Season to begin Thursday 3 January 2013
The World Professional Billiard League's inaugural Bonus Ball season has been delayed due to added requirements necessary to pass Las Vegas by-laws and zoning permits. Contractors are committed to completing the arena by December 21, 2012. The season will be played in its entirety with a new launch date of January 3, 2013.
In preparation for the season, league players have arrived in Las Vegas this week to practice, attend meetings and have a final fitting for their team uniforms. WPBL President Larry Chiborak said "I am pleased with the unanimous support we have received from the players, the city of Las Vegas and the contractors. Players are not discouraged by this set back, but rather are motivated by the additional opportunity to practice with their teams and against their opponents."
Darren Appleton added "Players are happy to be here; practice the game… this gives us more time to prepare." Appleton went on to say that he is “excited to see how the fans will react to the game" and believes that the WPBL has an "amazing plan for the future".
Earl Strickland agrees that the delay has been "a blessing in disguise and an opportunity for building a comradery that has brought us all closer together. I don’t see anyone here complaining about this game, not even me!"
The WPBL is the first professional billiard league to exist in the sport and with its state of the art broadcast arena will provide unparalleled coverage of the leagues 26 week season.
