Peach wins Italian Euro Tour!

Another British winner takes centre stage on one of pool's most prestigious winner's podiums - this time it's Blackpool's Daryl Peach who takes the honours at the Italian edition of the EPBF's Euro Tour in Treviso near Venice.

Peach's sprint to the final was no mean feat as he had to run the gamut of Europe's finest pool players, including sweeping aside the recently crowned WPA World 8 Ball Champion, and fellow Blackpool player Karl Boyes, with what must have been a confidence boosting 9-3 victory in the Last 16 stage of the event.

Other notable victims of "The Dazzler" included fellow World Team Championship team-mate Mark Gray in a scintillating match that finished with a more modest 9-8 victory to Peach, and another close run victory in the final match (9-7) against Mateusz Sniegocki, from Poland - a country that seems to be producing almost as much powerful new cue talent as Britain. Watch this space!

Yesterday the Poolkrant office received the debut album of The Pressure Room, fronted by Rico Diks. With the live stream of the European Championships on the screen and Rico’s music in our ears we got homesick to yesterday’s and were asking ourselves if Rico got homesick as well...time for an interview. How are things with Rico Diks, ex-pool professional, musician, front man of The Pressure Room, living in London, England.

Immonen tops WPA Ranking List

Despite an uncharacteristic upset in the early rounds of the 2010 WPA Etisalat World 8-Ball Championships, Mika Immonen's incredible year of victories and high finishes has assured his retention of the number 1 spot on the most recently published WPA Ranking List, and with still a substantial margin between him and his nearest opposition.

Karl Boyes' victory at the World 8 Ball Championships in Fujairah has boosted his ranking with a meteoric boost to 3rd place, a mere 130 points behind 2nd place Darren Appleton.

Germany's superstar player Ralf Souquet fills out the top four spots in a ranking list that features heavily with European players in the high ranking positions.

Congratulations to Mika from all of us at Pro9.

Karl Boyes from Great Britain - WPA Etisalat World 8-Ball Champion 2010

Karl Boyes new World Champ!

The World 8-Ball Championships final was a run-out fest between Niels Feijen and Karl Boyes. The First rack had a bit of back and forth action and was taken by Boyes. Then he broke and ran three consecutive racks to lead 4-0. When he came up dry on his next break Feijen ran the table and then broke and ran the next rack. 4-2. Then Feijen suffered a dry break and Boyes cleared that table and broke and ran the next. Another dry break brought Feijen back to the table to clean up. With the score at 6-3 Feijen broke but the table came up tough. He missed his second shot at the table and Boyes returned the favor by missing his second shot attempt as well. Again Feijen came to the table and again his second shot failed. The table simply was not being at all generous with opportunities. Boyes studied the table for a while and jacked up for a nifty little nip shot into the corner that gave him the chance to clear the table. When he succeeded the score became 7-3 in our race to 13 and Feijen was in trouble deep.

Emma Bonney - Ladies Billiards World Champion 2010

Billiards World Championship

PORTSMOUTH’S Emma Bonney continued her domination of women’s billiards by claiming her fifth world title at the Hall Green Stadium, Birmingham ( on Thursday, April 8 ).

The 33-year-old edged past Indian star Chitra Magimairaj 269-220 in the 90-minute final.

Bonney, who defeated 2006 and 2007 champion Magimairaj in last year’s final in Cambridge , collected £400 from Paul Wood, sponsor of the World Ladies Billiards & Snooker Association’s world championships.

She said: “I’m certainly pleased to have beaten Chitra again. I know Chitra is a good player and comes all the way over from India . That’s her main game.”

Two days after being knocked out of the women’s world snooker championships at the semi-final stage in Cambridge, the Queen of the South headed north in a bid to clinch the three-ball trophy for the third year running.

At one point Magimairaj led by 60. But Bonney clawed back the deficit with 20 minutes left and held a slim 25-point lead with five minutes to go.

Reanne Evans - World Ladies Snooker Champion 2010
Pictures by Monique Limbos

Reanne’s joy of six

REANNE Evans has again raised the bar in women’s snooker by winning the world title for a record sixth year running (on Wednesday, April 7).

The undisputed world number one racked up six breaks of more than 40 in a 5-1 demolition of good friend Maria Catalano in the final at Cambridge Snooker Centre.

In a blistering display of break building, after losing the first frame, Evans compiled runs of 56, 45, 69, 52, 45 and 62.

It is now 61 matches since the 24-year-old mother-of-one, from Dudley, West Midlands , last tasted defeat on the World Ladies Billiards & Snooker Association circuit.

Riley’s Darlington Tour Stop 2 - 5th-6th June 2010

There's a very exciting year in prospect for Britain's wheelchair pool players as tour organisers have restructured the tour and the best news is, it's not too late to join.

The tour can now welcome players of widely ranging ability with a new two division structure that means that non-professional players can battle amongst themselves in a new "Challenge" division as well as having the opportunity of matching themselves against the elite players on the tour.
