| 2016 GB9 Paul Medati Trophy - Official Event Report |
2016 GB9 PAUL MEDATI TROPHY Including The Pro Cup (II) & Challenge Cup (II) Park Inn by Radisson Hotel Forgegate Telford Centre Shropshire TF3 4NA United Kingdom www.gb9balltour.com - event 3 details - Facebook - Twitter www.parkinn.co.uk
Friday - Sunday 8/9/10 April 2016
2016 GB9 Paul Medati Trophy Champion, Mark Gray Click the image to view the larger photo - use "back" to return here. One of the most prestigious weekends in the GB9 calendar has reached its climax, and it’s Mark Gray, Benji Buckley and Jamie Brennan who have walked away with the silverware in Telford. GRANITE HOLDS FIRM FOR THIRD TITLE The final of the 8th Paul Medati Trophy was fittingly contested between two of the tour’s finest and longest serving members – Mark Gray, aiming to win his 7th main event title, and stalwart Stewart Colclough looking to finally break his duck. Both players began their conquests in the first winners round, with Mark Gray coming up against and defeating Jamie Brennan by 9 racks to 3. Welshman Marcel Price was next up in round 2, but an emphatic 9-1 win for Gray ensured it was the Englishman who progressed to the winners qualifying round. This time it was a Scotsman, Chris Fraser, looking to halt Gray’s progress. He was indeed successful – Gray succumbing to a surprise 9-4 defeat which meant that defeat to Al Coton in the losers qualifying round would see him out of the tournament. That was a wake up call for Gray who secured a 7-1 win to progress to the last 16. There he faced newly crowned World Blackball Champion and GB9 debutant Gareth Hibbott. Gray was taking no chances against him, and a big 9-1 win meant that a quarter final with Jordan Church was on the cards. Gray’s ruthless form continued here with a 9-2 victory, and even when faced with Jayson Shaw in the semi finals he wasn’t letting up. 9-3 was the score line with which he defeat Shaw, leaving him one win away from back to back main event titles.
Colclough’s first match was unlike Gray’s in so much as Terry Davies took the game to Colclough right to the end. The Welshman finally was defeat by 9 racks to 8, however, leaving Colclough to face Ben George in winners round 2. He allowed himself a little more breathing space with a 9-3 victory, meaning that Bournemouth’s Damian Massey would face off against him for a spot in the last 16. Massey proved victorious in this encounter, winning through 9-6 and sending Colclough to the last chance saloon one-loss bracket. Andrew John was the one to try and finish off the work Massey started, but Colclough soared back to form with a decent 7-2 win. The last 16 draw pitted Colclough and Massey together once again in what turned out being one of the ties of the round. Keen to make amends, Colclough produced the goods when it mattered and eliminated Massey from the tournament with a 9-6 win of his own. The last 8 saw London’s Ashik Nathwani attempt to make his first main event semi final, but Colclough was clearly buoyed with his previous performance and proceeded to the semi finals 9 racks to 3. Chris Hall, himself looking to meet Mark Gray in a main event final for the second successive event, was last to try and stop the progress of the Mancunian. He couldn’t manage it, however, and a 9-2 win put Colclough into his first main event final. The final promised to be a high quality encounter and the two players didn’t disappoint. It was Gray, however, who continued his stunning form in 2016. He defeated Colclough by 11 racks to 7 to take him within touching distance of the #1 ranked spot currently occupied by Craig Osborne. Colclough takes himself up to a career high of British #5.

| 2016 Mosconi Cup XXIII - Team USA Latest Rankings |
2016 Mosconi Cup XXIII Alexandra Palace Alexandra Palace Way London Greater London N22 7AY www.matchroompool.com - facebook - twitter - instagram - youtube - full rankings www.alexandrapalace.com
Tuesday-Friday 6-9 December 2016
Rocket on top after Don Coates win AFTER EIGHT events on the Official Mosconi Cup Team USA Ranking list, it is Rodney Morris who leads the way following a win at the Don Coates Memorial. Having had a great start to the MC qualifying season, the ‘Rocket’ is looking to make a return to the side following his last appearance in 2013. A Mosconi Cup MVP back in 2003, Morris has made a total of nine appearances in the event with a 48% win record. Filling out the other two automatic spots are Mike Dechaine who in second place as he looks to make his fourth MC appearance. Hot on his heels is Oscar Dominguez, a winner of two events this season and just three points adrift. In other US-related Mosconi Cup news, there are two additional events added to the roster while another event has been upgraded due to additional added money. In early July, the West Coast Challenge 10-Ball is taking place at California Billiards in Fremont, CA. This event has a 128 player field, $10,000 added and is played on 9ft Gold Crowns and is therefore a Level 2, Grade 2 event.

With solid performances, Mark Gray (GBR) won the Dynamic Billard Austrian Open and Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) won the Ballazzo Austrian Women’s Open in Alpina Sports and Wellness Hotel in St. Johann i.Pg., Austria.
The men’s final was played between highly favored Mark Gray and underdog Ronald Regli (SUI). The way to the final match today lead Regli over Petri Makkonen (FIN) 9:7, Ivo Aarts (NED) 9:6 and Marco Teutscher (NED) 9:5 in the semi-finals. Gray defeated Imran Majid (GBR) 9:3, Sebastian Staab (GER) 9:6 and Joshua Filler (GER) 9:6 for his seat in the final match. Gray, being the favored player here took the stage and opened his account first. After Gray took a 2:0 lead, Regli was able to pull two racks back and tie the match at 2:2. The match went along quite evenly with both players taking racks but Gray always had that small advantage over Regli at all times. At 5:5, Gray went ahead and took the next three racks in order to get on the hill with 8:5. In rack 14, Regli was a bit unlucky. He went for a jumpsuit on the 3-ball but he left it hanging over the pocket for Gray. That brought the Brit back to the table who showed no mercy and ran the final rack to win the match and the tournament with 9:5.
That victory puts Gray on top of the European rankings.

The final matches of this year’s Dynamic Billard European Championships for Men, Women and Wheelchair Athletes have been played. The last titles were taken by Kamila Khodjaeva (BEL), Henrik Larsson (SWE) and Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz (ESP).
The men’s final was more or less a one man show from Sanchez-Ruiz. His opponent Joshua Filler (GER) could not find into the match at all and when he was at the table he seemed to make the wrong decisions regarding his shot selection.

The 8-ball titles at the Dynamic Billard European Championships for men, women and wheelchair athletes have been collected by Kristina Tkach (RUS), Henrik Larsson (SWE) and Vitaliy Patsura (UKR).
The final match in the men’s division between Vitaliy Patsura (UKR) and Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz (ESP) started out quite even for both contestants. They both took two racks in a row and the scoreboard displayed a score of 2:2 after four racks. The first „mistake“ committed in the match happened at 4:3 in favor of Sanchez when Patsura’s break was coming up. He broke the balls and the cue ball scratched in the side pocket. Sanchez got ball in hand and managed to take a two point lead over Patsura with 5:3. Whether that influenced Patsura heavily or not is hard to say. However, he missed another easy shot in the next rack...
