Parker On A High as he takes the double at Wycombe

Parker On A High as he takes the double at Wycombe
Mark completes the double again by winning both sides of the draw this weekend in Total9ball’s The Switch 2 held at High Wycombe Hurricane Room. 14 players took part in this event which used both 9 ball and 10 ball disciplines. Mark Parker's day began with a tricky match against James Buck. James is a new player to 9 ball after making the switch from snooker, James won his first competitive T9B event in Bristol a couple of weeks ago, so he would have been hoping for more of the same again. Parker would appear to be his bogey player though as Mark knocked Buck out of one half of the draw in Bristol and the same happened again today in the 9 ball side of the draw with Mark ‘The Essex Panther’ Parker winning by a 7v2 score line. Parker's next two matches would be against the same opponent… Ken Ng. The only differences between the two matches were, one match was 9 ball, the other was 10 ball and a different table was used. The results however were the same as Mark overcame Ken 7v4 twice. I had a chat with Ken after the match and he praised the way Mark played but was disappointed about his own performance saying, ‘I missed a few crucial balls which cost me important racks’ however it's clear that Ken is improving as a player and I’m sure it won’t be long until his results improve. Ken is keen to play in as many T9B events as he can as he knows tournament play is the best way to improve his game.

2013 World Cup of Pool - Star-Studded Line Up Revealed
2013 World Cup of Pool York Hall 5 Old Ford Road Bethnal Green London E2 9PJ UNITED KINGDOM www.matchroompool.com - World Cup of Pool - Facebook - Pro9 Chat www.seetickets.com - Buy WCOP Tickets Here

Click the image to view the larger poster - use "back" to return here. Full Player List Announced
WITH THE eighth running of the annual World Cup of Pool now a month away, the full line-up of players competing in the $250,000 event can be revealed. 32 pairs of players representing 31 countries will be coming to London from the 17th – 22nd September as the fabled pool and boxing venue of the York Hall plays host to one of the biggest events on the pool calendar.
15 of the world’s top 20 ranked players will be in attendance in what arguably is the event’s strongest line up yet. Among favourites for the title will be two-time World Cup winners China – represented by Li Hewen and Liu Haitao – and the highly dangerous Filipino pairing of Dennis Orcollo and Lee Vann Corteza.
Other notable duos from the Far East include the Chinese Taipei representatives, Ko Pin-yi and Chang Jung-lin, and Japan’s Naoyuki Oi and Lo Li-wen.
Mosconi Cup legend Johnny Archer will be partnered by Shane Van Boening as the USA look to repeat the feat of Shane and Rodney Morris in Rotterdam in 2008 by winning the trophy for the second time.
English hopes come in the shape of World No.1 Darren Appleton and Karl Boyes, as well as Daryl Peach and Chris Melling. Both will be fancied to make a big impact in London.
Nick van den Berg and Niels Feijen will be carrying orange hopes on their shoulders, while veteran Ralf Souquet will be partnered by young gun Dominic Jentsch as Germany attempt to win for the second time in three years.
Finally, can the Finnish pair of Mika Immonen and Petri Makkonen stage a repeat of their brilliant run to the title in Manila last year?
Matchroom Sport chairman Barry Hearn said, “Looking at the teams for this year’s event, I reckon that at least half of them are in with a shout if the balls roll their way.
“However, you’d have to look at the track record of China, the sheer class of the Filipinos, the pedigree of the United States and of course the two high-quality English teams.
“As we’ve seen in the past though, there are always unfancied sides that emerge from the pack and make serious challenges for the title. Either way, the World Cup of Pool will be a feast for cue sports fans and with the York Hall playing host, this one should be the best yet!”
Each session will consist of three matches and all tickets can be obtained from Matchroom Sport’s trusted ticketing partner

Sniegocki claimed his first Euro-Tour victory

Mateusz Sniegocki (POL) An all Polish clash in the final
In an exciting thriller, Mateusz Sniegocki (POL) overpowered Tomasz Kaplan (POL) with 8:6.
Both Polish players managed to win their semi-finals and made the final of the Dynamic Billard Bosnia & Hercegovina Open an all Polish affair. Kaplan defeated Stephan Cohen (nothing) by the skin of his teeth with 8:7. Cohen could have won the semi-final but he missed a 6-ball at 7:7. Sniegocki got the better of Daryl Peach (GBR) with 8:5 in the other semi-final. All spotlights were now on the two Polish players who would fight it out on the final table. Sniegocki got the far better start. He seemed to be much fitter than Kaplan who seemed to be a bit tired. After five racks the scoreboard showed a 4:1 lead for Sniegocki. Though Kaplan had a longer break between his semi-final and the final match, Sniegocki seemed to be more "in the zone". One of Kaplan's problems was his break shot. He somehow could not make a ball on the break anymore. Whenever he left a possible situation for Sniegocki, he got punished by Sniegocki either running out or allowing him with a pretty good safety position to the table. But Kaplan found his way back into the match. He took a time-out and refocussed. Suddenly, the distance between the two was shrunk to one rack only. Sniegocki was still leading 6:5 but he could feel Kaplan fighting his way back into the match. And when the pressure increased, Sniegocki also made mistakes. In the 12th rack, he tried to play a safety with the 1-ball but accidentally pocketed the 6-ball when doing so. The position of the balls was bad and according to the rules, Kaplan had the choice to either accepting the table or giving the shot back to Sniegocki. Kaplan put Sniegocki back to the table and forced another error onto him. Sniegocki committed the error and Kaplan had the chance to tie the match at 6:6. But instead of leveling the match, Kaplan missed an easy 5-ball and left it hanging over the pocket for Sniegocki. What a drama after that terrific comeback! That serious lapse brought Sniegocki on the hill with 7:5 and his own break shot coming up. As if there has not yet been enough drama between the two friends, Sniegocki scratched on his break shot and Kaplan came back to the table with ball in hand. He cleared the table to turn the score to 6:7. The tension could not have been higher at that point in time. The audience was captured by the high class performance of these two players. In the next rack, Kaplan broke and ended up dry with no ball being pocketed. All balls were nicely spread and Sniegocki had an easy shot at the 1-ball. That was the end for Kaplan. Sniegocki ran all balls and claimed his first Euro-Tour title, winning the final match with 8:6.

Unstoppable Daryl Peach wins... EVERYTHING!!!
It's GB 9 Ball Tour time again - and this time it's the most Southern of the tour events - the nearest tour stop to London of the whole season. Players from across the continent will be flying into Great Britain for the first event of its kind as the 2013 GB9 Southern Masters takes place at the stunning Radisson Blu Hotel at Stansted Airport.
It appears that nothing was going to stop Daryl Peach today, as he took the GB9 Main Event final and the GB9 World Pool Masters Qualifier with very one-sided results - both over the very capable Karl Boyes.
A full official report will appear here later in the week, but in the meantime, please enjoy these bonus photos, and we'll be uploading some videos as soon as possible too.

It’s true that hard work and perseverance do pay off.
Han Yu, who joined China’s national billiard team five years ago when she was just 16 years old, finally fulfilled the dream that she and her coaches knew would someday come. And what a way to do it. In front of several hundred people watching inside the Richgate Shopping Center in Shenyang, and an estimated audience of nearly 100 million people watching on China’s state television, Han completely outclassed Taiwan’s Lin Yuan Chun, 9-1, and won the 2013 WPA Women’s World 9-ball Championship.
Han’s victory means that Chinese players have won four out of the last five Women’s World 9-ball Championships. The win also cemented the fact that, but for a few exceptions, the epicentre of women’s 9-ball pool is well ensconced in China.
For the last few years, the talented Han has noticeably taken a bit of a back seat to the more high profile players on China’s national team, such as Liu Shasha, Fu Xiaofang, and Chen Siming. But that all ended today with a scorching performance against Lin. Han now sits atop the pool world. And with her talent and noticeable confidence, she can only be expected to achieve even more.
Interestingly Han very nearly didn’t even qualify for the knockout round of 32. She had to win a 9-8 squeaker just to get a spot in the round of 32. Once through, however, she was barely challenged, as she displayed a panache and bravery that couldn’t be touched.

9-Ball Champions: Susanne Wessel and Tom Storm Championship ended with 9-ball finals
The Dynamic Billard EPBF European Championships for Seniors and Ladies have come to and end. The last finals which were played in 9-ball brought titles for Susanne Wessel (GER) and Tom Storm (SWE).
Tom Storm defeated Johny Vanrijkel (BE) in the senior's final with 9:3. Storm was expected for a title earlier and it was his turn. Vanrijkel has played a solid and great tournament but in this final, he missed too many shots and made Storm's life rather easy. The 9:3 victory for Storm was completely deserved.
In the ladies' final, Susanne Wessel clearly eliminated Ann-Sofie Löfgren (SWE) with 6:1. Wessel took her second title this week while Löfgren collected her third medal at these Championships, two Silver and one Bronze.

From the ancient imperial city will rise the new queen of 9-ball.
That’s the intriguing scenario this week as the world’s best women pool players take center stage in the beautiful and historical city of Shenyang, China, as the 2013 WPA Women’s World 9-ball Championship gets underway with qualifiers August 6-8, and the main event August 9-12.
This is the 5th straight year that the Women’s World 9-ball Championship has taken place in Shenyang, which sits very near the border with North Korea. The city’s history goes back 2300 years and was once the very center of Chinese culture and society in the 1600’s, before Beijing emerged as the new capital. Today the bustling metropolis of nearly 8 million people is one of China’s key manufacturing hubs. The main attraction for visitors today is the sprawling grounds of the fascinating centuries old imperial palace.
Whether ancient or modern, it’s clear success and grandeur have long been at the very heart of Shenyang’s fabric. And thus the city offers the perfect environs to bring out the best among the greats of the game of women’s pool.
Defending champion Kelly Fisher of Great Britain achieved her greatest triumph here last year, when she won her very first World 9-ball championship with a brilliant run through a stacked field of the world’s best. Fisher’s victory, cemented with a 9-6 finals win over China’s number one, Fu Xiaofang, was a milestone on many levels for the affable Brit.
With the career defining win, Fisher not only vaulted to the top of the women’s game worldwide, she also stemmed the tide of what looked to be absolute domination by a freight train full of incredible Chinese talent.
The first three years in Shenyang had produced all home side winners. In 2009 16 year old Liu Shasha came out of nowhere to win the world title. The next year Fu Xiaofang fulfilled her promise of greatness by winning the title. Then in 2011, tiny and boyish looking unknown Bi Zhu Qing shocked everyone by storming through the field to take an unlikely world title.

Gold Medalists Barbara Bolfelli and Reiner Wirsbitzki Bolfelli and Wirsbitzki claimed the titles in 10-ball
The finals of the 10-ball individuals have been played. In the seniors division, Reiner Wirsbitzki (GER) took the Gold Medal. The title in the ladies division was snatched by Barbara Bolfelli (ITA).
The senior's final was tight and went along back and forth. Wirsbitzki's opponent Vegar Kristiansen (NOR) was a tough opposition. The German got momentum first and got a small two rack advantage over Kristiansen taking a 3:1 lead. Then it was Kristiansen who fired back and capitalized from Wirsbitzki's mistakes. But Kristiansen had two big problems in the final: He could not get a position on the 1-ball after his break shot and he could not get the pace of the table. Very often, Kristiansen played the cue ball at the wrong speed. However, he managed to get on top of Wirsbitzki with 5:3. In the 9th rack, he could have made it to the hill when Wirsbitzki missed a make-able 5-ball but he scratched when he got to the table. Wirsbitzki grew strong when he saw that Kristiansen could not finish the match. Now he went along and pocketed balls, winning rack after rack. In the end, Wirsbitzki won the match deservedly with 7:5 and claimed the first Gold Medal for Germany in this tournament.
The ladies final was not so tight. Bolfelli dealt with Ann-Sofie Löfgren from Sweden. After four racks Bolfelli was leading 3:1. Then, Löfgren got the chance to get a rack back from Bolfelli but she pocketed the 10-ball and scratched. That brought Bolfelli to a comfortable 4:1 lead. The 6th rack brought the decision. Löfgren didn't come up with any more resistance and finally had to give in to stronger Bolfelli.
The event will continue tomorrow with team and 8-ball competition.

Buck Takes away the Bucks at T9B National Series Event 4 in Bristol
James Buck may have come into this event as a underdog but he soon removed that tag. Buck is a regular snooker player who has competed in a few PTC’s and has won every trophy available for snooker in Bristol. After speaking with James yesterday it became clear that this guy needs a challenge and what better way to challenge yourself than competing in a high standard 9ball event with a £20 cue on just 5 hours total practice. James Buck’s event began with a tricky match up against local 9ball superstar Jon Davies. Jon has been off the scene for a about a year but you could still see his class, this match was a battle from start to finish as racks went one way and then the other. James keep his composure and his solid well practiced snooker cue action held up to the pressure as he sunk the final 9ball to win 7v5. This event was run as a 2x double chance comp therefore it wasn’t long before Buck was back in action and he converted another confidence boosting 7v5 win this time over Sean Dracup.
Other results from the first round saw Phil Wildman defeat Rattapol Sassmann 7v5 and Chris Parker 7v6 (from 5v1 down). Jon Davies after losing to Buck got back into winning form after a tight 7v6 victory over Tony Phillips. Clive Bentley won 7v3 against Yuk Chan. Sam Sherwood hit top gear as he won his first two matches 7v4 and 7v5 over Dominic Clements and Ken Ng respectively. Mark Parker's day also began with two wins as Mark looked to continue his fine current form, Parker dropped 7 racks across his first two matching as he advanced to round two 7v3 (Steven Cuthbert) and 7v4 (Rattapol Sassmann).
