Introducing: The New DigiCue BLUE - with Bluetooth

Monday 23 October 2017

Introducing: The New DigiCue BLUE Bluetooth enabled Billiard Training Device

After more than two years of research, we are pleased to announce The DigiCue BLUE Bluetooth® enabled Billiard Training Device. It analyzes your stroke and sends detailed statistics to your smartphone or mobile device. The brand new DigiCue BLUE works with the DigiCue app available for both iOS and android devices. The original DigiCue was a huge success and we have now followed that up with the most requested feature that we have been asked for, the ability for the device to sync with a smartphone or tablet and show you exactly what is happening when you stroke so that you can quickly improve your game and track your results overtime.

The MSRP is $187 for the DigiCue BLUE and both the iOS app and the android app will be a free download. For more information or to pre-order you can visit the OB Cues website here: https://www.obcues.com/products/DigiCue-BLUE-Training-Aid-with-Bluetooth%C2%AE-Technology-and-iOS-and-Android-Apps.html

NOTE: The DigiCue Blue's will ship out to dealers no later than November 17th (that is a worst case scenario). This will be the ultimate holiday gift!

Souquet: I’m overwhelmed to be back on Team Europe

Ralf Souquet says he is overwhelmed to have earnt a dream return to Team Europe for this year’s Mosconi Cup after a four-year absence.

‘The Kaiser’ will enter the Guinness Book of World Records this December, equalling Johnny Archer’s all-time Mosconi Cup appearance record of 17 having qualified at the top of the European Rankings with two Euro Tour wins.

Souquet has seen first-hand the wonders new USA captain Johan Ruijsink can perform having been part of the European team whose fortunes the Dutchman reversed when he took the reins in 2006 but is excited to work under Swede Marcus Chamat, who leads Europe for a third time at Mandalay Bay.

“I am overwhelmed that I have made the team again, especially after not playing for three consecutive years,” said Souquet. “I don't really think much about the record, but I take it as it is and it shows that I must have done some good things over the years.

The historic finals proved a lot at stake with either Thorsten Hohmann getting within 2 wins of tying Mosconi's 7 All Time World 14.1 wins or Lee Van Corteza becoming the first Asian World 14.1 Champion ever.

Lee Van Corteza Makes History: First Asian World 14.1 Champion

New York City- Philippines' Lee Van Corteza did what no other Asian before him could do before him, win the World 14.1. The slim, smooth playing Filipino became the Bottledeck.net 77th World 14.1 Champion, and doing so in fashion by defeating none other than the king of straight pool, Thorsten Hohmann of Germany.

The week long event was challenging with Corteza playing a total of 13 matches and pocketing almost 2000 balls. Hohmann had pocketed over 1700 shots. The World 14.1 title is perhaps the most hard earned title in billiards with no luck or short cuts in winning games.

Ralf Souquet (GER), taking his 23rd victory at Euro-Tour events

Ralf did it again!

The Dynamic Billard Klagenfurt Open are over and have a deserved winner. Ralf Souquet (GER) defeated Sebastian Ludwig (GER) in an exciting final with 9:6 and came up with an amazing comeback.
The final match did not start well for Souquet. The German BCA Hall of Famer had two balls down each in his first two break shots but no other ball touched the head string so he had to give the open table to Ludwig who cleared it and like that achieved a nice 3:0 lead over Souquet. In the next rack, Ludwig broke dry but Souquet missed the 1-ball. With this chance given, Ludwig increased the lead to 4:0. It took 5 racks to be played before Souquet got the chance to open his account and win his first rack to get to 4:1. As the match went along, Souquet got a bit better into the match and after 9 racks, the score was 5:4 in favour of Ludwig still. With his own break shot coming up, Ludwig decided to go for a timeout and get his things together again in order to maintain his lead over „The Kaiser“ and make it over the finish line first. But the tide has turned and fortune was reversed in the match. This time, Ludwig had two balls down on the break but the shot was illegal since no other ball broke the head string. Souquet used the chance and cleared the rack to get to 5:5. He even managed to win 3 more consecutive racks to get on the hill with 8:5. This after having trailed 1:5 in the match. What an amazing turnover from Souquet.

2017 Kremlin Cup - David Alcaide takes the Kremlin Cup trophy

Article - Lev Yaroslavtsev - www.billiard.su
Photography - ©JP Parmentier - jpparmentier.com

This year's Kremlin Cup 10-Ball event featured the strongest field ever with 10 out of 30 top WPA ranking players coming to Moscow. For the second year straight 101 participants filled the double elimination bracket with knock-out stage for last 32. Kremlin Cup is a WPA sanctioned event and for the first time it appeared as one of European qualification events for the Mosconi Cup. Therefore many pros travelled to Russia chasing valuable points.

Once again Poland appeared with strong representation led by Mateusz Sniegocki (World Pool Masters and Kremlin Cup winner back in 2012). Radoslaw Babica handed defeat to one of Russian top guns Konstantin Stepanov in the round of Last 16 and Wojciech Szewczyk managed to send no other than Shane Van Boening packing. Six Polish players advanced to single elimination but none of them finished on top four. Same goes about the Russians. None of the local players which represent a mix of skilled experience and young talents managed to go past the round of Last 16. Ruslan Chinakhov looked heavy favorite to go past Petri Makkonen of Finland at the scoreline of 5-0 in favor of The Siberian Express. But the Finn capitalized on some late mistakes by Chinakhov and produced one of the most wonderful comebacks winning the match on the hill from being 1-7 down in a race to 8.

The close association of gambling and cue sports

Advertisements

The close association of gambling and cue sports

The close association of gambling and cue sports is something that people should take into account. This is an association that has certainly has an extensive historical background. Cue sports go back to 15th century Europe, and they have undergone a great deal of development since then.

There are only so many cue sports to choose from, of course, given the nature of cue sports. Pool is probably the most famous and popular modern cue sport, although some people might still play Carom billiards, English billiards, and Snooker.

Even in the earlier days of cue sports, people liked to gamble on the results. Gambling was certainly popular throughout European history. While many people in 15th century Europe disapproved of gambling, it was still tremendously popular. Games involving dice and cards were popular for the gamblers of the Middle Ages.

As people developed new forms of games throughout the Renaissance and beyond, new opportunities for gambling certainly emerged. Gambling in the Middle Ages was largely about games of chance rather than games of skill. Pool and cue sports are partly appealing because they are both games of chance and games of skill.

IPA British Open Preview 2017

And so the IPA Pool Tour for 2017 draws to a close, with one more weekend of top class pool action to complete the set, and the titles of British Open, Professional, and Amateur Champions up for grabs at the Heston Hyde Hotel in Hounslow this weekend, from 10.00am on Friday 29th through to Sunday evening 1st of October. Add a long list of players looking for enough ranking points to be invited to turn professional next season, and the plain and simple fact that no serious sportsman or woman likes to taste defeat regardless, and the action will be as competitive and fiery as it was at event one, and with potential seeding ahead of the 2018 World Championships in February (open to all by the way) also at the back of some minds.
