Appleton continues good form in Reno 9 Ball

After winning the US Bar Table Championships 10 Ball title, Yorkshire's Darren Appleton is now continuing the week as he started, with good form and impressive results, and had already mentioned that he fancied his chances of the "All-Around" title at this event after that win. A clear indication of his high level of confidence at this event, and it seems to have come true as he nows sits proudly once again in the auspicious "hot-seat" - this time for the nine-ball event, after wins over other notable players including Rafael Martinez, and Shane Van Boening!

The final of the Nine-Ball Division will be played out at Friday 27 February 2009 from 7pm local - that's 3am in London, but despite the unsociable hours there's been no shortage of European supporters (Pro9'ers) watching Appleton's progress so far - and the viewing figures are impressive - tonight's matches are on the superior Pay-Per-View encoder with better picture quality and smoother connection. Enjoy!!!

The new 2009 United States Bar Table 10-Ball Champion - Darren Appleton

Darren Appleton ploughed through the field in Reno, the majority of his matches were quite one-sided in his favour, never conceding more than three racks to his opponents until the later stages when he met Mark Tadd who took five racks off him in this race-to-seven tournament played on 7 foot tables.

Canadian Stan Tourangeau managed to take four racks from the reigning World Ten Ball Champ, but his toughest match came as expected from Shane Van Boening, taking him to the hill. Appleton, who was without loss, eventually managed to send Van Boening to the losers side of the brackets where the South Dakota Kid was eliminated by Glenn Atwell. Meanwhile "Daz" made short work of Adam Behnke (3rd place $1,500) in the semi-finals to take what the Americans call "the hot-seat" - a particularly strong position where a no-loss finalist is playing a one-loss opponent who has to beat you twice to win, effectively affording you two "lives".

Appleton didn't need it and resoundingly won the final match against Glenn Atwell with a 7-1 scoreline despite Atwell, who collected $2,550 for 2nd place, not really doing anything wrong apart from a bad roll or two, but Appleton was just in control from start to finish and looked the more able finalist throughout the match.

The action didn't stop there for the pool playing pride of Pontefract - as soon as the $4,100 cheque had been presented at the table, he was called to his next match - in the 9 ball division!!!
