Hi, I'm new to the site.
Just a quick question, what are the players like that go into these tournaments? Is it mostly if you miss they're going to clear up on you a high percentage of the time?
I usually play English 8 Ball but fancy a dabble to 9 Ball, never played in a 9 Ball Tourney before

This will only be the 3rd one of Tony's events that I have entered so I wouldn't take my opinion as chapter & verse but there's a handful of players that will punish any mistake made (from my experience). I would add that in double elim you would be unfortunate to draw 2 top players and for £15 you can't grumble. I think you will enjoy it. Some good 8 ballers make the switch very well.

At the end of the day, what we have is a good group of lads who enjoy having a go at American Pool. Skill levels differ but what we all have in common is passion for the game! It isn't the World 9-Ball Championships but we do have some good players who are capable of break/finish games and solid matches. All in coming from Crewe you're talking about a £40 investment to test the waters and I promise that you'll be welcomed. I probably average 5th or 7th myself and hang about for the full day and we usually have some fun on the free play table anyway!

We'll have a dabble at it, we aren't the best players but hey ho, you aint gonna get better a 9 ball sitting at home.
I used to play 9 ball when i was younger, but then gave up and started 8 ball, now i wanna go back, i just enjoy 9 ball game more

Also, We're not quite to sure on the Rules, but think we've got the Figured, so might just need a heads up when we arrive, like do some many balls have to go past the "headstring"
And basically you have to hit a cushion when your snookered

I played 8-Ball for a few years and while it's certainly accessible (tables in a lot of pubs) it's a bit limiting in my opinion. Through Rileys Liverpool we have 8, 9 and 10 Ball competitions and all are played on the 9 x 4.5 tables. You have more options for what to play with 1 through to 15 than you do with English Pool.

Cool, read the rules, seems pretty straight forward.
Moving over from 8Ball to 9Ball is weird, the balls seems f***ing massive, but i'm getting there, try to get screw back is bit more tougher and your timing is critical for me atm.

I've just got bored of playing 8Ball, played it for 3 Years, got into County, but never really had the passion to carry on playing it. Although i still play it atm, with a local team, but im just playing for a laugh and a joke on Sunday night

"try to get screw back is bit more tougher"
This is normal coming from English Pool. On a 6 x 3 the cue ball is 1/8" smaller than the object ball and thus is lighter also. What this means is that particularly with more powerful strokes a phenomenon often called bounce back is a factor. Basically, the cue ball wants to go back when you strike the middle of the ball! The sheer size and weight of the balls in American Pool take adjustment but you'll be fine in no time. When you have a choice I advise that you send the cue ball forwards for position and avoid the long deep screw at all costs as it's seen as a penalty shot!
