Only 6 days until the Intenational Challenge of Champions and amazingly, for a tournament always now held in Connecticut, USA, the field features not a single American, but is comprised of 3 Europeans and and a Japanese. Mika Immonen (FIN) Darren Appleton (ENG) Yukio Akagariyama (JPN) Huidji See (NED) It's a really tough Winner-take-all format for a cool $25,000 prize (and apparently the players have to sign a legally binding contract not to do splits, and I've seen people crumble towards the end). This is a real "bucket-list" event for anyone who likes to see players performing at their best (and worst) under immense pressure. Course he can win it !! IMO Daz is the strongest player in the event followed by mika who seems to be out of form then the japanese lad and see bringing up the rear !! I no it's a challenge of champions but what are the events the players won, I no see won the world 10 ball and I take it the japanese guy won the world 9 ball but what have Darren and mika won. Just trying to understand the selection process to what looks like a great event [ This message was edited by: BigDave on 2011-08-19 11:47 ]

Funny old process how players r picked for this...... lol Mika im guessing is in as defending champ, Yukio is World 9 ball champ and Hudji World 10 ball champ so makes sense... Last spot i would of thought maybe should of gone to Dennis Orcollo as World 8 ball champ and 3rd World 9 ball champs and is ranked world no1....... Guessing Daz in on last yrs US Open win. SAVIOURS r guaranteed to b going on in this.. FACT lol!!! If i was to bet i would back Daz......

In the press release they indicate the qualifications for player selection... Mika Immomen, from Finland, returns to defend his 2010 ICOC crown. Darren Appleton, 2010 Player of the Year, will represent England. Yukio Akagariyama, 2011 World 9-Ball Champion, will represent Japan. Huidji See, 2011 World 10-Ball Champion, will represent the Netherlands. But as with all invitational events, "he who pays the piper call the tune" and as this is being sold to, and broadcast on ESPN they also select players who will make a good TV programme and draw a sizeable audience - it's all about bums on seats - and as Matt Braun pays the prize money, he gets to choose. Imagine how the Americans feel, being bypassed for a spot in a 4 player/$25,000 tournament held on their own turf in Connecticut! [ This message was edited by: BigDave on 2011-08-19 13:35 ]

I'd have thought orcillo would have been in the mix too with him been a world champion at the time of the event ! Or maybe even the world straight pool champ (who ever it is)

The question isn't can Daz win it. It's how easy will he win it?? Haha seriously tho I fancy Daz to win every comp he plays. Hes that good!!! Out of the 4 in this he by far the strongest player imo and will win it convincingly.

I admit I was surprised to get picked as I thought they would pick the world champs, but thankfully for me Matt Braun put us open champion and player of year in front of Dennis achievements, and yes it's tough event 2 sets race to 5 if 1set each one sudden death rack , I had great chance to win it 2 year ago when lost to Mika in sudden death rack , so am delighted to get another crack at it , the event is held straight after us open in October ----------------- world ranked no 1 and current world 9ball champion Available for exhibitions & coaching www.darrenappleton.com [ This message was edited by: dynamitedaz on 2011-08-19 23:39 ]
