You are entitled to your opinion but it would be nice if you were to base it on FACTS rather than some biased version of what you think happened.
This particular promoter has pulled up over a MILLION dollars in prize money over the years.
How does that match up with any thing that you have done for the game that gives you the right to call him grossly incompetent.

Well So, if you are so 'not bad natured' and not short of a dime, why don't you pay me and Melling the £1500 you owe us and have done since you did a runner months ago.

While you are at it, find room in your over flowing bank account to pay Philip Stojanovic if you can remember that far back (Paris jog any memories).

I know you think it's all one big game and I hear you have been bragging about doing a runner on us. I am sure you will have fun describing your actions to me when we meet again. Chris is very easy going, unfortunately I am not.

Fun and games? No...you are just a bad seed.

That isn't libellous, that is fact.

still not sorted this, thought a guy well known as so would have squared this up,after all its 1500 not 15000,not owrth giving ye sen a bad name for 1500 sheets

This thread has gone a bit off topic. I still don't understand how a promoter can take so long to pay out the prize money. It suggests to me they are either badly organised or they don't have the prize money ring-fenced before the tournament starts. Our national tour has paid out around a quarter of a million pounds sterling in prize money and it's always been paid on time without a fuss. We're just a national tour with few resources so how come major World events can't get their act together? How come the WPA don't enforce this stuff properly?

It was my understanding from the WPA constitution that all prize money was to be held in escrow. This doesnt seem to have ever happened, and (in my opinion) is about time it did.

From the WPA website.......
Escrow:

For all new organisers, the prize fund must be secured in escrow no less than forty-five days prior to the commencement date of the main event. This procedure will apply to all new organisers/promoters. It will also apply to any organiser/promoter who hasn’t met his prize money payouts within a reasonable time period after the tournament has ended.

If the funds have not been secured in escrow within the time period, the WPA is obligated to advise the players of the situation.

..........
Therefore, if the players are not informed of the situation they would be within their rights to sue the WPA for damages.

world 8ball never been a problem always paid cash at the event ..sure next year it will need to be paid up front.. even the few events wpa enforced this for example last year ph open and world 10ball it still took me and other players months to get money from wpa

then the tournaments are terribly organized also so many amateur mistakes unreal.. blame starts with wpa they attend all these events run them or so it appears and sanctions them...

some of the things that happen laughable....and doesn't even cost money

LOL!

My last comment was a general observation of how the players have been treated since I started following the game. They should never have to chase their winnings and the fact that they are having to do this is proof in itself that the WPA are incompetent.

Go away Doug...

:)

This isn't Doug's fault. He's not the WPA or the promoter of this event.

Lets be clear here... If the promoter of the event is putting their own money in or manpower resources to make these events happen that is to be welcomed.

But there has to be a standard applied by the WPA and the WPA should enforce this to protect the integrity of the sport and protect the interests of the players. They are failing in that responsibility very badly in my opinion.

And when tours like GB9 with such little resources work their socks off for not much in return it makes my blood boil to see others making money out of this game when they can't even get the basics right.

I get paid 400 hundred quid a weekend for working around 40 hours on GB9 events (plus pre-event prep) and that involves giving up 1.5 days holidays at work each time, which if I bought them back would cost me 270 quid. So in effect I'm working for s*d all. And I feel sure some of these people are getting all expenses paid trips around the world in the finest hotels and still creaming it in. Fair enough... if they could at least run the ****ing event properly and pay prizes promptly! I'd like to bet they don't wait 3 months for their hotel room
and expenses to be paid for.

Is there a perception that the WPA is some sort of a conglomerate corporation. The truth is that it is essentially a kitchen table organisation.
Tennis has Forest Hills and Golf has West Palm Beach. We have Ian Anderson's Kitchen.

They were represented in Fujairah by Ian, well respected US journalist Ted Lerner and Ishuan Singh, another man with good credentials in South Africa's Blackball scene.

None of them are idiots. Ted is the Press Officer for tthe WPA and Ishaun is the Tournament Director. I cannot fault their performances.

Ian's job is to be 'presidential' but I think that he is managing the WPA from too low a level. But he has to be hands on because there are things that command his attention. The big weakness in the set up is the local referees (or more precisely their leader). Even after all this time he hasn't got a clue. So results updates, match scheduling etc leave a lot to be desired.

But that apart, the tournament proceeded to a finish without any incident. If anyone has specific points of wher then I would be glad to hear them

week or two before tournament they decide to change the field from 64 players to 96 why?

draw was done with pieces of paper on a table world ranking event?

no draw online or brackets or times ,nobody knew what was going on first couple of days..

chris melling goes to play semi final his told he play 1pm website says 2pm wall chart says 1.30pm he turns up at 12,3opm and nobody there ?

venue change last minute which nobody knew about until arrived ,but i know the guy that set the venue up with lights and he was working on it a week before tournament starts why wasn't the players told before arrival?

players meeting 7pm day 1 we all sitting in arena until 8.30pm and still nothing then they decide to ask someone out of crowd to do trickshots so max eberle does it with no notice , two hours later finally players meeting

then they give us horrible shirts to play in and half of them don't fit....

another problem players can't take a break until after rack 7 or rack 9.. if need a to go after rack 5 its tough luck etc..

referees can't rack the balls with magic rack

referees off duty and photographers walking inside arena and in front of players and players while down on the shot ...

race to 7s in a world championship

told we get paid cash at venue ,so obviously lot of angry players when told no money will be wired

some guys get scratched for smoking on a time out but other guys just giving warning...

wildcards giving to random ppl with no titles ,but no wildcard to people like efren reyes or bustamante alex etc who was told needed to qualify if want to play amazing ..efren massive draw there and greatest player ever plus he won the first world 8ball held there...

one guy losers first round match decides to go home and not play his losers side match so they bring another local guy in to take his place so u told me doug? amazing..

then total prize fund 150k 50k less than previous year

only pay 12% to winner amazing its a rule in pool generally that the winner gets least 20%.. was a terrible break down in prize fund

ranking points
world 8ball 64-96 players less prize money than lets say china open and us open

last year rankings
winner of
world 8ball gets 1000pts 20-40k winner 64-96 players
world 9ball 1000 36k winner 128 players
world 10ball 1000 60k winner 128 players
china open 500pts 40k winner 64-96 players
us open     417 pts 30k winner 256 players
philippine open 500pts 30k winner 64-96 players
beijing open 500 pts 40k winner 64-96 players
japan open    330 pts 20k winner 64-96 players

just a mess us open most prize fund biggest field and gets 417 pts winner ..no consistency now they add world rankings events in china lets hope they worth playing ...

so many silly problems that don't cost anything.

THIS WAS THE EIGHTH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP HELD HERE AND I HAVE TO CONCEDE THAT DARREN DOES HAVE A NUMBER OF VALID POINTS IN THIS BRAINSTORMING POST

THE TOP 32 SEEDS ON THE WPA RANKINGS WHO WERE IN THE TOURNAMENT WERE PLACED ON THE DRAW SHEET IN SEEDED ORDER. THIS GAVE THEM A FIRST ROUND BYE. ALL THE OTHER NAMES WERE ON THE COMPUTER READY TO BE DRAWN RANDOMLY INTO THE 16 GROUPS. I WAS SITTING AT THE TABLE WITH ISHUAN WHEN HE INEXPLICABLY GOT UP AND TOOK HIS LAPTOP DOWN INTO THE ARENA AND STARTED THE PLAYERS MEETING. I HAD THE TASK OF COLLECTING THE ENTRY FEES FOR THE WPA AND WHEN THAT WAS OVER I TRIED TO FIND OUT ABOUT THE DRAW. BUT IT DIDN’T APPEAR UNTIL ABOUT 4 HOURS LATER AND WAS POSTED THROUGH PLAYERS HOTEL ROOMS
no draw online or brackets or times ,nobody knew what was going on first couple of days..

UNFORTUNATLY THIS IS PRETTY NORMAL IN THE MIDDLE EAST WHEN INVITED DIGNITARIES ARE DUE TO SHOW UP AT A CERTAIN TIME AND THEY FREQUENTLY TURN UP LATE
then they give us horrible shirts to play in and half of them don't fit....

THIS IS NOT TRUE. BOTH EFREN AND BUSTA WERE GIVEN WILDCARDS BUT TURNED THEM DOWN BECAUSE OF EXHIBITION COMMITTMENTS IN THE USA.
one guy losers first round match decides to go home and not play his losers side match so they bring another local guy in to take his place so u told me doug? amazing..
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED WAS THAT ONE IRANIAN PLAYER WHO WAS RUNNING LATE ARRIVING HAD HIS SPOT TAKEN BY ANOTHER IRANIAN PLAYER BUT UNDER THE NAME OF THE ORIGINAL ENTRY. HE LOST WITHOUT SCORING A RACK BUT STILL WENT TO THE LOSERS BRACKET WHERE THE ORIGINAL PLAYER WOULD TURN UP NEXT DAY TO TAKE HIS OWN SPOT IN THE TOURNAMENT. BUT THIS WAS DISCOVERED BEFORE THE DECEPTION TOOK PLACE AND HE NEVER PLAYED.
then total prize fund 150k 50k less than previous year

only pay 12% to winner amazing its a rule in pool generally that the winner gets least 20%.. was a terrible break down in prize fund

ranking points
world 8ball 64-96 players less prize money than lets say china open and us open

last year rankings
winner of
world 8ball gets 1000pts 20-40k winner 64-96 players
world 9ball 1000 36k winner 128 players
world 10ball 1000 60k winner 128 players
china open 500pts 40k winner 64-96 players
us open     417 pts 30k winner 256 players
philippine open 500pts 30k winner 64-96 players
beijing open 500 pts 40k winner 64-96 players
japan open    330 pts 20k winner 64-96 players

just a mess us open most prize fund biggest field and gets 417 pts winner ..no consistency now they add world rankings events in china lets hope they worth playing ...

so many silly problems that don't cost anything.
