Can someone with a little bit of knowledge please help me, I'm deciding on the specs for my new playing cue & I have most of them sorted but the one thing I'm struggling with is the pin.
My current player is a 3/8x14 pin but I find it a nightmare to put together & take apart because I find it stiff, so for the new player I plan to build I want a quick release joint & this is where your expertise comes in.
Are the quick release & uni-loc joints the same thing or completely different & if so what are the differences between the two?

There are many proprietary quick release versions, McDermott, Viking and Poison each have their own type of quick release joint, as do many others. The UniLoc Joint is the quick release typically found on Predator cues. Different types of quick release joint are not (as a rule) interchangeable. Uni loc as you can buy an extension that fits perfectly in the middle of your cue. Weighs 2 oz and gives 4" extension. Great bit of kit. Plus the quick release saves time.

first off let me say that i build cues, i dont think that your pin is 3/8 x 14, in the pool world the sizes used are 5/16 x 14 or 3/8 x 10, john parris uses 3/8 x 16 which is a standard thread the others are specials, having said all that are you having an ss joint collar, if not then you should be thinking of a 3/8" for the weight that is 3/8 x 10 or 3/8 x 6 which is a radial or surgical pin

Nipper if you read my post again I say that my current player has a 3/8x14 pin & there is only one mass market cue which uses this pin & it is..you guessed it Scorpion cues & if you read my post I Don't want my new player to have this pin type that's why I asked about lock & quick release joints.
I am not having a stainless steel collar as part of my new custom.
