This event saw the 2nd running of our new triple elimination format, which guarantees all players at least 3 matches for their entry fee, and also to play for a guaranteed prize pot of £700.
The early stages through up some good clashes. A close encounter between Tony Southern and Danny Luton, which saw Southern take a 7-5 victory.
Other early action saw Roy Kimberley beat Darren Taylor 7-1, after Taylor had beaten Jon Bates 7-1, Dave Beaumont beat Frankie Gillen 7-2, and Dan Lee beat Gary Swift 7-4.
Among the heavyweights in the winners qualifiers “the Sandman” Kimberley went to hill-hill v Southern, Kimberley coming through 7-6. Daniel Lee beat Dave Beaumont 7-4.
On the losers’ side, later stages, Swift beat Gillen 6-2, but lost 6-3 to Southern, Luton beat Taylor 6-5, but was then beaten 6-3 by Beaumont.
In the 5th/6th playoff, Swift beat Luton 6-5 in a close game.
In the 3rd loss side (Challenge event) final, Gillen beat Taylor 5-3.
The semi-final draw for the main event took place early the next morning, and we were back underway. Lee inflicted a heavy 7-3 defeat on Southern and Kimberley did similar to Beaumont 7-2.
It was to be Lee and Kimberley who would again meet in the final.
The match started out even, and was level at 3-3, before with Lee went up a gear to win 7-3. This win put Lee back to the top of the rankings.
