6 months practice and win majors is a very bold statement, theres a lot more to American Pool than potting balls.......are you saying that with 6 months practice, Usain Bolt can win the 10,000 Metres title, after all, its still a running event??

Ok, if that's the case then let me ask you a simple question... When is the last time you played on a 9ft table and ran 10 racks of 9ball or 250 balls in straight pool without missing on an American table with 5" pockets?

It'd be a fairly safe bet that you and most players, (except for maybe a few of the top 9Ball Pros in the UK) have never done it.

Snooker players would rather make American Pool more like snooker because they simply can't stand getting their asses handed to 'em at 9Ball by pool players.

In other words, typical selfish arrogant eliteist snooker players showing their greedy self interest by wanting to change the equipment of another cuesport to suit themselves.

If you can't handle getting beat by pool players, then go back to boring Snooze Cruise.

i believe guys such as ronnie, hendry , robertson, selby etc could have a solid 6 month practice at 9 ball and compete at the top, but suppose we will never know cos they wont waste their time with it unless they do it as a hobby after their snooker careers have finished like drago did.

Not at all Syko :) lol I'm just telling it like it is buddy, I find it hilarious that snooze cruise players think they're the best players in the world, but still can't handle getting their asses handed to 'em at 9Ball by pool players :-D

Sorry Gaz, but Ronnie already had a crack at the American Pool on IPT before it went hooters up and he failed miserably because he simply didn't have the ability to adapt his overall game to play top level American Pool, which was playing US 8Ball on wool barbox cloth, (Similar to napped snooze cruise cloth).

The top snooze players would need to practice American Pool for at least a solid 18 monts - 2 years to really be competitive at a top pro 9ball, but even they would still struggle to win a major tournament because there are simply alot of top class pool players throughout the world.

Willie, this is how I see it.

I think that is very possible a pro snooker player could have very little practise at 9ball and win a 9ball tournament, even an established one.

However, would a pro snooker player consistently win 9ball tournaments with little practise - no.

On the flip side - could a top 9ball pro ( excluding ex pro snooker players etc ) win an established snooker tournament - absolutely not.

In snooker, there is very little margin for error, and on a tv style table, almost no margin for error. Accuracy, technique and concentration on almost every shot.

With 9ball, there is a massive margin for error, where as almost anything goes Technique and rule-book cue actions don't really make that much of a difference.

9ball = massive pockets, cut wide

Snooker = very tight pockets, cut sharp

I know they are two completely different games, but there is absolutely no doubt ( imo ) that snooker is the harder game, by a country mile. There is also absolutely no doubt in my mind that the greatest cueists in the world, bar none are top professional snooker players :)

Just my opinion, right or wrong ;-)

I don't think snooze criuse is a harder game :), it's a percentage game on a larger table and different rules :)

The pockets on an American table aren't that big, when so many players think that because the pockets are bigger that they can't miss and quite alot of people have found out for themselves that is definitely not the case :)

If a pro 9Ball player isn't capable of winning at snooker then what about Efren?... he has claimed a few big scalps playing for a few £K at snooker and winning each time, and if memory serves me right, I believe Efren and a few other Asian 9Ball players have won snooker tournaments in their respective countries :)

Any player can be capable of competeing at top level of any cuesport if they enjoy playing it, are willing to practice it and learn how to play it right :)

 Hendry is not the worlds best cueist, never was and never will be :)

The only cueing up that Big Foot & the Hendrysons should be doing lining up the parking space for his armchair in the retirement paddock, along with the rest of the old nags  :-D :-P

a lot of frames and matches are lost or won on decision making not just cueing so it is an hard question, all top snooker players cue brilliant and its hard to say who cues best.
i think this debate is turning into which is more skilful snooker or 9 ball, in my opinion its snooker

You're living in a dream world!
The cueing for snooker is only good/correct for snooker.
The different styles of cueing for pool is because of the spin needed.
A snooker style does not suit this!
What you believe to be good cueing actually isn't for pool!

Jon, you're right on the bankroll good sir :-D

The late Alex Higgins, (May he RIP) was a great snooze player and his 2 world title wins back that up, but he didn't have the same cueing action as most snooze players had then or have nowadays, in fact he often snatched at alot of shots when shooting with alot of power... and to alot of players he didn't have the 'text book' cueing action they have/had, but that's what worked for him.

It's the same for Pool players, our individual shooting styles and fundamentals, are different because it's what works for American Pool, and the same principle goes for 3C or Russian Billiards players :)

There never ever was and never ever will be a player who was or is the "best cueist in history" :-D

Even after all the been spouted on here to justify dodgy cueing, it is still Hendry! The greatest ever to hold a cue... he proved it. Didn't talk the talk, use words like "the most naturaly gifted yadda yadda" etc etc to get round the fact the figures don't stack up. He went out and won everything, beat everyone, and proved it.

of all time - a snooker player for me...........Alex Higgins - unorthadox and probably the worst to pick; so, how did it work?

jc, if you wanna talk about tournament wins or achievements, then Hendry is waaaay down in the pecking order

Allison Fisher - 7x world ladies snooze champion & 3x world ladies 9Ball champion. (More world titles than big foot and the Hendrysons)

Joe Davis, 4x consecutive world english billiards titles, 15x consecutive world snooze titles and the first player to make an officially recorded 147.

Willie Mosconi - 15x world pool champion (Winning a total of 19 challenge matches within the 15 year period and a record exhibition high run of 526 balls without missing.

Willie Hoppe - 51x world carom billiard titles, in 18.1, 18.2 and 3C disciplines.

Alfred DeOro - 17x world pool champion and 10x world 3C champion.

No-one is or will be the best cueist in history.

Willie

How did this topic change from the greatest cueist in history to a debate about snooker vs pool?
