Albin Ouschan conquers Dynamic Billard Dutch Open 2015 title

In a final that was mainly determined by one man, Albin Ouschan (AUT) defeated „The Maharaja“ Imran Majid (GBR) clearly with 9:2.

The early stage of the final match was determined by equal shotmaking of both players. Consequently, the scoreboard displayed 2:2 after four racks. In rack six, the referee called a foul shot on Majid which he disagreed with. However, Ouschan got to the table and managed to get a two-point lead for the first time in the match. It turned out that this situation became the turning point in the final.

Ouschan had some luck with his safety play but in the end did not allow Majid to win any more rack. He played consistently and paved his way to glory with solid pool and excellent shotmaking. 9:2 was the final result which brought Ouschan the victory at the Dynamic Billard Dutch Open.

„I was lucky at times with my safety play,“ admitted Ouschan after the match, „but all in all I think I have played some good pool here.“ „I have won the China Open this year, been Nr. 1 on the WPA rankings, played the World Cup of Pool and the Challenge of Champions recently and now came here to win the Euro-Tour. I think I’m ready for a little break to enjoy life with my girl-friend and our newly born daughter.“

In the semi-final, Majid got the better of Jonni Fulcher (GBR), winning clearly with 9:4. It was really a one man show by Majid who was leading 5:0 at some stage. The other semi-final between Ouschan and Sebastian Ludwig (GER) was a bit closer.

After 12 racks, the match was tied at 6:6. Then Ouschan got the better roll of the balls and turned the match into a 9:6 victory for himself, defeating a strong Ludwig who has had two third-place finishes in a row.

Feijen and Van den Berg lift the „Dutch curse“ in Leende

Nick van den Berg and Niels Feijen have both made it into the round of the last 16 players at the Dynamic Billard Dutch Open at the Golden Tulip Jagershorst Hotel in Leende, The Netherlands. It looks very promising that we will have Dutch representation in the final stage of the event.

The current Nr. 1 ranked player of the Euro-Tour, Niels Feijen, has won four consecutive matches for his seat in the round of the last 16 players. He defeated Evangelos Vettas (GRE) 9:3 on Thursday, Sebastian Ludwig (GER) 9:6 on Friday and Mieszko Fortunski (POL) 9:7 as well as Petri Makkonen (FIN) with the same result today to show his strength and permanent high level of play in the Euro-Tour. In defeating Makkonen, Feijen also secured himself a spot on this year’s Mosconi Cup Team. Feijen will play against Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz (ESP) in the round of the last 16 players.

Nick van den Berg had to play more matches to get to this stage. He lost in the winner’s round to 15-year old Fedor Gorst from Moscow, Russia, yesterday. SO he needed three more victories to make it into the round of the last 32 players. But van den Berg is a fighter and a high profile player. He defeated Karol Skowerski (POL) 9:6, Christian Sparrenloev-Fischer (SWE) 9:3 and Mihai-Robert Braga (ROM) 9:5 in order to get drawn into the round of the last 32 players. And there he was meant to get his revenge since he was drawn against Fedor Gorst again.

This time, van den Berg again took an 8:3 lead over Gorst and AGAIN committed a mistake at that score. It looked like history could repeat itself. But at 4:8, Gorst missed an easy 2-ball and paved the way for van den Berg to win the match with 9:4 this time. Van den Berg will play Alexander Kazakis (GRE) in the next round.

Other remarkable matches from today include Can Salim-Giasar (GER) ousting German wonderkid Joshua Filler with 9:7. Piotr Kudlik (POL) defeated Tony Drago (MLT) in the same round with 9:8. Jonni Fulcher (GBR) overpowered Ralf Souquet (GER) with 9:8. Another 9:8 victory was on Petri Makkonen’s side when he ousted Daryl Peach (GBR).

Last 16 players:
Niels Feijen (NED) v Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz (ESP)
Jonni Fulcher (GBR) v Viktor Zielinski (POL)
Nick van den Berg (NED) v Alexander Kazakis (GRE)
Imran Majid (GBR) v Konstantin Stepanov (RUS)
Sebastian Ludwig (GER) v Konrad Juszczyszyn (POL)
Mieszko Fortunski (POL) v Denis Grabe (EST)
Radoslaw Babica (POL) v Albin Ouschan (AUT)
Oliver Ortmann (GER) v Mark Gray (GBR)

Matches will continue tomorrow at 09:00 with the round of the last 16 players.

Gorst wins terrific comeback match over van den Berg

Fedor Gorst, 15-year-old player from Moscow, Russia, just came up with a magnificent comeback against Nick van den Berg (NED), winning the match with 9:8.

In the beginning everything looked like business as usual. Nick van den Berg, multiple European Champion and winner of 3 Euro-Tour stops, Mosconi Cup team player, was definitely favored over young talent Fedor Gorst. He took a quick 8:3 lead and went on the hill without any hiccups.

It looked like the match would be over after a short time with an expected victor. But after rack eleven, the tide has turned in the match. Van den Berg’s break did not come anymore and Gorst hung in there, not accepting the threat of losing.

To the contrary, it looked like Gorst grew stronger and stronger with every chance he could get. The match was really very entertaining to watch and after 16 racks played, the scoreboard suddenly displayed a tie at 8:8. The match had turned into a one-rack-decider.

What a drama! In rack 17, van den Berg was definitely the better player. He played a good safety shot and left nothing for Gorst who could only hit the colored ball but left a shot for van den Berg. The Dutch however ran out of position for the 6-ball and had to play another safety shot which he did with all of his experience.

The cue ball was hiding behind the 9-ball and the 6-ball was some 30 centimeters away, completely blocked. But Gorst went for it and flukes it in over two rails first, sinking the 6-ball in the side pocket. He then ran the remaining balls on the table to win the match with 9:8 and send Nick van den Berg to the loser’s side.

Other interesting results from today include Kasper Kristoffersen (DEN) winning 9:8 over Jim Chawki (SWE) in a match that was characterized by many errors from both players. IN an all-Polish clash, young Wiktor Zielinski defeated grandmaster Mateusz Sniegocki with 9:8. Alexander Kazakis (GRE) showed no mercy with Juan Carlos Exposito (ESP), creaming him with 9:1. Imran Majid (GBR) took down Francisco Sanchez Ruiz (ESP) with 9:7.

After a long time of absence, Artem Koshovyi (UKR) is entering the European pool stage again. Today, his victim was Ralph Eckert (GER) with 9:4. „The Tornado“ Tony Drago (MLT) was already trailing 2:5 to Nikos Ekonomopoulos (GRE) when he seemed to shift into overdrive and started playing unbelievably strong. He allowed one more rack for Ekonomopoulos to take, winning the match with 9:6.

Joshua Filler (GER) turned 18 years old today and made himself a nice gift, winning with 9:2 over Wojciech Szewczyk (POL). Unheralded Roy Stolk (NED) powered past Andrey Seroshtan (RUS) with 9:3 and also proceeds to the winner’s qualification round. Mark Gray (GBR) defeated Steve Leisen (LUX) with a clear and unchallenged victory of 9:3.

Matches will continue tomorrow at 09:00 with the third loser’s round.

Dutch Radio DJ participates in Dynamic Billard Dutch Open

He entered the main arena with a house cue and lost his match to Damianos Giallourakis (GRE) with 0:9…. but it seemed that he was enjoying his time.
The talk is of Frank Dane, a well known Dutch Radio DJ and leisure time pool player. „We love to have a game of 9-ball in between our radio shows“, explained Dane after his match, „and once we were talking about it. We then got a call and me and my friend got invited to this event.“ „Actually, I’m not a pool player at all, everything started from a joke and I just showed up but I must say I really enjoyed my day here. Everyone is so nice and friendly but probably also everyone here would beat me“, added Dane. He was certainly an asset to the Dynamic Billard Dutch Open.

More remarkable results of today include Mateusz Szaszor (POL) defeating favored Nick Malai (GRE) with 9:7. Ralph Eckert (GER) just remained the upper hand over Pawel Misiak (POL), winning with 9:8. Andy Worthington (GBR) got the better of Ivo Aarts (NED) by winning with 9:7. Being 7:8 down, Aarts forfeited the match with 7 balls still remaining on the table.

In the first winner’s round, we had „The Terminator“ Niels Feijen (NED), currently ranked Nr. 1 in the Euro-Tour rankings, snatching his match with 9:3 over Evangelos Vettas (GRE). Feijen’s teammate Nick van den Berg (NED) also won with 9:5 over Alan Conway (IRE). Mihai Robert Braga (ROM) delivered a small upset to the event, winning with 9:8 over Karol Skowerski (POL). Young gun Joshua Filler (GER) won his first match clearly by smashing Lars van Dijk (NED) 9:4. Mark Gray (GBR) took care of Babken Melkonyan (ROM) also with 9:4.
Matches will continue tomorrow at 09:00 with the matches of the first loser’s round.

Dynamic Billard Dutch Open ready for action

The 5th stop of the 2015 Euro-Tour series, the Dynamic Billard Dutch Open is ready to take off at the Golden Tulip Jagershorst Hotel in Leende, The Netherlands.

The Hotel hosts an international event for the 5th time now. It all began with the European Championships for seniors 2007. From then on, the Golden Tulip Jagershorst Hotel with its unique architecture and design has been chosen several times for high class pool events. Especially the design of the rooms and the interior is next to nothing in this flamboyant place.

Due to space limitations, the event will be played on 11 tables and therefore will take one day longer than usual. Starting with the first round matches tomorrow morning at 09:00 CET, the winner will be determined after the final match which is scheduled for Sunday, October 4th, at 18:00 local time.

The internet facilities of the hotel have just been renewed and brought up to the latest level of technology. Therefore, the stream is expected to leave nothing to be desired.

The tournament carries a prize money fund of 34.000,-€ in total. However, this time the ranking points might be even more important than the financial aspect. After this event is the cutoff date for the selection of the European Mosconi Cup team which all players would like to make, of course.

Currently, Niels Feijen (NED) is dominating the rankings. He has had a convincing year with two victories in Treviso and St. Johann and has 2550 points in his account, losing 300 from his 17th place last year in Portoroz. His closest contender is Mark Gray (GBR), last year’s winner of the Dynamic Billard Dutch Open and currently ranked Nr. 2 on the Euro-Tour rankings. He is trailing Feijen with 300 points, having 2250 points and losing 370 from Portoroz.

So he will need to get far in this event and also need Feijen to drop out soon if he wants to conquer the top position after the tournament. Number 3 is Marcus Chamat (SWE) who cancelled his participation here so he will drop down in the rankings. More players with a decent chance are Petri Makkonen (FIN), Mario He (AUT) and Nick van den Berg (NED).

It will be interesting to see whether the „Dutch curse“ can be lifted at this tournament. Usually, Dutch players get pretty far in almost all events of the Euro-Tour. However, on their home soil last year none of them conquered one of the top 8 spots. Can they change that this time?

The action will start tomorrow at 09:00 with the matches of the first round.

All matches can be viewed LIVE at www.kozoom.com. Up to 11 tables in HiRes quality are providing you with all the action of the event. You do not miss out one single match! Join today!

More information about participants, schedules, achievements, rankings, etc can be found on the event website www.eurotouronline.com
