Mc Donald Goes One Step Better To Be Crowned All Ireland Under-21 Champion

Mark Mc Donald (Belfast) went one step better than last year to be crowned the 2006 All Ireland Under-21 9-Ball Pool Champion after losing out in the final last year to the impressive Peter Doherty from Derry.

Mark or to everyone that knows him as “The Bear” played outstanding and solid pool throughout the day to be crowned champion for the very first time in this under-21 event which always produces great champions down the years.

Click on "Read More..." for the details.

Mark started out playing on Saturday morning defeating a host of top players along the way including his good friend and practise partner Daniel Gorman also from Belfast in the final.

From the last-16 Mark overcame the strong challenge of Hans Kuiten (Antrim Town) who is regarded as one of N. Ireland top under-21 English 8-ball players, but Mark didn’t care about reputations and ran out a 8-6 winner.

In the ¼-finals Mark once again kept his form going to defeat Co. Down top junior cueist from Newry Anthony Rafferty on a 8-4 score-line to progress to the semi-finals.

Garet Quinn (Tyrone), Stephen Dempsey (Cavan), Daniel Gorman (Belfast),
and Mark Mc Donald (Belfast, winner).

The semi-finals seen Mark come up against Ireland’s number one junior player from Co. Cavan, and what a display both players give to the spectators who was watching as each game went rack for rack until Mark won the last to two games to get over the line on a 8-6 victory to progress to the final for the second year running.

Daniel Gorman (runner-up) and Mark Mc Donald (winner).

In the final Mark came up against his good friend Daniel Gorman who also put in a great performance by reaching the final with victories over Ben Mc Moran (Tyrone 8-7, last-16), Ronan Fay (Tyrone, 8-6, ¼-finals), and Gareth Quinn (Tyrone, 8-4) before losing out to Mark “The Bear” Mc Donald in the final 10-5.

This was a great achievement from young Mark Mc Donald who was crowned the 2006 All Ireland Under-21 9-Bal Pool Champion for the first time which will hopefully open the doors for more victories in years to come.
