Albin Ouschan conquers Dynamic Billard Dutch Open 2015 title

In a final that was mainly determined by one man, Albin Ouschan (AUT) defeated „The Maharaja“ Imran Majid (GBR) clearly with 9:2.

The early stage of the final match was determined by equal shotmaking of both players. Consequently, the scoreboard displayed 2:2 after four racks. In rack six, the referee called a foul shot on Majid which he disagreed with. However, Ouschan got to the table and managed to get a two-point lead for the first time in the match. It turned out that this situation became the turning point in the final.

Ouschan had some luck with his safety play but in the end did not allow Majid to win any more rack. He played consistently and paved his way to glory with solid pool and excellent shotmaking. 9:2 was the final result which brought Ouschan the victory at the Dynamic Billard Dutch Open.

„I was lucky at times with my safety play,“ admitted Ouschan after the match, „but all in all I think I have played some good pool here.“ „I have won the China Open this year, been Nr. 1 on the WPA rankings, played the World Cup of Pool and the Challenge of Champions recently and now came here to win the Euro-Tour. I think I’m ready for a little break to enjoy life with my girl-friend and our newly born daughter.“

In the semi-final, Majid got the better of Jonni Fulcher (GBR), winning clearly with 9:4. It was really a one man show by Majid who was leading 5:0 at some stage. The other semi-final between Ouschan and Sebastian Ludwig (GER) was a bit closer.

Chinese Taipei take World Cup in thriller

The Final

Chinese Taipei 10-8 England B

CHINESE TAIPEI came from 5-1 and 7-4 down to win their first Dafabet World Cup of Pool, beating England B 10-8 in the final.

It looked like a case of so near yet so far yet again for Chinese Taipei, four-times semi-finalists in the nine-year history of the scotch doubles event and represented this year by Ko Pin Yi and Chang Yu Lung. But a run of five consecutive racks saw them overcome their 7-4 deficit to arrive on the hill.

They lost control of the table at that stage and the England pair of Mark Gray and Daryl Peach clawed one back before a missed 3-ball proved costly for the home team.

For Ko it completed a dream fortnight after he won the WPA World 9-ball Championship in Doha last week.

Earlier in the tournament this England side had spoken of trying to win each ‘mini session’, the three racks played between commercial breaks. That is exactly how they started the final, leading 2-1 after the early changes.

It’s England B v Chinese Taipei for WCoP glory

Semi Final Matches

Chinese Taipei 9-6 England A
England B 9-7 Japan

THE FINAL OF the 2015 Dafabet World Cup of Pool will be between fourth seeds Chinese Taipei and 15th seeds England B as they both enjoyed victories this afternoon in London.
First the Taiwanese team defeated a completely out-of-sorts England A to send the defending champions crashing out, and then England B dug deep to overcome Japan.

Taking place at the York Hall in London, the Dafabet World Cup of Pool features 32 two-man teams from around the globe competing for a $250,000 prize fund. Televised live in over 40 countries around the world, the event is now entering its tenth year.

In the opening semi-final, Chinese Taipei made it through to the final of the 2015 Dafabet World Cup of Pool as they beat a very poor England A side that never really looked a threat to win. The Taiwanese pair of Ko Pin Yi and Chang Yu Lung became the first Taiwanese pairing to reach a World Cup of Pool final in the ten year history of the event while England’s dream of being the first team ever to defend the title evaporated in a haze of missed pots and poor positional play.

Both sides looked poor in the early stages and in the opener they both had shots on the 1 ball before Ko needed to jump out of a snooker but failed to connect. With ball in hand England opened their account. That soon became 2-0 before Boyes’s slow roll down table for a safe on the 1 ball, touched the 9 first and the Taiwanese made it 2-1.

Double delight for Teams England!

Quarter Final Matches

England A (1) 9-3 Romania
England B (15) 9-4 Finland (10)

THERE WAS double joy for English pool fans as both their sides won through to tomorrow’s semi-finals of the Dafabet World Cup of Pool with excellent wins in Bethnal Green. First the holders England A rolled over Romania who had done fantastically well to reach the last eight in their first World Cup. Then England B came from behind to put on a show as they took care of 2012 champions Finland.

England A can now look forward to facing Ko Pin Yi and Chang Yu Lung of Chinese Taipei while England B will face Naoyuki Oi and Toru Kuribayashi of Japan. Both matches take place on Sunday afternoon.

Taking place at the York Hall in London, the Dafabet World Cup of Pool features 32 two-man teams from around the globe competing for a $250,000 prize fund. Televised live in over 40 countries around the world, the event is now entering its tenth year.

England A enjoyed a comfortable 9-3 win over the surprise package Romanian side who had exceeded all expectations in reaching he quarter-finals with wins against two-time champions China as well as Indonesia.

There was an air of inevitability about the proceedings though as England ran away with it after Romania got off to a solid start. Babken, who looked nervy in their second round match against Indonesia, rolled home a pressure table length 6 ball to set up the first rack and that became 2-0 as Ladanyi laid a perfect snooker from which Appleton scratched.

Following a dry break, England won their first rack after both sides had chances and they took the next to level before an extraordinary incident occurred when Ladanyi inadvertently left his short cue extension under to top rail and the 2 ball hit it to give ball in hand to England and they cashed in for 3-2.

The English won the next for 4-2 for their fourth in a row before the Romanians steadied a shaky ship for 4-3. However, Ladanyi scratched on the 1 ball when there was no need and Appleton and Boyes ran out to go 5-3 in the lead.

The Romanians gained ball in hand in the ninth when Appleton jacked up with the cue ball very close to the 1 ball and the cue followed through to foul. Ladanyi though missed the 2 ball which proved very expensive as England cleared for 6-3.

Another miss on the 2 ball, this time by Melkonyan, was another gift for the English as they went to 7-3 and then 8-3 shortly after. The Romanians resistance was spent as England A took the final rack for an easy 9-3 victory.

Appleton analysed the win; “For 2-0 down we didn’t really do a lot wrong but they looked solid at the start but yesterday they couldn’t really make a ball. Today is a different day so we couldn’t take them lightly but from 2-0 we played solidly and they made a big mistake at 2-2 when he left his extension on the table.

Japan and Taiwan through!

Round 2 Scores

Chinese Taipei (4) 9-5 Austria
Japan (14) 9-4 Qatar

THERE WERE quarter-final wins for Chinese Taipei and Japan as the Dafabet World Cup of Pool continued in London on Saturday afternoon. The Taiwanese overcame a very unlucky Austrian side to book their fifth World Cup semi-final of which they’ve yet to win one. In the other match, Japan raced into a huge lead against Qatar before labouring to end it. They eventually fell over the line 9-4.

Taking place at the York Hall in London, the Dafabet World Cup of Pool features 32 two-man teams from around the globe competing for a $250,000 prize fund. Televised live in over 40 countries around the world, the event is now entering its tenth year.

In a high-quality match up, Chinese Taipei roared past the Austrian pair of Mario He and Albin Ouschan to become the first team to reach the semi-finals of the Dafabet World Cup of Pool. 9-5 was the score line as the Taiwanese started out strongly and maintained their dominance throughout.

The Austrians though enjoyed some atrocious luck as they scratched six times in total, with Mario He losing the white to the pocket three times from his break shot. However, the duo of Ko Pin Yi and Chang Yu Lung showed vision and creativity as they took on some amazing shots and were always on the offensive, looking for chances.

The Austrians had seven fouls, some of their own doing and some down to bad luck and that was a punishing statistic against the talented Taiwanese pair. One of the standouts of the match was a 2/9 combination by Ko to go 6-3 ahead as he kicked all the way up table to connect with the 2/9.

Qatar march on as Philippines exit early

Round 2 Scores

Qatar 7-3 Czech Republic
Finland (10) 7-4 Singapore
England B (15) 7-4 Philippines (2)

Friday evening was a tale of contrasting fortunes as Qatar put on a masterful performance to reach the quarter-finals for the first time in their history and the Philippines crashed out, failing to make the last eight for the first time in the tournament’s history. In the other match of the session, Finland once again won to look on track for their third semi-final in three years.

Taking place at the York Hall in London, the Dafabet World Cup of Pool features 32 two-man teams from around the globe competing for a $250,000 prize fund. Televised live in over 40 countries around the world, the event is now entering its tenth year.

England B – Daryl Peach and Mark Gray – started out as the big outsiders against Team Philippines but got off to a great start with some solid play and no mistakes as they took a 4-1 lead against the highly fancied Filipinos.

Warren Kiamco and Carlo Biado looked nervous and made some uncharacteristic errors to help the English on their way. However, a dry break from Peach gave the Philippines a chance and they ran the table out to get 1-4.

They took the next and when Gray scratched on the 2 ball following a push out, the Filipinos ran out to get within one of the English. A scratch from Peach left a tricky table but when Biado sunk the 9 ball to tie it up at 4-4, it began to look ominous.

That was as long as the comeback lasted. There was a safety battle on the 2 ball in the next but Biado left a look at it and Gray potted it down the side rail to set up the rack and restore the lead. In the next came an even bigger blow for the Filipinos. Placed in snooker by Biado, Peach outrageously fluked the 3 ball and obtained shape on the 4 and England B cleared for 6-4. They ran the next for an outstanding victory against the odds.

Gray said, “We had a great start with some good outs and we were playing well. But from 4-1 up Daryl got kicked in off on a break and we didn’t have much luck.; I played a good shot on the 2 to try and carom the 6 in and there was no gap but somehow the white scratched in off and the game turned to 4-4 and you are playing a best of five to get into the quarter-finals.

“We have a great chance of reaching the final. We haven’t had easy matches but we have beaten two good teams. We have played the Finnish lads many a time on the Euro Tour and we both have good head-to-head records against them so I am confident we can win that match.”

Peach added, “There were a few twists and turns but we were trying to win each mini interval 2-1 and we did win most of them 2-1. That gives you a short-term target. We played well and deserved the win.

“Finland is a tough match but so was that. It is a longer race so there is more time to settle down. They are a very good team as proven in the past when they have won it but my and Mark are a good team too and reached the final the only time we played the World Cup together, so we could be in for a good match.”

PRO9 has established an outstanding reputation as Europes No.1 source for information on American Pool in the UK and Europe. Upcoming tournament details, prompt match reporting, exclusive images by talented photographers, superb articles by expert pundits, active pool related forums, player profiles and a very sophisticated membership - basically, an incredible information resource for the American style game in Europe.
Since it launched, PRO9 has become compulsory reading, not just for the UKs pool players, but to hundreds and thousands of pool obsessives from around the world every single day.
PRO9s members range from professional pool players, cue-sports enthusiasts, club managers, tournament organisers, pool fans and aficionados, as well as various "movers and shakers" in the cue-sports field, including entrepreneurs in the wholesale and retail sector, as well as magazine editors and television sports promoters.
Growing more and more popular every single year, PRO9 is the best placed vehicle for the promotion of your pool club, billiards brand, associated products, services and opportunities in the truly massive pan-European billiard market.
