Jayson Shaw (SCO) defeated David Alcaide (ESP) in the round of the last 32 with 8:5.
It was amazing to see how equally strong two players can play. Both of them showed high class pool and made only few to no mistakes in the beginning of the match. However, when the score was 5:5, Shaw as well as Alcaide seemed to play a bit too careless. Safety shots were executed worse than normal and it was Jayson Shaw who accepted the gift, taking a 6:5 lead over Alcaide. In the 12th rack, Alcaide missed an easy 1-ball and was punished twice since the cue ball scratched in the side pocket. Shaw ran that rack and also the next one with his own break to win the match with 8:5. In the next round Jayson Shaw will face Philipp Stojanovic (CRO) who eliminated Mark Gray (GBR) from the event with 8:5.

EPBF Euro Tour Hungary Open - Down to Last 32 Players
Click the image to view the larger photograph - use "back" to return here. Chris Melling - Great Britain In an epic thriller, Melling ousted Petroni to secure a spot in the single elimination!
Chris Melling (GBR) ousted Fabio Petroni (ITA) in an epic thriller with 8:7.
The match started off to Melling’s liking. He was ahead 4:0 after about 10 minutes. Knowing Melling, this is not unusual. But Petroni did not think about giving in. “I was surprised when he fought back and got me under a lot of pressure”, said Melling. Petroni performed a strong comeback and tied the score at 4:4. Then Melling ran another rack with his own break and benefitted from Petroni breaking dry, taking a 6:4 lead again. Once more, Petroni was down two racks and once more he did not give in but fought back. He profited from Melling who found himself unluckily snookered after he pocketed a tough jump shot. Running that rack and another one, Petroni tied the match at 6:6. He was almost on his way to the hill when the cue ball scratched into the side pocket from an almost unbelievable angle. Lady Luck was on Melling’s side this time. So Melling was on the hill first. But needless to say that Petroni again did not give in and tied the match at 7:7. Then, after a few safety shots were exchanged, Melling found himself in the better position and ran the rack, winning the thriller with 8:7. “Believe it or not, I have just played with a new shaft that I have never ever played before. But Ralf (Souquet) told me the tip was great. I thought if it works for him, it could work for me, too”, said Melling after the match. “Fabio played great pool and kept me under pressure constantly. He was very hard to beat tonight”, Melling stated and left the venue, preparing for his next round match.
In the meantime, unfortunately, all local players have exited the event. The last Hungarian hopes Miko, Solymosi and Varga were all eliminated in the 4th loser’s round.
The following players will play tonight at 21:00 local time in the single elimination stage of the event:

EPBF Euro Tour Hungary Open - Chamat beats Giallourakis
Marcus Chamat - Sweden “Napoleon” sails smoothly into the round of last 32 players
In a pretty one-sided match of the winner’s qualification round, “Napoleon” Marcus Chamat (SWE) crushed Damianos Giallourakis (GER) with 8:2.
Having observed the performance of the Greek players at the Dynamic Euro-Tour here in Hotel Eger & Park in Eger, Hungary, the match between Chamat and Giallourakis promised to be exciting and close. But it was far from that. From the very beginning, Chamat took the lead and never in the whole match had Giallourakis seemed to be ready to fight back. He touched bottom in the 4th rack when he missed three makeable shots in a row. “I think he was too nervous”, stated Chamat after the match. “He made so many mistakes that made it easy for me to win this match”. When the scoreboard showed 5:0 for Chamat, Giallourakis started showing a bit of good pool and ran two racks. But that was by far not enough. Chamat had his nerves together and finished the match, winning with 8:2 over Giallourakis. “Maybe the pressure was too much for him”, stated Chamat, “he must have played better in earlier rounds to get to this stage”.
Other notable results from the loser’s side include Balasz Miko (HUN) defeating Dominic Zajac (POL) 8:5. Bence Varga (HUN) keeps more Hungarian hopes alive as he crushes his fellow countryman Laszlo Agics with 8:4. Daryl Peach (GBR) kicked Raj Hundal (IND) out of the tournament with 8:6. That must have hurt “The Hitman” Hundal since it is his birthday today… In the winner’s bracket, Andreas Roschkowsky (GER) handed a doughnut to Miroslav Kremenovic (SRB), winning 8:0. The only British player who lost his match in the winner’s qualification round was Chris Melling who got defeated by Denis Grabe (EST) with 8:6. Majid won 8:3 over Malai (ALB); Boyes won 8:6 over Stojanovic (CRO); Jones just remained victorious over Buck (GER) with 8;7; Appleton clearly taught Albin Ouschan (AUT) a lesson, creaming him 8:1; finally, Mark Gray send Ivica Putnik (CRO) to the left side of the draw with 8:5.
EPBF Euro Tour Hungary Open - Exposito kicks Reimering out!
Juan Carlos Exposito - Spain Tough matchups in the one-loss side
In an exciting encounter, Juan Carlos Exposito (ESP) defeated Christian Reimering (GER) with 8:6.
It looked like Reimering was completely beside himself in the early part of the match. Nothing seemed to go in is favour and Exposito took a clear advantage from that, taking a 5:0 lead after 30 minutes. Then Reimering suddenly got some momentum. He played what he is expected of and closed that gap a bit, making the score 6:4 in favour of Exposito. Then the Spaniard went on the hill. Reimering managed to snatch another rack from him, but in the 13th rack everything looked like a sure victory for Exposito. However, sometimes things do not happen as you want them to. Exposito dogged a makeable 10-ball, giving a second life to Reimering at 7:6. It was Reimering’s break coming up. He did not find an easy layout and finally, Exposito was able to win the deciding rack, winning the match with 8:6 and eliminating Reimering from the Dynamic Euro-Tour 10-ball Hungary Open. Reimering now will have to wait until Sunday when the Beassy™ 9-ball World Class tournament starts.
Other notable results include Dominic Jentsch (GER) winning with 8:4 over Dutch hope Iva Aarts. Oliver Ortmann (GER), who had to suffer a bad first round smackdown, won his match on the loser’s side clearly with 8:1 over Steve Leisen (LUX). Leisen tried to battle Ortmann with good safeties in the beginning of the match but Ortmann showed all his class after a while and left no chance for Leisen. Henrik Larsson, wheelchair player from Sweden, ended Christian Franke’s (GER) hopes and won his match with 8:6. In an all-Russian clash, Ruslan Chinakhov eliminated Konstantin Stepanov with 8:4.
