in the end she advanced to the semi-finals with a clear 7:3 over Kaplan. In the semi-final match, Tkach almost found her Waterloo against Ana Gradisnik (SLO). Tkach was almost there, being on the hill with a more than comfortable 6:1 lead over Gradisnik when suddenly the Slovenian started to pull rack after rack from Tkach. The heat was really on in that match when Gradisnik got to 5:6. But then, Tkach showed her coolness and brought that match home, winning with 7:5 and entering the final match.

Maximilian Lechner (AUT)

Lechner, He and Ouschan all in the last 16
The Dynamic Billard BHR Treviso Open 2018 in Italy have been quite successful for the Austrian contingency so far. Three players have made it to the stage of the final 16 out of an initial starting group of 153 players.
Maximilian Lechner (AUT) is probably the biggest surprise of the group. He defeated Ante Sustic (CRO) 9:7 in his first match. Then, his way led him over Reda Belhaj (FRA) 9:2 before he had to give in 5:9 to Sergey Lutsker (RUS) in the winner’s qualification round today. But Lechner stood tall and won the loser’s qualifier with 9:7 over strong junior player Maksim Dudanets (RUS) 9:7. In the first single elimination round, when 32 players were left in the field, Lechner had to deal with Tomasz Kaplan (POL). The Polish is known to be a bit of a surprise box meaning that he has performed from world-class to low-class and everything in between over the recent years. Today, Kaplan’s performance was not good enough while Lechner found his A-game against his experienced opponent. 9:1 was the final result in favour of Lechner who will now play against fellow teammate Mario He (AUT) in the next round.
