The CPS would never have got a conviction if they'd pressed ahead with that nonsense of a charge. I mean if it were me I'd say that availability of an unsecured network indicated someone was happy to share it for free so how can I possibly be charged for avoiding payment! I can see what you are saying Riggers but these two must have admitted the offence and there must have been sufficient evidence to charge or else a caution would not have been administered. A caution is classed as a conviction in terms of a persons previous so its fairly serious, it avoids court but still is a criminal disposal. I have a feeling that these people have probably not just connected once or twice its likely to have been very heavy usage and probably used up someones inclusive allowance. -----------------  [ This message was edited by: PC on 2007-04-18 09:32 ]

Who hasn't "borrowed" a connection with their laptop at some time? I think this must've been some sort of nuisance prosecution! I'd hate to see this escalate - ruins the free-spirit of the Internet a bit.

I agree with you BigDave but the problem is that if inclusive allowance is used then that would be classed as "intent to permanently deprive" and like my previous post i'm guessing that if say someone had a 20gb allowance then the other party might have used quite a large amount of it. The other issue could be what sites the person "borrowing" the wifi is using. I'm not a pc expert but i presume if someones borrows your wifi then when the ip address is checked if say used on a child porn site it would come back to the innocent party? -----------------

Perhaps that's what these two were up to, but it's nice to travel somewhere and find that you can use a "free" network for a little scoreboard updating or a quick email! It's a shame because they're delivering routers now that NEED to be passworded, whereas before they were delivered preset without needing a password!

as PC said i dont think this is sending a quick email i dont use the internet for anything except emails and writing rubbish on here but i understand you can download things on it !!!
but if someone sat outside my shop all day id password it or can these be cracked now ???
