Finalists Karl Boyes (left) and Craig Osborne (right) lag for the first break

    Boyes wins Nottingham thriller!

Karl Boyes has added another 9 ball trophy to his ever growing collection this weekend by winning the BPPPA's Nottingham Open with a nail-biting 11-10 win over Ipswich's Craig Osborne.

Click on "Read More..." for the details.

Ashfan Memon is becoming a regular face on the tour - his game is going from strength to strength and he's another example of the high calibre of players coming from Leicester recently. Ash used to play more 8-Ball but was encouraged to start playing 9-Ball by some friends, and is now a fully fledged convert to the big ball game!

Craig Dixon made has started making appearances at some of the "big table" pool events lately, namely the recent 8-Ball event in Barnsley and now this 9-Ball event in Nottingham. I managed to get a few words with him, and although he's only been playing 9-ball for a couple of weeks I asked him why he was playing 9-ball.

"It's a lot more enjoyable than English 8-ball. There's just so much more you can do on the table. Straight pool, banking, 9-ball, 10-ball, 8-ball - you're not just playing reds and yellows are you?"

How is he coping with the adjustments necessary when moving from the small ball game? "It's alright, I used to play a bit of snooker, it's just a case of getting used to the pace of the cushions and the bigger balls on the cloth."

He's seems to have enjoyed his foray into 9-ball saying, "the people are friendly, and you can have a good crack."

How did he fare at the event? Well, I'll let Craig tell you in his own words, "There were three people I didn't want to draw. Tommy Donlon, Karl Boyes or Daryl Peach. I got Tommy Donlon in the main and lost to Boysi then - nightmare!"

    :D Welcome to 9-ball Craig!

The "Mafia" was shooting the place down in Nottingham this weekend! Well, Andy "Mafia" Mistry was there at least!

It was great to see some of the 5 strong GB Juniors team members presented with their medals earned from their recent success at the European Championships at Willingen in Germany.

Pictured is Phil Burford (left) who received a Silver Medal for the Team Event, and Thomas Ainsworth-Smith (right) who also received Silver for the Team Event, and he also received Silver for the Juniors 9-Ball discipline too!
