Mc Donald Goes One Step Better To Be Crowned All Ireland Under-21 Champion
Mark Mc Donald (Belfast) went one step better than last year to be crowned the 2006 All Ireland Under-21 9-Ball Pool Champion after losing out in the final last year to the impressive Peter Doherty from Derry.
Mark or to everyone that knows him as “The Bear” played outstanding and solid pool throughout the day to be crowned champion for the very first time in this under-21 event which always produces great champions down the years.

Caroline Walch made this beautiful 4-9 carom shot at the 2006 BPPPA Stafford Open.
Uzzell grinds out a win at the BPPPA Stafford Open
Kevin Uzzell, the UK's most talented 9-ball pool player from the Midlands, has made a welcome return to the final table as he racked up his best result of the season at the BPPPA Stafford Open with a very hard fought win over Gary Bullock.
With several of the tour's best players still busy playing in the IPT's North American Open in Las Vegas, everyone was very aware that this was a very open tournament, and the contenders were out in force to play a little catch up with the ranking points on offer.
This is only Uzzell's second final of the year, the first was in January when he was soundly beaten by Daryl Peach at the British Professional Pool Players Association's Croydon Open.
Obviously determined not to be beaten again, Uzzell fought "tooth and nail" on a poorly racking table, through a never ending series of dry breaks and badly clustered "un-runout-able" splits.
There was only one "break and dish" of the entire race to eleven final. As the balls split perfectly, Uzzell pounced on the opportunity with relish and positively ran around the table, sinking ball after ball at break neck speed. Picking up his chalk from the table as soon as the stroke was finished, slapping the chalk back down after the briefest dusting of the tip and shooting the next shot without delay, really showing his true speed.
The rest of the match however, did not pan out as nicely as the poor splits meant that the players exchanged safety after safety after safety, cautiously trying to gain the advantage.
It was Uzzell who managed to get the "lion's share" of the table time, eventually beating Bullock with an 11-6 score.
Interestingly, Bullock, who hasn't played since 2003, has made a phoenix-like return with an awesome performance at his first tournament in three years.
The Somerset player reappraised his life style when he was involved in a very bad car accident on his way home after a gruelling tournament in Cambridge in 2003. Fortunately no one was injured but after waking up at the wheel with his car spinning off a motorway at very high speed in a cloud of dust, he realised he was burned out and disheartened with all the hours he was devoting to the game for the relatively little financial return available on tour at that time.
Now, refreshed and reinvigorated from his leave of absence, Bullock has played some of the best pool he has ever produced at this event and was only stopped by Uzzell's extraordinary tenacity. Watch this space!

Hohmann wins $350,000 at IPT North American Open!
The most historic event in pool history has just concluded with Thorsten “The Hitman” Hohmann winning $350,000 for his double-hill victory over “Marvelous Marlon” Manalo.
Complete with Michael Buffer announcing his trademark phrase, modified for the occasion to “Let’s get ready to rack ‘em!” the IPT’s first major event was an unqualified success. Two of the best players in the world performed in front of a wall-to-wall crowd, and the set was classy and striking. Manalo had chosen Jose Parica as he corner man, while Charlie Williams was in Hohmann’s corner.

Eighteen players came into Friday’s rounds with high hopes, but only six will return for Saturday’s matches. Peach, Appleton and Diks progress to $30,000 matches - Hill and Hundal out!
The hatchet came down on half of the 36-player field after Thursday’s last round at the North American Open 8-Ball Championship. The brutal, five-round format killed off 18 players who earned $17,000 for their 19th-place finishes, while 18 remain to attempt to carve out a bigger piece of the incredible $2,000,000+ prize fund.

O'Sullivan, Morris and Boyes out, but Peach, Appleton, Hill and Hundal advance.
Yesterday was a pretty bloody day in Las Vegas, but there's still plenty of European talent winning through to Round Four of the International Pool Tour's North American Open in Nevada.
16 Europeans advance to the Group 4 stage of 36 players, but much to the sadness of his millions of fans, Ronnie O'Sullivan finally bowed out after acquitting himself very well in his first professional 8-Ball Pool Tournament. So many hopes were pinned on the snooker superstar's chances but ultimately he succumbed to yet another particularly tough draw.

O'Sullivan scrapes through with the finest of margins.
The second round started with 120 happy players! Twelve hours later, the field was cut in half. With a $5,000 difference in the payout between Tuesday's and tomorrow's rounds at the $2,000,000+ North American Open 8-Ball Championship, play was tight and contestants were tense on the event's second day. Only eight players went undefeated throughout today's round, including three Americans: David Matlock, Nick Varner, and Charlie Williams.
