Francisco Sanchez Ruiz Claims Premier League Pool Title

Francisco Sanchez Ruiz has won the 2023 Premier League Pool title beating Jayson Shaw in the final 7-4 at the Morningside Arena, Leicester, England live on Matchroom.Live, Viaplay, and networks worldwide.

Final Table

Sanchez Ruiz reached his fourth final in the last five Matchroom individual tournaments and did so by finishing top of the league by four points with a record 22 points overall before meeting Naoyuki Oi in the semi-finals. Oi maintained his spot in the top six for most of the week going into the final day and made sure of his spot late on with a 5-3 win over Shaw. A year back, Oi missed out on the final four by rack difference but on this occasion, the tables turned as Sushi Boom made it on the number by racks won. When it came to the semi-final, Sanchez Ruiz slayed Oi 7-3 at a canter to set up a tantalising final with either Sanjin Pehlivanovic or Shaw.

Pehlivanovic had led for large parts of this week but fell off the pace over the weekend, but held it together on the final day to face a tough semi-final with Shaw. Shaw meanwhile has played with freedom all week and hadn't looked too fazed with the job at hand. The Brit lost the opening rack but came good from there to leave Pehlivanovic trailing in his wake at 6-3 before wrapping up victory at 7-4.

Konrad Juszczyszyn's faint hopes of making the final four were ended abruptly in the afternoon whilst Alex Pagulayan missed out on the final spot by the margin of racks won to Oi. Pagulayan needed a heavy Oi defeat late on and at least register his own win. Pagulayan got the win but the heavy loss he needed Juszczyszyn to inflict on Oi along with Shaw beating him was not forthcoming for Sushi Boom.

Into the final, Shaw won the lag but lost out in the opening rack before Sanchez Ruiz stepped up to make a golden break in the second to lead by two. Shaw came back strong through with a break and run to pull it to 2-1. There was very little to separate the pair as it soon went 3-3 and 4-4. The 4-4 moment was a bruising moment for Shaw's hopes with a missed cut on the three ball. From there, Sanchez Ruiz by his own admission had the luck of the green for another Matchroom title after in the final rack Shaw was left hooked off the break only to see his safety on the two in firing range for Sanchez Ruiz to deliver the fatal final blow.

Sanchez Ruiz said: "I am so proud but I am sorry for Jayson because I got lucky. I feel so sorry for him, he played good, especially in the final. It's an unbelievable feeling if I continue playing like this, that would be tough!"

Dramatic Day As Only Six Remain At Premier League Pool

Francisco Sanchez Ruiz has gone top of the Premier League Pool table going into the last day of play as four more exited pool's most unique competition at the Morningside Arena, Leicester, England live on Matchroom.Live, Viaplay and networks worldwide.

League Table / Schedule

Sanchez Ruiz has lingered towards the top end of the table all week but finally took solo top spot going into the final day after an afternoon session that saw the Nineball World No. 1 dismantle Naoyuki Oi and Konrad Juszczyszyn before a clash with Sanjin Pehlivanovic in a battle of the leading pair. Pehlivanovic struggled and laboured after a whitewash loss to Oi and it continued as Sanchez Ruiz came good 5-3 to ensure top spot overnight. With defeat, Pehlivanovic stands two points behind Sanchez Ruiz as the latter overcame Albin Ouschan in the final match of the day in a hill hill finish. It was Sanchez Ruiz's eighth win in nine matches.

Jayson Shaw has played more racks than anyone else (191) and he will be happy with his return from that sitting right in the mix in third place. The Brit has rallied all week and beat Alex Pagulayan early doors and Ouschan to ensure a top six finish whatever played out in the evening. Oi meanwhile wrapped up his top six berth with points against Wu Kun Lin and Pehlivanovic. Pagulayan got it done but was made to wait for other results to make sure of his spot, the Canadian didn't have the rub of the green with three defeats from four today but his work was already done.

The drama came in the battle to sneak in the top six with only defending champion ruled out of pushing inside the bubble. Oi booked his place first with a 5-3 win over Wu, with the latter needing a win to keep faint hopes alive of making the final day. Skyler Woodward was hanging in the picture all day after a phenomenal day yesterday brought him close to the target and he continued on his way in the afternoon and evening with wins over Wu, Jayson Shaw, and Alex Pagulayan but it still proved to not be enough. The Blue Grass Bad Ass needed to beat Juszczyszyn to guarantee it but a 5-4 loss would've kept him in the fold pending on the result of Ouschan vs Juszczyszyn. Woodward was 4-0 down to Juszczyszyn but clawed it back to 4-3 only for it to be too little too late

Elsewhere, the Juszczyszyn/Woodward result meant Wu could steal the final spot if it wasn't for coming up against an imperious Shane Van Boening who was already out the picture by the time they met. Wu needed a win to stand a chance if Juszczyszyn was to lose against Ouschan. In truth, he was never in the contest though as Van Boening found stroke in the final knockings to lock up an 8th placed finish overall and leave Wu and Ouschan behind him in the table.

24 matches and 20 hours of Pool live daily from 11 am UK time tomorrow morning on Matchroom.Live, Viaplay, and networks worldwide. Full broadcaster list available below. Coverage can also be found on the Matchroom Pool and Multi Sport YouTube channels in selected countries.

The 16-player league format invitational sees the world’s best pitted against each other over the opening five days to vie for position in the top ten. After five days, the bottom six are eliminated with the remaining 10 players facing off again across days six and seven before four more players exit. The remaining six then play each other once more on the final day before the top four content the playoffs. All league matches are Race to 5 with the alternate break in action.

Pehlivanovic, Sanchez Ruiz, Shaw And Pagulayan Hold Court At Premier League Pool

Sanjin Pehlivanovic continues to lead the way at Premier League Pool by one point going into the day seven of play at the Morningside Arena, Leicester live on Matchroom.Live, Viaplay and broadcasters worldwide.

League Table / Schedule

Pehlivanovic now has 15 wins to his name and finished the day in impressive fashion with a 5-4 win over two-time Mosconi Cup MVP Jayson Shaw who was 4-0 up. It came off the back of two 5-4 losses so roles reversed as he kept on top of proceedings. Shaw will begrudge that defeat but still stands in great stead to make the final day after victories over Shane Van Boening, Naoyuki Oi, and Wu Kun Lin. The Brit holds all the cards with fate in his hands with a spot in the top four as it stands.

Konrad Juszczyszyn led after day one but had a wobble midweek only to recover to ensure a spot in the weekend action. The Pole defeated Oi and Shaw in quick succession by the same scoreline 5-2 before missing out hill-hill against Pagulayan to see the Canadian leapfrog him into top four. Pagulayan was on the end of a bruising 5-0 defeat to Van Boening late on but his day began with a win over Albin Ouschan 5-2 before a defeat at the hands of Francisco Sanchez Ruiz. Sanchez Ruiz remains in the top four after three wins from four with back-to-back evening points against Van Boening, and Wu Kun Lin.

At the end of play tomorrow, only six will remain in the competition. As it stands, Van Boening, Ouschan, Woodward, and Wu will miss out with the latter closest to the breakaway pack in the top six. Van Boening struggled for any rhythm and trails Oi who occupies the final top six spot by three points. Defending champion Ouschan meanwhile is three points off the bubble also coming after Woodward finished the day with a point against Sanchez Ruiz.

Pehlivanovic will begin Table 1 coverage tomorrow with a doubleheader against Woodward and Pagulayan respectively before Shaw will meet Pagulayan. Table 2 begins with Ouschan against Oi live on the Matchroom Multi Sport YouTube channel.

Pehlivanović Keeps Hold Of Top Spot At Premier League Pool

Sanjin Pehlivanovic remains top of the Premier League Pool table after five days of action in Leicester with the bottom six now eliminated from the tournament ahead of the final three days live on Viaplay, Matchroom.Live and networks worldwide.

League Table / Schedule

Pehlivanovic holds a two-point advantage over Naoyuki Oi after only losing two matches so far. The Bosnian has had a week to remember so far and looks in a strong place to make Monday's final day even with two days to go until then, that's after a brilliant fifth day that saw Pehlivanovic get the better of Shane Van Boening, Jayson Shaw, and Earl Strickland.

Oi goes into the day as the closest to Pehlivanovic with 11 points to his name with another solid day for the final wild card pick. Chou Chieh Yu put up a fight against Oi but came up short before Chris Melling faced the wrath of Sushi Boom who was on a roll to bag another win and put Melling in the drop zone.

Shaw struggled for a win on day five but he remains inside the top four going into the weekend action whilst Francisco Sanchez Ruiz also holds a strong position in third spot two points behind Pehlivanovic and one behind Oi. Konrad Jusczyszyn had a wobble midweek but recovered yesterday and today to move into the weekend whilst Wu Kun Lin's abysmal opening day proved not to be detrimental as he progressed. Van Boening meanwhile will know he needs to find an improvement in his game if he is to make the final six on Monday.

As mentioned previous, Melling's fate was all but sealed after defeat to Oi but there was still a chance if Skyler Woodward fell at the hands of Strickland but that didn't pan out as the former triumphed 5-2. Woodward progressed with another win, this time over Alex Pagulayan 5-3. The win saw Woodward tie up the ninth spot going into the sixth day. Strickland's tournament meanwhile ended with a 5-1 defeat to the ever-impressive Seo Seoa of South Korea who gave a superb account of herself.

SVB Junior Open winner Khalid Alghamdi got things going late on but it wasn't enough for him to progress whilst Chou's late flurry of wins proved to be too little too late all be it, a memorable week that included victory over Albin Ouschan. Ouschan booked his place in the top six with a win over Sanchez Ruiz 5-4 after an earlier 5-1 defeat to Wu. Luong Duc Thien got things going but again it was too late for him, the Vietnamise rising star came good against Shaw 5-3.

Premier League Pool heats up ahead of first cut on Friday

Jayson Shaw and Sanjin Pehlivanović are tied at the top of the Premier League Pool table after four days of action at the Morningside Arena in Leicester, England live on Matchroom.Live, Viaplay, and networks worldwide.

League Table / Schedule

Shaw has played with a freedom that many crave to see and the Eagle Eye goes into the fifth-day level at the top thanks to wins over Konrad Juszczyszyn and Earl Strickland by the same scoreline of 5-2. Pehlivanović came into day four undefeated in nine but that momentum was halted by Alex Pagulayan looking to rekindle some of his early week form in a 5-4 win. From there, Pehlivanović did hit back in imperious fashion with Naoyuki Oi dispatched 5-1 and Chris Melling 5-4 when it had looked like the Brit would pull through.

Skyler Woodward has struggled for any form of rhythm but the two-time Mosconi Cup MVP finally struck a run together with three wins across the two sessions firstly against Seo Seoa before whitewashing Khalid Alghamdi and sidestepping past Luong Duc Thien 5-2. The three wins seeing Woodward leapfrog inside the all-important top ten that would see the American make the weekend action. Woodward's two compatriots meanwhile do have work to be done with Strickland outside the cutline whilst Shane Van Boening tasted defeat to Sanchez Ruiz and Chou Chieh Yu. Van Boening is tucked inside ninth with Wu Kun Lin trailing in 10th.

Pagulayan ensured a top-four spot going into day five after a dramatic 5-4 win over Francisco Sanchez Ruiz to conclude the day, the second hill hill win of the day for the Canadian.

Chou's win saw her lift off the bottom spot of the table with hopes of making the weekend still alive. Day one leader Juszczyszyn had a confidence booster after securing a point against Ouschan and it proved to be a great springboard with a whitewash win against Wu. Defeat against Shaw couldn't hamper Juszczyszyn's spirits though who looks well placed to make the final six.

By the end of tomorrow, all players will have played each other once with the bottom six in the group eliminated. The top ten will then play each other again over Saturday and Sunday to make Monday's final day where six will remain.

Sanjin Pehlivanovic remains on top at Premier League Pool after Day 3

Sanjin Pehlivanović remains on top of the Premier League Pool table by one point after the third day thanks to three wins from three for the Bosnian star at the Morningside Arena, Leicester, England live on Matchroom.Live, Viaplay, and networks worldwide.

League Table / Schedule

Pehlivanović took control late in the morning session with a 5-1 win over Wu Kun Lin followed by a 5-3 triumph over Seo Seoa and 5-2 over Luong Duc Thien. The youngster has quietly gone about his business so far this week and now sees a one-point buffer over Jayson Shaw and Naoyuki going into the fourth day of the first stage of the tournament.

Shaw got the better of Wu, Skyler Woodward, and Francisco Sanchez Ruiz to keep pace with Pehlivanovic. Sanchez Ruiz compounded a miserable 24 hours for Konrad Juszczyszyn with a 5-1 win to open the day before victory over Luong Duc Thien saw the Nineball world number one reach the top of the league table but it was short-lived due to Pehlivanovic's run. Juszczyszyn started out on top after day one but had a horrible day two, things did get better after a win against Alex Pagulayan kept him in touch with the top of the group.

Oi was one of the final wild cards confirmed and he's made the most of it so far with a superb 5-4 win over Shane Van Boening to finish the day that brought him above Shaw on rack difference despite being level on points. The Japanese star also saw off Khalid Alghamdi 5-2 for the perfect day.

Woodward has a mountain to climb to make the weekend with the Mosconi Cup star cut adrift alongside Earl Strickland and Luong on three points. Seoa had a day to remember despite being two points off the top ten as she dispatched two-time world champion Albin Ouschan 5-3. The Korean led her opponent 4-1 before seeing out victory when the tide seemed to be turning the other way.

Oi will begin Table 1 coverage tomorrow with a double header against Pagulayan and Wu respectively before it's the battle of Chou Chieh Yu and Seoa. Table 2 begins with Melling against Luong Duc Thien live on the Matchroom Multi Sport YouTube channel.

The 16-player league format invitational sees the world’s best pitted against each other over the opening five days to vie for position in the top ten. Oi and Pehlivanović hit top of Premier League Pool table on Day 2

Naoyuki Oi and Sanjin Pehlivanović lead the Premier League Pool table after day two of action at the Morningside Arena, Leicester, England with five wins from six including ending defending champion’s Albin Ouschan unbeaten run.

League Table / Schedule

Oi took out Jayson Shaw early on before getting the better of Seo Seoa to be in a strong position going into the evening action. The Japanese star then stepped up to end Ouschan’s unbeaten start in an impressive 5-2 showing that left the Austrian frozen for most parts. Pehlivanović meanwhile was made to wait for action until later on firstly coming from 4-1 down to beat Poland’s Konrad Juszczyszyn then wins over Ouschan and Khalid Alghamdi 5-1 and 5-2 respectively to edge Oi out on top by rack difference.

Alex Pagulayan kept on the road towards the weekend playoffs with a win over Earl Strickland and Chou Chieh Yu only to see his unbeaten record finished at the hands of Chris Melling who has grown into the tournament. Melling also found a groove in a sensational matchup with Shane Van Boening in one of the highlights of the tournament so far thanks to some supreme safety and kicking in a 5-3 win over the South Dakota Kid.

Van Boening delivered against Skyler Woodward in the final action of the day in a battle of the two USA aces 5-3. That result could prove vital for Van Boening who currently sits just inside the top ten whilst Woodward is a point adrift off it in 12th with just two wins from six games. Elsewhere, Juszczyszyn fell from the top of the league after an early win over Melling due to defeats at the hands of Strickland and Pehlivanović.

24 matches and 20 hours of Pool live daily from 11 am UK time tomorrow morning on Matchroom.Live, Viaplay, and networks worldwide. Full broadcaster list is available below. Coverage can also be found on the Matchroom Pool and Multi Sport YouTube channels in selected countries.

Poland's Konrad Jusczyszyn sits top of the 2023 Premier League Pool table after day one of play at the Morningside Arena, Leicester with three wins from three alongside the likes of Albin Ouschan and Jayson Shaw live on Matchroom.Live, Viaplay, and networks worldwide.

League Table / Schedule

Jusczyszyn came out firing on all cylinders to drop only four racks overall on day one thanks to a 5-0 win against Vietnam's Luong Duc Thien and then an impressive 5-1 dismantling of two-time Mosconi Cup MVP Skyler Woodward to go two from two before wrapping up the day in style over an unbeaten Naoyuki Oi 5-3. Shaw sits just behind Jusczyszyn on rack difference with the Brit getting the better of close friend Chris Melling 5-4 before a 5-0 win over South Korea's Seo Seoa. A clash with Mosconi Cup foe Shane Van Boening put Eagle Eye on the upward trajectory going into day two of play with a comprehensive 5-2 win.

Despite defeat against Shaw, Van Boening has two points from a possible three thanks to wins over Wu Kin Lin and SVB Junior Open champion Khalid Alghamdi 5-4 on both occasions. Woodward avoided repeating his fate of 12 months ago where he failed to win a match on the opening day with victory over Sanjin Pehlivanovic to ensure at least one point in the league standings after three matches.

Defending champion Ouschan began the tournament against the enigmatic Earl Strickland with the American great pushing the Nineball world number four all the way to the final rack in a thriller to open action on table one. Newly crowned world champion Francisco Sanchez Ruiz got off the mark with an opening win over Strickland before being made to sweat by Chinese Taipei's Chou Chieh Yu before eventually finding a slice of luck in a hill-hill finish to seal the victory and go two from two. Pehlivanovic put one blemish on Sanchez Ruiz's card though after coming from behind in a 5-4 win.

Wu Kin Lin will begin Table 1 coverage tomorrow against Luong before Shaw faces a doubleheader against Oi and Chou. Table 2 begins with Jusczyszyn up against Mellling before the Pole meets with Seoa.

Fans can also get betting odds on various bookmakers globally including match and outright odds. At the start of play today, UK bookmakers priced Jusczyszyn at 20/1 to win the tournament whilst Sanchez Ruiz and Van Boening was priced as favourites at 7/2. The 16-player league format invitational sees the world's best pitted against each other over the opening five days to vie for position in the top ten. After five days, the bottom six are eliminated with the remaining 10 players facing off again across days six and seven before four more players exit. The remaining six then play each other once more on the final day before the top four content the playoffs. All league matches are Race to 5 with the alternate break in action.
