Go9 tournament report from Billericay - Results and photos!
GO9 Pool Room Above the Forge Public House The Pantiles Queens Park Billericay Essex CM12 0UA 01277 626505 07716 724438 More photos by Bethan Sage - to view and buy - available NOW!!!
Sunday 25 January 2009
Burton breaks the bank at Billericay!
This is a truly beautiful club but I only managed to get one photo before people started arriving, and unfortunately it doesn't do the club justice, it is truly immaculate and I'm very glad I came today. It's really great to see photos of European players around the place, even some GB9 players have made it onto the walls.
All the tables are Dynamic II's, all the cloths are powder blue, all the balls are Pro Cup TV - it's a real nice player's club, and it's above a pub that does great food at weekends too... Definitely worth moving to Essex for!!!
The tournament got underway and the players that showed they were in good form were James Taylor and Darren Saxby, only conceding a few racks between them in the opening rounds, but when it came to the final it was Tony Burton and local hero Calum Ranson who battled it out for the title, with Burton beating Ranson 7-3 for the lion's share of the cash!
Once again Bethan Sage has been taking photos for Pro9 and will be adding them to the "Pool Photos" site tomorrow where you can view and buy the photos, or have them printed on mugs, on mouse mats, and even as jigsaw puzzles!

New Essex venue opens with 9 ball tournament on Sunday
GO9 Pool Room Above the Forge Public House The Pantiles Queens Park Billericay Essex CM12 0UA 01277 626505 07716 724438
Sunday 25 January 2009
Essex gets a new 9 ball pool venue
There's a new place to find pool action in Essex, and it's very nine-ball friendly, in fact they have a tournament there on Sunday if you're quick you may still get to enter, and I'll be there too, reporting from the front line and taking a selection of goodies from The Pro Shop as well!
The club is run by Darren Saxby, you may have met him on the most recent GB9 Ball Tour event in Solihull, or you can see me putting him on the spot in the most recent video uploaded at The Pro Tube today, where he talks about the new club and his ambitions on the tour.

Marcus Chamat wins Open Internacional de Billar Pool
I Open Internacional de Billar Pool "Ciudad de Dos Hermanas" I Aniversario club Speed Pool Andalucía Spain
Saturday-Sunday 17-18 January 2009
The winners receive their trophies on the podium. Report and photos from Seville by Peter Aprile
The 8 Ball tournament in Seville this weekend for which nearly 100 players turned up, was won by Swedish visitor Marcus Chamat.
Chamat surprised everyone by turning up for this tournament but surprised nobody by his superior play. He ploughed through the field effortlessly as far as the quarter finals where he met local hero David "Pumita" Lopez.
This was one of the games of the tournament and Lopez had the measure of Chamat throughout but a couple of dry breaks were his downfall and Chamat took advantage at 6-6 and won the two racks necessary to get himself into the semi final.
Previously another visitor, Fabio Petroni, had to give way to the young David Lopez in the last sixteen losing by 8 racks to 4.
Yet another visitor, this time from England, Richard Lacey who at one time had lived in Spain and was the equal in his day of players like Alcaide, Cabello and Tapies etc. showed that he can still play a bit.

GB9 Ball Tour 2009 Midlands Classic - Press Release
The GB9 Midlands Classic - also featuring the Solihull Challenge Cup & Pro Cup Rileys American Pool and Snooker - Solihull Hobs Moat Road Solihull West Midlands B92 8JN www.rileysltd.com www.gb9balltour.com
Friday-Sunday 9-11 January 2009
The ceremonies kicked off with Imran Majid being presented with this truly magnificent "2008 GB9 Player Of The Year" trophy for his incredible domination of the 2008 season. The GB9 Ball Tour starts 2009 by praising 2008's Player Of The Year!
The GB9 Ball Tour is constantly receiving plaudits from it's players for the outstandingly professional manner in which it is run, and it's clear to see the unflagging effort that the organisers take to make sure that the events run as smoothly as a well oiled machine.
It could be expected that these tributes would be a rare thing when dealing with 128 discerning players who pay between £500 and £700 ($700 - $1,000US) a year membership fees for the privilege of playing on the tour, 96 of whom are attempting to qualify for promotion to the elite Pro Division of 32 players - and the proof that they are doing something very right and very well is that applications to join the tour have always been over-subscribed.
So it's heartening to see that they have decided to start the 2009 season with a hark-back to the previous one, by rewarding last year's stand out player with a truly beautiful trophy.
Imran Majid's domination of the tour in 2008, winning no less than four of the six main events put him at the top of the rankings with an unassailable points lead, and because of the rolling six event system utilised by the tour, each new event now means that he has to try to defend his maximum points at each of the events he won, knowing that even the slightest slip will see the rest of the pack closing the gap.
