The Top 5 Coolest High Tech Pool Tables in the World High Tech or High Art? Uber Cool or Sub Zero? Classy or Classic? Pro9 takes it's annual look at the latest designs
Wednesday 4 February 2009
The Royal custom pool table www.luxury-billiards.com The Top 5 Coolest High Tech Pool Tables in the World
It seems as if there are more designs for pool tables than there are for cars or houses, or perhaps architects start out designing pool tables before they more on to bigger things, but for some reason, we can't stop marvelling at their gorgeous creations like "The Royal" (shown above) from Luxury Billiards.
Technological miracles, design masterpieces, modern materials, excessive electronics... Pro9 has got them all in this year's look at the coolest pool tables in the world, with a slant on the high tech!

Imran Majid wins yet another event - this time in Bristol!
2009 Bristol Open 9 Ball Tournament Rileys American Pool and Snooker - Yate 17 East Walk Yate Shopping Centre Yate Bristol BS37 4AS www.rileysltd.com
Sunday 1 February 2009
Imran Majid puts another notch on his cue, this time at Bristol. Majid and Massey in final at Yate
34 runners made the trip to Bristol this weekend, and they were duly rewarded with a plethora of pool - divided into eight groups (six groups of four players and two groups of five players) they were set to task with best of 9 racks for victory.
A grand total of £850 in prize money was available, and after a splendid buffet play resumed with a single knock out format from the last 16 onwards.
London's Imran Majid took top honours and the £340 first prize after beating Damian Massey in the race-to-nine final, with a score of 9-5. Damian took £170 for second place, and semi-finalists Chris Buckmaster and Lloyd Matining took £85 each whilst the quarter-finalists were rewarded with £42.50 a-piece.
Many thanks to Lee Hersey for running the event and providing the results, to the management and staff of Rileys Yate for their sterling efforts and, by all accounts, a wonderful buffet, and finally to Simon Clarke who stepped up at the last minute to take these fantastic photos.

Saturday 28 February - Sunday 1 March 2009
British Wheelchair Tour kicks off with new format and new sponsors
There's a very exciting year in prospect for Britain's wheelchair pool players as tour organisers have restructured the tour and brought new sponsors into play, and the best news is, it's not too late to join.
The tour can now welcome players of widely ranging ability with a new three division structure that means that non-professional players can battle amongst themselves in a new "Challenge" division before having the opportunity of matching themselves against the elite players on the tour.

Turkey's Semih Sayginer is back. Three World Champions fail to qualify for AGIPI BILLIARD MASTERS final stages
The second and last qualification weekend for the AGIPI BILLIARD MASTERS has come to an end. As the reigning and the former World Champions Zanetti and Umeda did not qualify, only five out of the eight World crown holders made it to the final stages. Two young guns are rewarded for their performance this weekend with a return ticket for March: Jeremy Bury and Filipos Kasidokostas. Alongside the two representatives of the next generation are two much heralded notables: Frederic Caudron and Semih Sayginer. Caudron stupefied the crowd this weekend with his new-found form, after winning the World Cup in Sluiskil last week. Semih Sayginer, ´Mr. Magic´, the number 1061 of the world ranking, was just awesome. Phenomenal cueing combined with the brightest of heads...he´s back!

Philippines to host 2009 World Cup of Pool
2009 PartyGaming World Cup of Pool (Press Conference) Sports Plus Café Eastwood City Libis Quezon City Philippines www.worldcupofpool.com www.matchroomsport.com
28 January 2009
Efren Reyes and Francisco Bustamante celebrating their World Cup of Pool victory in 2006. Philippines to host 2009 World Cup of Pool
THE 2009 World Cup of Pool will be staged in the Philippines for the first time in the tournament's history.
A press conference was held at the Sports Plus Cafe, Eastwood , Philippines, earlier this week to announce the event, which will now be in its fourth year.
The first competition was staged in Newport, Wales with the next two in Rotterdam, Holland, but this will be the first time it will have been held outside of Europe.
Featuring 32 two-player teams from around the globe, The World Cup of Pool, sponsored by PartyGaming, has become one of the most important dates in the sport's calendar and this year's version will be hosted from September 1 to 6 in Manila.
"We're really looking forward to a great tournament because the World Cup of Pool is a special event and to bring it here to the Philippines is really exciting," said Matchroom Sport Director Eddie Hearn.

Cowie Wins First SAPPA Tour Title
2008/09 SAPPA Tour Event 7 Styx American Pool Bar 28 Victoria Road Kirkcaldy Scotland www.scottish9ball.com www.styx.info
Sunday 18 January 2009
2008/09 SAPPA Tour Event 7
Sunderland's Chris Cowie won his first SAPPA Tour Event with an exciting 10 racks to 7 victory over reigning European Junior Champion, Phil Burford. The turnout of 48 players saw a good mix of new faces, regular faces and returning faces. One of the returning faces was that of Jimmy Pollock, SAPPA’s first Scottish 9 Ball Champion back in 2000 and he showed that his time away from SAPPA had not dulled his game by reaching the Quarter Finals.
The draw at the start of the tournament brought some fascinating match ups with Phil Burford having to work his way past Scottish number one, Pat Holtz, and the winner of the last Tour Event, Fraser Patrick, just to reach the last 16. In another part of the draw, Glasgow’s Stevie Capaldi had an excellent 7-4 victory over former Scottish 9 Ball and reigning Scottish 8 Ball Champion Jayson Shaw.

Go9 tournament report from Billericay - Results and photos!
GO9 Pool Room Above the Forge Public House The Pantiles Queens Park Billericay Essex CM12 0UA 01277 626505 07716 724438 More photos by Bethan Sage - to view and buy - available NOW!!!
Sunday 25 January 2009
Burton breaks the bank at Billericay!
This is a truly beautiful club but I only managed to get one photo before people started arriving, and unfortunately it doesn't do the club justice, it is truly immaculate and I'm very glad I came today. It's really great to see photos of European players around the place, even some GB9 players have made it onto the walls.
All the tables are Dynamic II's, all the cloths are powder blue, all the balls are Pro Cup TV - it's a real nice player's club, and it's above a pub that does great food at weekends too... Definitely worth moving to Essex for!!!
The tournament got underway and the players that showed they were in good form were James Taylor and Darren Saxby, only conceding a few racks between them in the opening rounds, but when it came to the final it was Tony Burton and local hero Calum Ranson who battled it out for the title, with Burton beating Ranson 7-3 for the lion's share of the cash!
Once again Bethan Sage has been taking photos for Pro9 and will be adding them to the "Pool Photos" site tomorrow where you can view and buy the photos, or have them printed on mugs, on mouse mats, and even as jigsaw puzzles!
