Mark Gray presented with the GB9 Midlands Classic trophy by tour sponsor Klaus Zobrekis,
who travelled from Germany to represent his Z9 Billiard Cloth company at this event.
Mark Gray beats Daryl Peach in final of GB9 Midlands Classic!
The final of the GB9 Midlands Classic, the main event of this three day tournament, saw an out of sorts World 9 Ball Champion Daryl Peach convincingly beaten by a slick Mosconi Cup potting machine named Mark Gray with a one-sided 11-6 margin.
Saturday evening saw the first two events played to completion - in the Pro Cup semi-finals Darren Appleton beat Imran Majid and Michael Valentine beat James Kay creating a mouth-watering Appleton vs Valentine final.
Appleton had only just returned from the Philippines where he had been getting plenty of match practice and went into the final as the strong favourite, however Valentine knew he had a tough match ahead and as he has frequently shown before he rises to the tougher challenges and often plays his best pool under those conditions - this was the case today as he eventually beat Appleton 9:6.
The Challenge Division semi-finals saw Steven Petty beat Matt Ford and Anthony Ginn triumph over Gareth Steele setting up a Petty versus Ginn final.
Once again there appeared to be a strong favourite, and once again the tables were turned as experienced veteran Ginn was edged at the finish line with an 11:9 scoreline from fellow Londoner and GB9 newcomer Steven Petty.

It's back, and we're all raring to go - it's the first GB9 tour event of 2009!
There will be a players meeting for all tour players today, Friday 9 Jan at 4.30 pm - a time to reflect on achievements last year, and look at what’s new for GB9 in 2009 before the matches get under way.
Around 40 new players will feature in the 128 player field which will also include 3 current world champions and 2 current Mosconi Cup winners.
Last year's tour superstar Imran Majid will be aiming to do the virtually impossible and maintain his points lead, but the tiniest slip will see the pack begin the big catch up. A similar challenge will face World 10 Ball Champion Darren Appleton after he finished No.1 ranked in the Pro Cup division rankings last year, and perhaps an even tougher year awaited Thomas Ainsworth-Smith, rewarded for "topping" the 2008 Challenge Division with a promotion to the Pro Cup in 2009 but unable to find sufficient funds from sponsorship this season he has had to relinquish his spot!

Voer Kafe is one of the nicest pool clubs in Spain. It is situated in Málaga on the Costa del Sol and has a total of 18 tables. 8 of which are 9 feet and 10 others which are 7 feet.
Two of the 9 foot tables are in private rooms which can be hired at a very reasonable cost for parties or groups of friends etc. Each room is equipped with comfortable seating, a service telephone for summoning a waitress and a video camera for those who wish to capture their games on film.

Raj Hundal is one of pool's fastest rising stars!
Raj Hundal of India has signed on with global events producer Dragon Promotions to be exclusively represented as one of pool's rising stars. Hundal, known as The Hitman, has in a short time proven to the pool world he is a force to be reckoned with. He first turned heads in 2005 when he defeated #1 seed Yang Ching Shun of Taiwan at the World 9-Ball Championship, and then shocked the field as the dark horse winner of the 2005 World Pool Masters taking down veteran Rodney Morris (USA) in the finals. In 2008 Hundal played his first full year on the US Pro Tour circuit starting out the year unranked and ending the year ranked #6.

Start the year as you mean to go on...
Here's an article inspired by the faith and enthusiasm shown by the organiser brave enough to run a last minute event on New Year's day, and to celebrate the fanaticism shown by those who attended too.
Despite struggling for numbers, the day proved to be good match practice with the group stages giving every player no less than 6 matches each.
We're also celebrating Andy Warden's Christmas present, a new f/1.4 lens for his camera, with these fabulous photos - thanks again Andy!

Cologne is a beautiful city, the club looks very nice, and I've heard of the organisers names before, but it was the prize money that caught my eye, ten thousand euros, although I believe it's only guaranteed with a full field so perhaps it would be wise to check on numbers before travelling. As ten ball is the game "de jour" there should be some serious interest in this, so keep an eye out for it.
