Finland's Mika Immonen strikes again at The Wolf Den.

IMMONEN TOPS WINNER-TAKE-ALL $25,000 EVENT... AGAIN!

Last year, in the elated moment of passion after winning this event for the first time Mika Immonen said, “This is the toughest tournament in the world” referring to the winner-take-all pressure-cooker format of the Challenge Of Champions, “We may look cool out there, but the pressure is just incredible,” said Immonen “There’s no margin for error when every player is a champion. One shot missed and you can lose $25,000! Your nerves are off the chart during the entire tournament.”

Even that win last year couldn't have prepared him for the Sudden Death single rack shoot out with everything on the line against Filipino giant Francisco Bustamante - but prevail he did, as he broke, made a ball, and dished the rack, pocketing a cool $25,000 reward, and the impressive record of being the first player to retain the annual title in it's 20 year history.

This year's four man line-up was jam-packed with European talent, as England's Karl Boyes and Ralf Souquet from Germany made the selection for achieving superb results throughout the year. In the semi-finals Souquet was beaten in 2 straight sets to nil by Immonen, but Boyes took Bustamante all the way to the wire, Francisco winning the first set 5-0 and then Boyes taking the second 5-2, only for Francisco to break Karl's heart by winning the Sudden Death single rack decider.

Dennis Hatch - Team USA

Hatchetman Set for York Hall Mayhem!

DENNIS HATCH, the people’s champion who contributed so much to Team USA’s magnificent victory in Las Vegas last December, is today named as the second member of the American 2010 PartyCasino.com Mosconi Cup side.

Hatch, 39, who hails from Buffalo, New York, took the final spot on last year’s team after winning the internet fans vote from seven other players. ‘The Hatchetman’ went on to win four of his five matches, including two crucial singles match-ups against Niels Feijen, as the USA romped to an 11-7 win, their first victory in the ongoing series since 2005.

That earned Hatch the MVP trophy, but it was his fierce, emotion-charged team spirit that won the hearts of American pool fans.

“Words can't explain how excited I am, this is going to be awesome and I can’t wait,” said a delighted Hatch.

“I can’t wait to be playing in London at York Hall and it will be an experience I will never forget. The more stress and the more intimidating the atmosphere, the more I concentrate and grind. I will let nothing bother me and the madder I get the more I want to win!

The World's Finest in a €10,000 10-Ball Show Down

In a day of jam-packed full of nail-biting hill-hill deciding rack matches, the final of this event could go no other other way. And so it was when local Belgian favourite Serge Das, admittedly the underdog, met the Netherlands TV pool celebrity Niels Feijen in the ultimate match of this three day long tournament. Three days that climaxed with a fairy-tale ending for the industrious local here, winning the final rack in front of his home crown in a club where he is a very familiar figure.

The best of the best competed in this fierce battle over money and the prestigious title. Europe's best and the World's most feared players battled, but also local heroes from Benelux, Germany, Italy and Finland have their shot at the title and the big money. The 3 days of matches started with the field is being whittled down to the Last 32 players who then played Double Elimination until the Single Knock-Out format Quarter-Finals onwards.

Record-Breaking 14th Appearance for Scorpion

MATCHROOM SPORT are pleased to announce that Johnny Archer is the first member of Team USA for the forthcoming PartyCasino.com Mosconi Cup which takes place at the York Hall, East London from 9th to 12th December 2010.

Archer, 41, will be making his 14th appearance in the competition, a record for an American player and matched only by European stalwarts Ralf Souquet and Mika Immonen should they be selected for December’s event.

The Georgian is currently ranked No.1 on the BCA Points List and with the US Open the sole counting event for Mosconi Cup selections, Archer is in an unassailable position.

“It’s an honour to be selected for the Mosconi Cup again,” said a delighted Archer who was elected to the Hall of Fame this time last year.

“I am so pleased that I can't put it into words. After being on two losing teams in a row, winning last year was the best experience I have ever had at the Mosconi Cup.

Only the very best international players from across the globe have been invited to the exclusive 2010 Pattaya 9 Ball Invitational event - and they will face up to a field of talented qualifiers who have been battling all week to gain a spot in this prestigious tournament.

Along with the Filipino, Taiwanese, and Japanese superstars of pool, there's plenty of European interest in this event too - with Darren Appleton being among the top invited players, as well as former UK resident Bobby Lee Chenman, and Chris Melling has been awarded a wildcard entry. Qualified Europeans include France's Yannick Beaufils as well as Britain's Oliver Downey, Kevin Fortt and David Walsh, plus Ireland's Ruairi McCarroll, and Sweden is represented by Pontus Reece.

The draw for the final 32 players has been completed and Pro9 will be reporting news, results and publishing photos from the event all the way through to the final.

WYTECH MASTERS

REANNE Evans, the six-time women’s world snooker champion, continued her dominance of the £1,400 Wytech Masters with a 3-1 victory over Maria Catalano in this year’s final (on Saturday, September 25).

The queen of the women’s circuit has now won all four non-ranking Masters tournaments, which are traditional held on the eve of the new World Ladies Billiards & Snooker Association’s season.

In a repeat of the 2009 final, the two top seeds - both from Dudley, West Midlands - made it safely through a 20-strong field at the North East Derbyshire Snooker Centre, Clay Cross.

Maria Catalano, ranked second on the WLBSA circuit, took the first frame. Evans easily won a scrappy second and clinched the last two on the final colours.

Evans said: “Maria played really well, first frame. I didn’t pot a ball.”
