O'Sullivan scrapes through with the finest of margins.

The second round started with 120 happy players! Twelve hours later, the field was cut in half. With a $5,000 difference in the payout between Tuesday's and tomorrow's rounds at the $2,000,000+ North American Open 8-Ball Championship, play was tight and contestants were tense on the event's second day. Only eight players went undefeated throughout today's round, including three Americans: David Matlock, Nick Varner, and Charlie Williams.

Players continue to struggle with pocketing balls on the break. Rodney Morris, Nick Van den Burg, Shawn Putnam, Shannon Daulton-all possess big breaks, and all are falling short of what they consider their "average" to be. The cloth is starting to wear in making the pockets even tighter.

Consider these statistics: after Round Two a total of 17,066 games have been played. Break and Run-outs account for only 10.6% of the games. Making the eight ball on the break is rare. Only 27 eight balls were legally pocketed on the break out of over 17,000 breaks meaning that only about one in every 632 breaks result in such a feat. Only one woman remains in the tournament. The UK's Sarah Ellerby managed to prove that her game really is eight ball, by advancing to the final 60. When asked about her success in the tournament she stated that she "feels in her realm with eight ball." The only other issues today have been sportsmanship issues, such as keeping within the allotted time frame for matches and walking out on matches. There have been one or two players who consistently push the limits of the referees. That prompted a telephone call from Tour Director Deno Andrews, who is with his wife expecting a child at any moment, to on-site tournament officials. Andrews encouraged officials to stick to the letter of the rules and issue penalties to players who "stall." George San Souci walked off the tournament floor and never showed up for his final match of the day. Because of the round robin format, he was already statistically eliminated from advancing. However, by forfeiting the match, San Souci seriously hurt his Money List statistics, which could come back to haunt him later in the year in the fight for 2007 Tour Cards. Besides hurting himself, it is considered in very poor taste not to complete all your matches in a round robin event. This unsportsmanlike conduct can result in suspension or loss of his Tour Card.

Check in throughout the day to see how the top 60 players are doing. Who do you think will win the historic $350,000 first prize?
