to read some of the latest comments is very disappointing, to come on a public forum and say some of these things about someones personal life is very disrespectful, whether its true or not this is not the place to air those type of views, esp when the guy has not said a word himself apart from he would hope to be in with a chance of playing!!

yes im a mate of his but i am also part of the british pool federation and i aint gona sit back and say nothing, this thread has got way out of hand and i think it should stop right now

this ain't doing British pool any good whatsoever!!!

And good luck to anyone that earns a living from pool, be that through sponsorship or tournaments or a combination of both.

For myself, I am not good enough so I will content myself with working during the day and having a few frames of an evening and entering the odd tournament.

I'd do the latter if there was no prize money.

I have had a good look through this thread and some points I agree with but some I think are very harsh. GB9 and T9B are trying to promote the game we all love in the Uk. I agree that Appleton is a cert as World Number 1. its a shame there is no criteria for the other places. Mark Gray as Uk number 1 imo derserves a place. If not it belittles all the work GB9 puts in and its another reason why 9ball in general doesn't get bigger in this country. Surely one place goes to a player who plays in all the national events and consistantly does well. Otherwise basically if you dont have 20/30k then there is no point in playing 9ball as you can never get anywhere. Anyway thats my opinion I think it will be good for Uk pool and its tours if Gray get the place he derserves. Im sure Matchroom will do the right thing and pick the best of the uk tours to help promote the game.

I agree Phil but just to clarify. Imran is No.1 and Mark is No.2 as this is where they finished at end of last season. Mark is currently provisional No.1.

my comment was just saying that I think the GB9 and Eurotour rankings should mean something and it will help the game in the uk if they did otherwise 9ball may aswell have a World Tour and nothing else.

To be honest I don't agree. I could argue that from the year 2000 until 2007 I was at the top of the British rankings virtually every year, but it didn't get me invited to anything. I didn't didn't argue my case then because I didn't have one!.....and nothing has changed, and it shouldn't.

I mean, if we want our sport to grow we have to take note of other successful sports right?......and none of these take national tours into account for "international" invite events........it's fact that the world cup of pool is one of our best and most prestigious events on the calendar, so why are they gonna take national status over world and European status?.....surely they want players who are making a name for themselves on an international stage, as those players will bring more to the event.
It's common sense.

Correct ..

Matchroom already stated one spot gb9 for masters singles event .. That's fine..

They not giving a spot to gb9 for World Cup and rightly so IMO

But some people got difficulty understanding it seems..

They will hopefully give it to the best 4 guys that earned and deserve it ..

My comments nothing personal just the truth .. Yes maybe time and place richard u and mark of all ppl should know that also ie fb the letter to Chris etc threats to players..

I say what I got to say to u both in person or in private your right public social networks not the time or the place .. So I will hold my hands up and opologize if I upset anybody on here ..

Just for the record am a big fan of gb9 and all the work they do I just stated its more a amatuer tour run professionally .. Obviously I didn't word it too good .. Miss spent youth too many hrs on the tables only good with angles :-)

Interesting, sorry but I don't know who you are......maybe you would like to let us know?

I'm saying that in the past, the GB rankings/events meant nothing towards being picked for INTERNATIONAL invite events be it matchroom events or otherwise....and that it is correct, and should stay like that IMO.

I'm sure that promoters such as matchroom sport want to have players in their events that put themselves about and gain international respect, as this will help towards selling the tournament on TV. You have to remember that they sell their TV tournaments to around 30 countries worldwide, so they want players who have a name on the world stage, not just on a national stage.

That's my opinion, it may seem wrong to some people and correct to others.....but that's how I see it, and how I have come to understand it over the years.

darren slight difference.....chris gobbed off on his wall where god knows how many people see this and about something he knew nothing about, my reply to him was in private

i did most of the donkey work for BPF cos i was the only part-time player on the eurotour at the time so i felt obliged to do it and it was essential to have the federation as then none of us would be allowed to play any events

the BPF has rules to follow which we are trying to do the best we can, but obviously instead of sending a simple message or email some people feel the need to gossip on facebook and give opinions which are bang out of order!!

this has been a great thread, nice to see opinion of the big guns, and they are right, they do not pick the ryder cup team on the basis of how a pro golfer from london, does in events only played in the UK (no matter how professional they are run, , they pick the best players from the world rankings and also the Euro PGA(or whatever its called), same for tennis and Davis cup etc.

For various reasons some GB players who are unreal in their talent, cant take it up full time and tour with the likes of Daz, Karl, Daryl, Chris etc, but that is not the fault of those who can, and they then deserve the picks for the invitation events, but on the other hand, it is good that GB9 have spot for the masters, as if it is repeated it may encourage more and more players to enter, so win-win for all.

Daryl im far from interesting truth be told and ive interrupted putting my socks in matching pairs to reply to you, I happen to watch a lot of pool on tv and occasionally go to events in the uk to watch yourself and others in action and I admire each and every one of you guys, dedicated hard working pros who do deserve invites from all over but I just happen to think mark is just as deserving of a second chance and also think he is more than just a name on our national tour he hs won a couple of euro tours plus some euro events placed third in worlds albeit a couple of yrs back and was also one half of englands most successful WCOP performance thus far also he was part of the successful world team event. I am also not writing these posts trying to antagonise (irritate for the less intellectual ) just giving my opinion as I am entitled as are you guys and we all know opinions are like belly buttons...... we all have one

Mark was bang out of order what he put for everyone to see which is why Chris retaliated but the email u sent Chris was a disgrace ... So it's ok for u guys but nobody else ..

U don't get picked for things that happened 5 years ago or two years ago .. It's based on results in the last 12 month hence why only 4 of 5 guys can get picked who are making the effort to travel and play worldwide events ... And the best 5 guys the past 12 months are myself /Karl / Daryl / Chris followed by Phil ..

It's that simple IMO

Darren ..

when did we say anything against anyone publicly and accuse anyone of nit picking??.......oh and saying we are sad individuals aswell.....we need fees in the bank to pay for next years membership to the epbf just another rule that we have to follow

and it was only last week mark praising you on becoming world no.1 again so i hardly reckon he was saying anything to antagonize anyone like the time you mention!!

Anyway am done ... With pro9 this why I very rarely come on here anymore because of things like this ...

And this gone way of topic anyway.. I got my opinion on how Matchroom should pick the team and I will stand by it till the day I retire..

Am a passionate guy and I also want British pool to be a success but unless we all on same page and work together it go nowhere .. So am not going to argue with u guys anymore.

I opologize to anyone I upset .. But was few things I at to get of my chest .. And this wasn't the place for sure .. So in future I will email u or talk to u guys in person ...

Where all adults and this no good for anyone at the end of the day..

But we all have strong opinions and strong personalities and we sometimes do things on heat of the moment ..

Whoever makes the team either way it will be two strong teams and that's all what matters ..

Darren

do you honestly think i really want to do this darren? am the first to admit i no absoloutley nothing about running a federation but im doing my best to run things along so that you and other players can still play the tournaments but do not call into question my or marks integrity thats simply not on

some nights this has stressed me out, im now having my worst results ever and the bottom line is i still want to play events maybe at the end of the year you would like to take over the federation?????

hahahaha am enjoying the power yeah having a great time of it all

to say i would like another player banned and to say me and mark would take pleasure in seeing a player banned and to accuse these things of fellow players on a public forum, if thats what you truly believe then i will gladly retire out of the British pool federation as of now!!!!

richard.

Don't envy the job ... But I think things could be done better or handled better ...Karl and whoever was late with fee should have got a small fine for late payment no excuse for late payments .. But trying to get them banned over something like not good.

If I had the time I would gladly give it ago .. But I don't have time as pool full time living for me and I don't live in uk which not ideal ..

If u think your doing the best u can then that's fine that's all u can do ... I support the bpf and want pool to grow in uk ...
As a paying member I would like go see news updates .. I don't think I see any at all .. Be good to see a plan and let the members know maybe we can help with. Certain. Things :-)

Running bodies, leagues, clubs, tournaments, etc on a free part time basis is laudable but rarely results in a "professional" job.

Give many/most promoters a £100,000 and say "go run a 4 event tour" and they will do a smashing job.

Give a governing body a £1m a year and they will go hire a professional executive arm to run the "business" professionally.

It is simple economics really.

As to Matchroom. It is difficult to think of a company world wide that has done more to promote pool consistently and regularly over the last 15 odd years or so.

In that respect, it is difficult to criticise their selection process - in terms of events or players.

Or their professionalism. Relatively at least.

Pool will never be taken seriously (in comparison to other sports) until it can run itself professionally.

Without a massive sea change, in the order of that promised (but not delivered) by the IPT, It seems unlikely we will see this in our lifetimes.

However, that does not mean it is not possible. I read somewhere once that the year that Tiger Woods turned professional around 4-5 golfers earned in excess of $1m a year. Now it is around 20. If golf can see such a massive relative change in fortunes then so can pool.

We can all but hope.

Looking through the PGA money list - it's a breathtaking amount of money.

If you take the top pool player earnings at $100,000 a year. You have to go down to 212nd place (out of 297) to get to golfers earning so little.

The top 60 golfers have earned over $1m for 2013.
