Wildman Ends His Tournament Winning Drought At T9B The Switch Event

Total9ball yesterday held a small last minute event at High Wycombe Hurricane Room. The competition was run using the 2x format with each player being drawn in both halves of the draw, one side was 9ball and the other 10ball. Unfortunately being a last minute event there were only 10 entries, however it was still to be an action packed event with loads of competitive pool for the players who attended.

The Switch tournament kicked off with two prelim matches in both sides of the draw. Phil Wildman kicked off with a match against Richard Fullwell. Richard is one of the local talents based at the Hurricane Room in High Wycombe, Richard started the match on +1 handicap to 7 while Phil began on -3. The first 6 racks were shared therefore by the time Phil reached 0 Richard was only 3 racks away from the win. Wildman's break was working really well and this played a major part in the comeback, Wildman ran out a 7v5 winner and advanced to the final 8 of the 9ball side. Mark Parker's day began with a solid 7v4 victory over Lionel Brown. Mark really is playing some great pool at the moment and is becoming harder and harder to beat with each confidence boosting result he gains.

Moving over to the 10ball prelims, Tony Phillips returned to the pool world last month after several years away and one thing is for sure... He has the bug again. Tony�s event started with a solid 7v3 win over Mark Hughes. While on the table next door Russell �The Cue Action� Thomas defeated Ciprain Dandu 7v5.

After the first round of matches were complete it was time for the Winner Takes All one rack deadly shootout. This event's entry fee was included in the main entry fee. The Winner's prize was �25 - not bad for winning just 3 racks. Mark Parker defeated a back-in-form Chris Buckmaster in the Final to collect the cash.

After this round Chris Buckmaster and Phil Wildman were the only two players remaining with the double chance winning opportunity and they could meet each other in both Semi-Finals - but would this happen?

Wildman continued his winning ways ending Mark Hughes tournament in the process 7v2. Phil then made the switch back to the 10ball half of the draw but was defeated by a classy and at times lucky performance by Mark Parker the scoreline ended 7v5. Chris Buckmaster was cruising, crushing any player that got in his way. Chris booked himself a double Semi-Final place by defeating Ciprain Dandu 7v4 in the 9ball and Russell Thomas 7v3 in the 10ball. Chris was now just two wins away from winning �250 - not bad prize money for a 10 player event.

So the Semi Finals were upon us and Chris Buckmaster was involved in both, first up Mark Parker at 10ball, Chris began this match -1 rack and Mark made full use of the handicap making few mistakes and taking out his chances winning 7v4. How would Chris responded to his first defeat of the day? Would Chris get a chance of revenge against Mark in the Final? Phil Wildman was stood in-between Chris and a Final spot. Phil having had a break before the match trailed 2v0 before reeling off the next 7 racks to win 7v2 and join Mark Parker in the Final.

In the Final Mark won the lag and selected the discipline as 10ball. Phil and Mark agreed to split the prize money and play a race to 3 for the tournament win. The match ended 3v2 in favour of the T9B founder Phil Wildman. This was Phil's fifth T9B tournament victory but his first for over a year!

This event showed that even when we are short on numbers we can still produce an excellent fun-filled tournament. Thanks go to Hurricane Room for as always playing guest hosts, to Nicole for another smooth well run tournament, to Dave Knight for taking some awesome action snaps and to the players who competed in this event.
