I would not mock the United Arab Emirates (UAE) too much beacause a lot of the players there have Filipino ethnicity, Jovin Bustamante for example represents the UAE and he is cousin of Django. Big Dave was at Fujirah last year so he should be able to tell you.

Most certainly the top 4 in the rankings should represent England A & B but will Matchroom sport allow that though with quality players such as Steve Davis who regularly plays Mosconi and World Champs. I hope they recognise the talent of top 4 and choose them they deserve it.

Yeah your right it is almost certain that Steve Davis and I think Ronnie O'Sullivan will be in it in some form. I should imagine they will pick Raj Hundal and probably Imran and leave Daryl out. I personally think this would be wrong as Daryl would be the first person down in my team sheet.

That would be very harsh on Dazzler i would be upset if they didn't include Daryl but also to be dropped for Ronnie nothing against him but it sounds too much like they would be doing it for commercial and tv purposes rather than showing the true talent of the 9ball players here in England.
My 4 if they do include Steve Davis and i feel for Mark Gray also.
Steve Davis & Imran Majid
Raj Hundal & Daryl Peach
Another way they could sort it top2 in the rankings automatically qualify as captains of A & B respectively and if they wanted to have Ronnie and Steve then let them play off against the 3rd and 4th ranked players i.e. for example based on the current rankings
Imran and Raj would qualify
and then race to 10 playoffs
Steve Davis v Daryl Peach
Ronnie O'Sullivan v Mark Gray
Hows does that fair for everyone its only my opinion but then at least no one misses out and Mark and Daryl can show Steve and Ronnie why they are ranked so high but again no one knows how they are selecting the teams unless the 4 players who are playing for England A & B are sworn to secrecy and cant say anything.
Anyone out there know any info on the players representing England?

The Spanish pair will be the top two ranked Spaniards in the Eurotour rankings. I don´t know if this system will be universal but the fact that England (who are the only country to have 2 teams) have an "A" and a "B" team leads me to think that this is where Matchroom will be using their wildcards, amd their superstar audience pullers. All will be revealed in the fullness of time..............

why can't they hold a qualifier with the semi finalists winning a place in each team and give everyone a chance to play, im sure most players would like this, or they can choose two players and have the finalists qualify for a team, how does anyone feel about this? Looks like I'll be trying to get a wee weekend in Newport in August, then! Who's all going? And, just as importantly, is there a decent pool hall there? Best wishes thecardman

The Eurotour rankings have got to be one of the best methods for choosing the players. These people have the necessary international experience. Domestic competition is not the same.

Ive been informed by Ross McInnes that the Scottish team for the World Cup of Pool will be Michael Valentine and Pat Holtz.
There can be no argument about Michael, but i would like to know what ranking list Matchroom were looking at when they chose Pat???
This is nothing against Pat personally in the slightest, but the facts are he is No.5 on the current provisional rankings and is No.10 on the official rankings at the start of the year!
I for one, as the current No.2 on the provisional list, feel a bit aggreived that i havent even been considered for the team, and i think Davy Jack(official No.2 at the start of the season)and Jayson Shaw(current Scottish champion)have reason to feel the same way.
I played snooker for 12 years before moving across to pool a couple of years ago, and i know for a fact a situation like this would just never have happened. If you're highly enough ranked to play for your country at snooker you get picked, no contraversy, no arguements.
Surely this is exactly the type of situation that rankings are made for. If they are gonna be ignored for things like this, what is the point in having them at all???

Clark...you have my sympathy. I was present at a "committee discussion" Ross held to see who should be put forward for the team. Most present chose Michael/Pat, whilst Ross seemed to be in favour of Michael/Jayson. I was the only one who put Davy's name forward (as the official number 2 to Michael) for exactly the reasons you just stated. Ranking lists have to be there for a reason.
In the end, I think it was "agreed" to hold a scotch doubles qualifying event, with the winning pair representing Scotland. And that was the last I heard of it. Seems Ross has had a change of heart all on his own. What's the point of having a committee....(insert your own gripe here).......etc.
There's no doubt Michael and Pat will be a formidable duo, and will represent Scotland well. I'll certainly be cheering them on. But the way things are decided up here is shocking.
To the regular Pro9 members...sorry to get all "Scottish" on your asses, but our forums out of order till Thursday, so we have to air our grievances here. As for the English team? No doubts it should be Raj and Dazzler, in an echo of my above argument.

It seems to be the people who make the most effort to get themselves noticed that get invites to things like this - Pat promotes himself well, with his own web site and his unique kilt-wearing trademark.
I'm not saying it's right, but it happens, and I've always said player's need to be all-rounders to survive in this game, and that includes being your own business manager.
You only need to look at how Kevin Trudeau picked his 50 players for the King Of The Hill event!

Firstly, yes Pat is in the IPT. Because he put forward an application and it got accepted, and good luck to him for it, but it's not because he qualified through winning matches.
Im not saying that Pat shouldn't have been cosidered. He is the player of the moment up here, but that is over a relativly short period of time.
Would it have been so difficult to organise a 4 man play-off between Pat, Jayson, Davy and myself with the winner partenering Michael???
Why does this hand picking seem to happen so much in American pool? Im sure there are gonna be players down south who are gonna feel very hard done to as well when they don't get picked. All this does is undermine the event, and the whole sport in general.
