JASPERS IS THE 2009 AGIPI BILLIARD MASTERS CHAMPION

Dutch D1ck Jaspers has beaten Torbjörn Blomdahl in this year's final of the AGIPI Billiard Masters, taking revenge for last year's loss against the legendary Swede.

D1ck Jaspers managed to upgrade his game when the tournament reached the final stage. He opened up the match in the fifth inning by scoring six. Blomdahl responded with an eleven-point run, but in the two consecutive innings the Dutchman outbid the Swede with a seven and a nine-point run. Jaspers never looked back after that and seized victory with an average of 2.632.

The AGIPI Masters title is not only about pride and honour. Including bonuses for high runs, high averages and results in the group stages, Jaspers cashes 20.550€ (approx. £18,900) and Blomdahl takes home 14.450€ (approx. £13,300).

£10 entry for 9 ball fun in Sunderland

Here at Pro9 we're often asked if we know of any local 9 ball tournaments in the Sunderland area - and now we're happy to say - YES! The Sunderland Premier Pool League is a "reds and yellows" affair that are dipping their toes into the American Pool scene with some fun and friendly 9 ball events.

The Sunderland 9-Ball Championship 2009 is the very first nine ball tournament on the SPPL calendar and entry to the first championship is open to everyone. They are initially hoping for a field of 32 players, and will pay out all entry fees in prize money. You can get more details about this tournament at their web site (listed above) and even sign-up online in their forums and pay-on-the-day!

Dutch Dynamite D1ck reaches final once more.

Just as last year, D1ck Jaspers, the current number one on the world rankings, has made it to the final of the Agipi Billiard Masters with a victory over Frederic Caudron in the semifinal at Schiltigheim this weekend.

In the beginning, both players were clearly suffering from the pressure, a combination of respect for the opponent, the live broadcast on Eurosport 2 and the mere fact that the Agipi Masters is the best tournament of the year. The time and place where the champions get the chance to show that they are true champions.

Frederic Caudron is through to the semi-finals at the AGIPI Billiard Masters.

QUARTER FINAL 3

Agipi stalwart and thus crowd favourite here in Schiltigheim, Frederic Caudron has entered the semi-final stage of the Masters with a firm step. He beat Filipos Kasidokostas with a score of 50-27 and a final average of 2.500.

Things did not look rosy for the likeable Belgian right from the start. The twenty-five year young Kasidokostas ran away in the beginning, making use of uncharacteristic errors from le Maréchal. Youngblood led 17-6 and was looking in form, moving fluently around the table, combining smooth cueing with quick decision making.

Draw and Schedule Announced!

TWO members of the victorious European Mosconi Cup-winning side will go head-to-head at the 2009 PartyPoker.net World Pool Masters.

The event, which will be staged at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, USA, from May 8 to May 10, features 16 of the best players in the world, all vying for the $20,000 top prize.

The pick of the first round matches sees Tony Drago and Niels Feijen, two of the players who helped Europe win the last two Mosconi Cups, paired together in a mouth-watering clash.

Filipino Alex Pagulayan, who defeated Finn Mika Immonen in the 2008 Masters final, has a tough opening tie as he is up against Holland's Nick van den Berg, the current European number three.

Barry Hearn, Matchroom Sport's Chairman, believes the 2009 Masters could be the best yet.

"Once again the Masters has thrown up a selection of superb first round games that would require a brave man to pick the winner," said Hearn.

Roland Forthomme in action at the Auditorium AGIPI.

FORTHOMME EDGES BURY IN A THRILLER

Roland Forthomme is the first player to qualify for the semi-finals of the Agipi Billiard Masters, with his 50-49 victory over Agipi stalwart Jeremy Bury. The billiard loving fans that witnessed the match live in the Agipi auditorium, on the internet or on Eurosport 2, got all the action they could wish for.

Jeremy led 25-16 when a time-out was taken. In the restroom fans were chatting away that Mr. Bombastic from Belgium - Forthomme that is - could easily hit back with a big run. He did just that. When play was resumed, he kept Jeremy in his chair for nine consecutive shots leveling the score at 25-25. Forthomme’s charge loosened up his arm while causing the opposite effect on Jeremy’s. After the twenty-fifth inning Forthomme led 43-34, with Jeremy failing to make a point in nine consecutive innings.

AGIPI BILLIARD MASTERS 2009 FINAL STAGES LIVE THIS WEEKEND

AGIPI raises the bar again in the world of cue sports, aiming to attain the status of a highly professional sporting event. Twenty of the best players in the world, of which eight world champions, took part in the event. A prize fund of an estimated 130.000€, including an exclusive performance-based bonus system. Three-Cushion Billiard is thus discovering new grounds and fans around the world can witness the marvellous artistry of these eight remaining champions.

2008 Sang Lee Memorial Open Winner Roland Forthomme will first battle with 2008 World Championship Bronze Medallist Jérémy Bury from France.

Centre stage action will then follow with record-breaking D1ck Jaspers from the Netherlands, who many consider as the favourite of the event, against Eddy Merckx – who twice scored 50 points in 17 innings, the best performances seen during the qualification.

Friday action will start with the Belgian genius Frédéric Caudron against youngster Filipos Kasidokostas from Greece. It will then be followed by the highlight of these stages: Semih Sayginer against Torbjörn Blomdahl, a Clash of the Titans.

The staff at the Reading 9 Ball Open.

Group stages are the order of the day at Reading 9 Ball

The beautifully converted cinema that is Rileys Reading was swathed in glorious sunshine this morning and play had already begun on schedule. Standby for the numbers, there's lots coming... Yes, eight groups of five players battled it out in "best of seven racks" format with the top two from each group qualifying for the last sixteen, single elimination race to eight format.

All the tables have been freshly tapped and the "three point rule" is in force, whereby players get a point for each ball sunk on the break and another point for each ball that enters the kitchen. Players who don't make a minimum of three points on the break are considered to have made a foul break and must lose their turn at the table. It's still very strange seeing a "big" break punished, even if it sinks two balls!
