Alex Pagulayan to defend 2008 PartyPoker.net World Pool Masters title
FOLLOWING on from the success of the 2008 event, the PartyPoker.net World Pool Masters will be returning to the historic Riviera Hotel and Casino as pool’s most prestigious invitational event gets underway from 8th to 10th May.
A total of 16 of the finest players from around the world will be competing in the event, which will be staged over three days during the annual BCAPL National 8 Ball Championships.
Promoted by Matchroom Sport, a world leader in televised pool, the PartyPoker.net World Pool Masters will be running for the 17th year consecutive year and its roll call of champions reads like an international who’s who of 9 ball.

14,000 Euros on offer as Biel welcomes you to the 4th 9-Ball Grand Prix Open
After much trepidation and a lot of work and many meetings, it is now official. The 9-Ball Grand Prix 2009, thanks to the financial success of the city of Biel has been granted and implemented. So from Thursday 2nd until Saturday 4th April 2009 the qualifications will commence, and on Sunday 5th April matches will be played on the Final Stages table at Le Pavillon.
It was no easy task. The money issue is always at the forefront in the implementation of a tournament of this size and format. It was thanks to the help of the City of Biel in the last few seconds but eventually the green light was given for the 4th Edition of the 9-Ball Grand Prix Open 2009.

Appleton continues good form in Reno 9 Ball
After winning the US Bar Table Championships 10 Ball title, Yorkshire's Darren Appleton is now continuing the week as he started, with good form and impressive results, and had already mentioned that he fancied his chances of the "All-Around" title at this event after that win. A clear indication of his high level of confidence at this event, and it seems to have come true as he nows sits proudly once again in the auspicious "hot-seat" - this time for the nine-ball event, after wins over other notable players including Rafael Martinez, and Shane Van Boening!
The final of the Nine-Ball Division will be played out at Friday 27 February 2009 from 7pm local - that's 3am in London, but despite the unsociable hours there's been no shortage of European supporters (Pro9'ers) watching Appleton's progress so far - and the viewing figures are impressive - tonight's matches are on the superior Pay-Per-View encoder with better picture quality and smoother connection. Once again in Spain but this time in the north, nice part of the country and not sweltering hot as it is in the south this time of year.
Ryanair fly to Santiago de Compostela which is the nearest airport.
Tournament starts on Friday 26th June so hopefully you could get morning flights, your return should be scheduled for the Monday as the final will be on Sunday evening, probably late.

Semi-Finalist Alan Coton had a good run at the Nottingham 9 Ball Open.

Established top UK Pro Phil Burford took the honours at the Nottingham 9 Ball Open this weekend, the pool tournament run by Kevin Simpson.
Burford's protagonist in the final, Chris Buckmaster, paid tribute to his opponent saying, "I have to say Phil was my toughest opponent of the day, although the final was not a classic, we both made quite a few mistakes and I found it hard to keep my focus after such a long day."
Buckmaster also complimented the organisers too, "The day was very enjoyable, Kev ran the tournament very well, which included a very tasty pie buffet which was a nice treat!"
The event followed the now traditional format of group stages followed by a single elimination round from the last 16 onwards, and all the entry fees were returned to the players as prize money.
