Lee Chenman squeaks into the 2007 World Pool Championships
The World Pool Championship Araneta Coliseum Quezon City Metro Manila Philippines www.matchroomsport.com www.worldpoolchampionship.com
3-11 November 2007

CHENMAN IN FOR TROY FRANK
LEE CHENMAN, the Hong Kong based potter, has been granted a spot in the 128-man starting line-up of the forthcoming Philippines World Pool Championship following the withdrawal of American player Troy Frank.
Chenman, 28, finished in fourth place in the APBU Category 8 qualifying event in Kuala Lumpur last month but due to the pressure for places, only the top three players were guaranteed spots on the day.
However, the agreement between Matchroom Sport and the APBU was that if further players withdrew from the tournament, then the fourth placed player would gain entry.

THE STUFF OF DREAMS… AGAIN - by Ted Lerner
The World Pool Championship Araneta Coliseum Quezon City Metro Manila Philippines www.matchroomsport.com www.hey-joe.net www.tedlerner.com
3-11 November 2007
THROUGHOUT the 2007 Philippines World Pool Championship, Pro9'ers will be able to read the thoughts of talented journalist and commentator Ted Lerner.
Ted will be providing this website with his take on everything that is happening in and around the Araneta Coliseum during the biggest pool event of the year.
Having lived in the Philippines since 1995, Ted has covered pool as a writer and TV commentator for many years. He will be reporting several times weekly from Manila up to and through this year's Philippines World Pool Championship which runs from November 3rd-11th.
Manila, Philippines -- It was the stuff of wild and surreal dreams of every professional pool player. To play for their sport’s top honor in a colorful, exotic land where the game has roots stretching back over a century, and is firmly entrenched in the national psyche; where their typically anonymous careers were cast aside, and they were feted like Hollywood celebrities by a warm and hospitable people; where the high level of drama and competition brought on an atmosphere akin to what pool would look like if it were played in the Olympics.
Sure Cardiff, Wales got the job done for five years. And two years in Taiwan provided an exotic, if somewhat utilitarian, Asian flavor. But when the World Pool Championship finally made its first ever stop in the Philippines last November, the pool world had never seen anything like it. Barry Hearn, the flamboyant chairman of Matchroom Sport, and the promoter of the World Pool Championship, put it best when he said: “Having the World Pool Championship in the Philippines is like bringing the sport back to where it all began.”

Chichester 9 Ball League Popular 9 Ball League revamps and relaunches!
The Chichester 9 Ball League is the longest continually running American 9 Ball League in the UK and possibly the most successful too.
Never a club to rest on it's laurels, it has decided to revamp it's entry fee structure to attract even more new players to the fold, so players outside the top 40 ranked players will now pay a mere £1 for the first week and then £2 for the second, increasing by £1 per week until the full normal price is reached... Seems like an excellent idea!

£2000 guaranteed prize money in Scottish 9 Ball Championships
Last year Pat Holtz overcame the largest field ever to play in a SAPPA event to take the 2006 Carlsberg Scottish 9-Ball Championships with an enthralling 10-9 win over Scott Gillespie in the final, after a total of 96 players came to play at the popular Styx American Pool Bar venue in Kirkcaldy.
This year he wasn't as happy with his performance after bowing out at the Quarter Final stage and the title was taken by unranked Scott Higgins after he dealt England's Karl Boyes an 11-3 mauling.

Sunday 14 October 2007
2007 APN National Champion Jonathan Mathers in action during the final in Solihull. Nothing else Mathers as Jonathan lasts the distance.
The superb Rileys Solihull club was the outstanding venue for the final APN National Tournament and naturally the free entry event with a whopping £1,500 prize fund was well attended as expected.
It was a superb day of action but the cream rose to the top as reliably as the sun rises in the sky, and after a very long day of battle, Jonathan Mathers and Craig Osborne were the two stratospheric finalists doing battle into the small hours.
Both players showed signs of fatigue that would be affecting their game and concentration, but this is the stuff that sorts the men from the boys, and these two know the score as well as any other seasoned pool player.
The final was a close affair that could have gone either way as the scores of these two top handicapped players rose "neck and neck", until towards the end of the match the most lengthy run of sheer bad luck (or poor play) rode roughshod over Osborne's fortunes as he repeatedly snookered himself shot after shot after shot.
His frustration was clear to see as he thumped the table with his fist as yet another unbelievable "self hook" materialises as the balls slow to a stop after his latest shot.
Mathers didn't need chances like that, but he wasn't going to waste them either, as he meticulously planned and methodically executed each shot, skillfully maintaining his emotions and concentration to take the title of APN National Champion 2007.

Dynamite too dangerous for Disher at The £10,000 DvD Cash Match
The £10,000 DvD Cash Match - Dynamite vs Disher 2007 Midland Snooker Club 3a Bilston Key Industrial Estate Oxford Street Bilston West Midlands WV14 7DW Tel: 01902 493641
7pm, Saturday 13th October 2007
L to R: Midland Snooker Club proprietor Jella, and DVD Match Promoter Simon D'Vali both congratulate Darren Appleton on a fine win. Darren Appleton earns victory at fabulous Midland Snooker Club
In what turned out be very a very one-sided affair, Darren Appleton has beaten Tommy Donlon with a comprehensive 30-16 scoreline proving the majority of pundits correct with their predictions for this match result.
Although no one could deny the heroic list of titles accumulated by Donlon over the years, titles announced by MC for the event Simon D'Vali, there was little of the flair and talent that earned them on show from Donlon this night.
Afterwards Appleton admitted his own game was merely adequate, sufficient to get him across the line and his victory was due to making less mistakes and staying focused. This is typically modest of the Yorkshireman who pulled off a spectacular full cue jump, among other beautiful skill shots, in the first five racks alone.
On reading this brief summation you might be thinking this was a low key event... But nothing could be further from the truth... The crowd was big, the venue was fantastic, everyone had some "side action" even if it was just the final score sweepstake, and best of all the atmosphere was thrilling.
