| 2017 Dafabet World Pool Masters - Alcaide is the Master! |

The Final David Alcaide (ESP) 8-7 Jayson Shaw (SCO) Semi-Finals Albin Ouschan (AUT) 6-8 David Alcaide (ESP) Jayson Shaw (SCO) 8-3 Chang Jung Lin (TPE) SPAIN’S DAVID ALCAIDE is the 2017 World Pool Masters champion as he beat Jayson Shaw in a thrilling final that went down to the final rack. The Malaga man, who now lives near Madrid, had beaten a slew of star names en route to ultimate victory – Ralf Souquet, Shane Van Boening, Albin Ouschan and finally Jayson Shaw. Alcaide was so overcome with emotion at the end that he needed to leave the arena and compose himself before the trophy presentation by The Hon Steven Linares, the Gibraltarian Minister of Sport. The gutsy Spaniard picked up a $20,000 payday and more importantly joins a list all-time greats of the game who have held aloft this coveted trophy. The match itself was a thriller from start to finish. “This trophy is for my children,” said Alcaide. “Thank you to Matchroom for the invitation to the tournament and thank you to all of my fans. I hope to play here next year and defend the title.”
Shaw had been gifted a free pass in Sunday afternoon’s quarter final when Alex Pagulayan missed the 9 ball with the score at hill-hill, and he took advantage to cruise past Chang Jung Lin in the semi-final. Alcaide overcame a shaky start against Albin Ouschan in his last four match to dominate the table and run out an 8-6 winner. As the final match unravelled, they shared the opening four racks before Shaw moved into a 4-2 lead in the race to eight encounter. Alcaide took the next and despite some nervous moments tied the match up in the eighth game. Shaw though missed the brown 7 down the rail to give his opponent a great chance to clear which he did to take the lead for the first time at 5-4. The Spaniard came up with a dry break in the next and Shaw seized the chance to run out for 5-5. Shaw took the next running out, but Alcaide got back to the table in the twelfth game and made a great run out to bring a roar from his bank of fans. The 8 and the 9 were stuck together but his clever positional play allowed him to get behind the 8 ball and push it into the centre pocket. Share this article on FaceBook

Internet sensation Naoyuki Oi ended his run at the 2017 Dafabet World Pool Masters as Albin Ouschan cruised past him for an 8-4 win. The Japanese’ bizarre post-match interview with Sky Sports’ presenter Tony Wrighton yesterday had gone viral overnight registering views of over a million on several sites. It was even shown on Australian TV. Commented Ouschan, “I didn’t play much better than the first match (where he beat Mika Immonen in the first round). I made two easy mistakes, twice on the same ball, but still I made four or five run outs which gave me the win in the end. Share this article on FaceBook

| 2017 Dafabet World Pool Masters - Shane on track for Masters No.3 |

Friday - Sunday 17-19 February 2017
Click the image to view the full size photograph - use "back" to return here. Shane on track for Masters No.3
Shane Van Boening (USA) 8-2 Francisco Sanchez Ruiz (ESP) David Alcaide (ESP) 8-3 Ralf Souquet (GER) Albin Ouschan (AUT) 8-6 Mika Immonen (FIN) THERE WERE wins for Shane Van Boening, David Alcaide and Albin Ouschan as the 24th annual Dafabet World Pool Masters got underway in Gibraltar on Friday evening. Taking place at the Victoria Stadium, the Masters sees 16 top international players competing in the shadow of the Rock of Gibraltar to determine the destination of the $20,000 top prize. The whole event is broadcast live on Sky Sports in the UK & Ireland and on networks around the world. Defending champion Shane Van Boening got off to a great starts as he looks to win his third consecutive World Pool Masters title. He beat up-and-coming young Spaniard Francisco Sanchez Ruiz 8-3 and looked in good stroke throughout the match. In 2015, Van Boening became the first player to win back-to-back Masters in the 23 year history of the event and with the event skipping a year in 2016, he is three matches away from a 3-peat. “The first match is always tough,” said Shane. “At any tournament I go to I think about the first match – you’re not used to the atmosphere, you don’t know the table very well. Tonight I was comfortable and I have been working on my game all day and it worked well.
“I am playing tournaments all year long so I don’t feel any pressure, I just want to play my game. I won five US Opens with the winner breaks format and it is to my advantage to winner tournaments.”

| 2017 Dafabet World Pool Masters - Final line-up announced |
The Dafabet World Pool Masters XXIV Tercentenary Sports Hall Victoria Stadium Bayside Road Gibraltar UNITED KINGDOM www.matchroompool.com - wpm - facebook - twitter www.buytickets.gi - tickets www.sky.com

Click the image to view the full size photograph - use "back" to return here. Immonen and Cheng are last minute subs
WITH TWO last minute drop outs due to visa issues, Matchroom Sport can announce the final line-up of the 24th Dafabet World Pool Masters, which gets underway tomorrow Friday, February 17 concluding on Sunday. Cheng Yu Hsuan aka Kevin Cheng (Chinese Taipei), the 2015 US Open Champion, steps in to replace Wu Jiaqing (China) while Hall of Famer Mika Immonen of Finland comes in for Lee Vann Corteza. Taking place at the Victoria Stadium, Gibraltar, the Masters sees 16 top international players competing in the shadow of the Rock of Gibraltar to determine the destination of the $20,000 top prize. For Immonen, it is a great chance to put a World Pool Masters victory on his resume after many attempts, the nearest being an 8-6 defeat to Alex Pagulayan in the championship match in Las Vegas in 2008. “This is one title I haven’t managed to claim so I grabbed at the chance to travel last minute from New York to Gibraltar. I feel as if I’ve got nothing to lose and I’m really looking forward to facing Albin Ouschan on Friday night,” said Immonen.

Friday - Sunday 17-19 February 2017
Dafabet Sponsors World Pool Masters
DAFABET will be the title sponsors of the 24th World Pool Masters, which takes place from Friday, February 17 until Sunday, February 19 at Victoria Stadium, Gibraltar. 16 of the world’s best players will gather in the shadow of the famous Rock of Gibraltar to contest the Masters and determine the destination of the $20,000 top prize. | Craig Marsh - 2017 IPA World Champion |
IPA present - 2017 IPA World Championships Hilton Bradford Hotel Hall Ings Bradford BD1 5SH United Kingdom www.ipapool.com - facebook - twitter - youtube www.hilton.com
Tuesday 31st January - Sunday 5th February 2017
Craig Marsh - 2017 IPA World Champion
First things first and each and every year the IPA World Professional Pool Championships are getting better and better. Last year the introduction of a betting partner in Coral took entries though the roof and this year we introduced a new Simonis cloth – grey instead of green (no longer the insulting “small snooker label thank you very much), harder working, easier to clean, and more importantly no nap and no roll offs so very very popular with the players.
The highest ever list of entries entry started off on Tuesday with five titles up for grabs (Open, Ladies, Seniors, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles), but by late Saturday afternoon the numbers had been pared down to just the four in the main event with 2016 runner-up Craig Marsh up against Ian Ali in the first semi final and Yannick Beaufils versus Simon Fitzsimmons in the other. Craig went through by a score line of 3-1 before a longer battle eventually saw Simon also win by three sets to one to go in to his first ever IPA World Final on Saturday evening.
