Hall of Famer Archer Gets 13th Mosconi Call Up
JOHNNY ARCHER, the 40 year-old veteran of 12 Mosconi Cups, gets his chance to help overturn a four year winless spell for America as he becomes the first player named for Team USA ahead of December’s PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
The Georgia-based Archer’s inclusion was announced by Matchroom Sport Chairman Barry Hearn via a DVD played out at the Marriott Hotel, Chesapeake, Virginia where Archer was inducted into the BCA Hall of Fame on Thursday night (22nd October).
"That was a great surprise! It certainly made my acceptance speech a little easier. The Mosconi Cup is such a big deal to me,” said Archer after the induction.
“I don't like leaving my fate in other people's hands. I've never had to be picked. I always qualified, so there was some concern that I might not make it this year.
“Barry Hearn is a great friend of pool and a great friend of mine. I'm excited to be on the team. We only get to play as a team one time a year, and it's a special feeling.”
With eight Mosconi victories under his belt and a 29 wins from 58 match record, Archer will need every ounce of his experience if his side are to derail a rampaging European side that has already named Ralf Souquet, Niels Feijen and Darren Appleton.
Commented Matchroom Sport’s Barry Hearn, “Johnny may or may not make the top two of the rankings, but he is a natural pick if the USA are about to get back to winning ways at the Mosconi Cup.

The closing stages of the 2009 US Open 9 Ball Championships in Chesapeake, Virginia are approaching rapidly, and Europe's best hopes are on the shoulders of three giants. Ralf Souquet, Imran Majid and Karl Boyes are through to the Quarter Final Stages, and most importantly, they are still without loss in this double elimination event.
Boyes' half of the draw is filled out with three American players, first he will meet Donnie Mills, and if Karl wins he will meet the winner of the match between experienced Mosconi Cup players Kim Davenport and Rodney Morris.
Majid and Souquet are at opposite ends of the other half of the draw and will meet in the next round if they beat their respective opponents. Souquet will be playing Chris Bartram while Majid will have the tough job of facing Filipino Lee Van Corteza.
Britain's Scott Higgins, Finland's Mika Immonen, and two players from the Netherlands, Huidji See and Niels Feijen, are still battling in the "one loss" side of the draw and are still in with a chance of taking the title although they will have to do it the hard way and battle through a plethora of pool talent coming their way from the winners side of the brackets including superstars like Earl Strickland. In the other half of the one loss side, Chris Melling has an almost impossible run that starts with US Ten Ball supremo Shane van Boening and then could be facing any one of the US giants in his side of the one loss bracket - take your pick from Archer or Deuell and even Filipino's Marlon Manalo or Jose Parica.
Vincent Facquet from France and Germany's Thorsten Hohmann have both finished in the cash after being eliminated from the event, both placing in the 25th/33rd position. Play will continue today and will conclude on Saturday evening.

 | GB9 Ball Tour announce schedule for 2010/Qualifiers |
GB9 Ball Tour PRESS RELEASE Great Britain's Official 9 Ball Tour www.gb9balltour.com
Tuesday 20 October 2009

GB 9 Ball Tour Season 3 (2010) Plans
2010 will be Season 3 for the GB 9 Ball Tour. The first 2 seasons have demonstrated an unprecedented demand for a professionally run 9 ball pool tour in Great Britain. GB9 brings together amateur enthusiasts and professional standard players alike, under the umbrella of a single not-for-profit players’ organisation, run by players for players. The GB 9 Ball Tour Committee of volunteers have worked hard to bring this to fruition and all GB9 members can reflect on the part they have played in making this a reality and giving GB9 the firm footing it requires, and deserves.

The 2009 US Open 9 Ball Championships are underway in Chesapeake, Virginia - and all eyes are on the European contingent starting their matches today. The Europeans, furnished with the generous courtesy of late starts so that they could fulfill their Euro Tour commitments in Portugal, have risen in profile over the last few years with wins in all the World Championship disciplines, and they will be hoping to wrest away another prestigious title for their continent this weekend.

The Euro Tour continued it's giant strides across the European continent, stopping this month in Porto, one of Portugal's largest and most beautiful coastal cities.
We were hoping for a good result from the British players and we weren't disappointed, as the Last 16 stages in Portugal were crammed full of the cream of British talent, and the live video stream provided FREE by the Euro Tour enabled a world-wide audience to watch an all British final between Imran Majid, and the eventual winner, Daryl Peach - another tremendous tournament for our Pro9'ers.

Serge Das from Belgium - 9 Ball Champion in Cyprus. DAS AND YILDIRIM TAKE TITLES IN CYPRUS
Serge Das was one of the few international class pool players to make the trip to Cyprus for this annual event, sponsored this year by Dr. Fazil Kucuk, but the highly ranked Belgian player was handsomely rewarded for his endeavours after taking the 9 Ball title and the 2,000 Euro top prize at the luxurious Salamis Bay Conti Resort.
"The hotel was very nice, all players got free hotel full board (they had a deal with the government I think), the weather was about 30 degrees Celsius every day so I was relaxing a lot at the swimming pool. Guvenc was my toughest opponent, I lost to him in the semi's of 8-Ball 7-6, and I played him in the final of 9-Ball."
Das's confidence levels were obviously high as he said, "I was preparing well, so I really wanted to play two finals, I nearly managed it, the field wasn't THAT big, but some good Turkish and Cyprus players and two good youngsters from Israel.
What will he do with the prize money? "I put everything on black in the casino... And lost it" - he jokes of course, but then reveals that it will come in very handy as he leaves for the Philippines around November 15th and he will, "spend it for my trip to the World 10-Ball Championships".
First though comes the EuroTour in Portugal, he leaves on Monday, and as usual he will be travelling with fellow Belgians Pascal Budo and Noël Bruynooghe - congratulations Serge, and good luck to you all in Portugal.

 | Captain Fantastic Lely Back at Euro Helm |

10-13 December 2009
Captain Fantastic Lely Back at Euro Helm
Matchroom Sport can announce that Alex Lely of Holland is returning in his role as captain of the European team for the forthcoming PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup which takes place at the MGM Grand Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada from December 10 – 13.
The Flying Dutchman took over the role for the first time in Malta last year when he guided his team to a record-breaking 11-5 victory over their American opponents.
“I knew I was in a good position to be honoured with the captaincy for this year’s event and I’m delighted that it is now official!” said Lely.
“There are still two months to go, but the vibes are already there. Also in Camp USA, on the forums that is, you can discern some strong American discomfort with the actual balance of power in the Mosconi Cup, but that is a good thing.
“The Mosconi Cup is like the Olympics of pool, where the elite players of two continents battle for a year’s reign. I say let things heat up, let there be big crowds for Team USA, let there be European pool hooligans, let it be the toughest battle in the history of the Cup!”
