Dynamic Billiards Youth European Championship has come to an end

Friday, 03 August 2012: In the final matches of the Team competition, Germany took the Gold Medal in the junior’s division while Poland took the Gold in the pupil’s division.

The German juniors were never really in danger against their Russian opponents. Finn Eschment (GER) won the straight pool over Andrey Seroshtan (RUS) with 100:-1. While Vladislav Zaborovskii (RUS) was leading 6:5 in 8-ball over Jan-Henrik Wolf (GER), Tobias Bongers (GER) won the 9- ball match with 8:4 over Vitaly Pavlukhin (RUS). That brought Team Germany their 5th Gold Medal for these Championships.

In the pupil’s division, Team Poland was victorious over Team Germany. The straight pool match went to Germany; Joshua Filler (GER) won 75:47 over Mikolaj Zabecki (POL). But Filler’s teammates were not able to bring their matches home. Can Salim-Giasar (GER) lost 5:7 to Patryk Statkiewicz (POL) in 9-ball while Pawel Kaczmarek (POL) took the 8-ball over David Vu (GER) with 6:4.

That concludes the coverage of the Dynamic Billiards Youth European Championships2012. The Senior’s and Ladies event will begin on Sunday, August 5th, with more exciting pool action to come.

Norway over Croatia

Pure excitement in team matches at Dynamic Billiards Youth European Championships

Thursday, 02 August 2012: In a thrilling encounter up to the last minute, Team Norway eliminated Team Croatia from the junior’s team event.

Norway’s Even Letnes Waernes scooped the first point for his team, defeating Filip Bermanec (CRO) with 8:6 in 9-ball. However, the other two matches were both tight and fiercely fought over.

Croatia’s Roberto Bartol snatched the point in 8-ball away from Audun Risan Heimsjoe (NOR) by a hair with 7:6 though he had been trailing by two rack with 4:6 before. That point tied the team match.

The straight pool had to decide again. Mikael Oegaard (NOR) and Borna Vukojevic (CRO) also had a close match. They played a lot of safety shots in the final stage of the match. Oegaard had the better nerves and pocketed the final ball, winning the straight pool 100:88. That was the victory and the semi-final match for Team Norway. They will meet Team Russia in the semi-final tomorrow. The other semi-final in the junior’s will be played between Team Germany and Team Poland.

In the pupil’s division, Team Poland won over Team Netherlands with 2:1. They will meet Team Russia tomorrow while Team Germany will have to deal with Team Norway.

The event is hosted by the European Governing Body for Pool, the European Pocket Billiard Federation (EPBF) and organized by International Billiard Promotion (IBP). 9-ball competition down to quarter-finals

Andrey Seroshtan (RUS)     Foto: EPBF/DK

Day 7 will continue with Team matches

Thursday, 02 August 2012: At the Dynamic Billiards European Youth Championships in the Stahlpalast in Brandenburg a. d. Havel, Germany, the 9-ball individuals are down to the last 8 players standing in all three divisions.

One last 16 encounter was the match between Andrey Seroshtan (RUS) and Even Letnes Waernes (NOR). Seroshtan had the better start and took a 4:1 and 5:2 lead over Waernes. But then he seemed to lose it. Waernes got closer and closer and even overtook Seroshtan, taking a 6:5 lead. That might have been the wake-up call for Seroshtan. He renewed his concentration and went on the hill, turning the score 7:6 in his favour again. But Waernes did not want to let him go and took another rack, creating an incredible tension in the match at 7:7. Then, Waernes broke the 15th rack. He executed an almost perfect break; all balls were nicely spread out with the cue ball in the center of the table. But a coloured ball kicked the cue ball in the side pocket! Tough luck for Waernes!

Seroshtan had ball in hand and ran the rack, winning the match with 8:7.

Other notable results of that round include Jesse Kivela (FIN) remaining victorious over Wojciech Szewczyk (POL) with 8:7. Marcel Fortunski (POL) hammered Finn Eschment (GER) with 8:1. David Vu (GER), silver medallist in the 8-ball pupil’s division this year, fell to the sharp blade of Andreas Madsen (DEN) with 4:7. Can Salim-Giasar (GER) defeated Sergey Lutsker (RUS) very close with 7:6. That was Salim-Giasar’s second 7:6 victory in a row. Daniel Maciol (POL) whitewashed Bohdan Ivanec (CZE) with 7:0.

Matches today will continue with Team competition rounds, starting at 17:00 CET.

Kivela ousts Pereira

Single elimination stage in 9-ball claims the first victims

Thursday, 02 August 2012: Jesse Kivela (FIN) terminates the hopes of Hugo Pereira (LUX) for another round in 9-ball with 8:5.

That match saw a classical turn of the tide. It started out in Pereira’s favour. The player from Luxembourg played not necessarily better than Kivela, but he had the balls roll in his favour. Out of the first 5 racks, Kivela was only able to win one so the score went to 4:1 in favour of Pereira. He was half way through already when Kivela started to get momentum. Rack after rack, the performance of Kivela increased and he was able to tie the match at 5:5. Pereira saw his hopes dashed and struggled to stay in the match. However, Kivela did not admit that and forced his match on Pereira, continuing to take point after point in his account. In the end, Kivela won the match with 8:5 and proceeds to the round of the last 16 players in junior’s 9-ball individuals.

Other notable results from this morning include Michael Schneider (SUI) defeating newly crowned straight pool European Champion Raphael Wahl (GER) with 7:3 in the pupil’s winner’s qualification round. Can Salim-Giasar (GER) won a breath-taking thriller against Patryk Statkiewicz (POL) with 7:6. Daniel Maciol (POL) had the same result for his victory over Maksim Dudanets (RUS).

The event is hosted by the European Governing Body for Pool, the European Pocket Billiard Federation (EPBF) and organized by International Billiard Promotion (IBP).
