Jasmin Ouschan celebrates her WPA World Number 1 Ranking
What does it take to become the World Number 1? Jasmin Ouschan was destined for it.
Born in Austria in January 1986, her parents owned a billiard club in Klagenfurt for 20 years and she still remembers her first pool experience at the age of three. It was difficult for her to reach the pool tables, so she had her own tiny table at home, but all she ever wanted was to play on the bigger tables. At the age of six her parents spotted she had a special talent so she got her own trainer, and he is still her trainer and coach today.
Pro9 are pleased to print an exclusive interview with Jasmin, about how she started in pool, how she practices and her hopes for the future.

Dear Players,
Firstly, please allow me this opportunity to apologise for the delay in publishing the calendar for the 2006 – 2007 season. The full calendar for the BPPPA Main Tour, the BPPPA Youth Tour and the BWPPA Wheelchair Tour is attached to this mail. I fully understand many of you have been keen to receive it earlier so you can plan ahead and manage your diaries.
When receiving official statements one expects to read both good news and bad. This will be no exception. Whilst I have plenty of good news to reveal we have very recently received a setback, which I will inform you about first.
The main delay in publishing the calendar is that we have been working, and still are, on acquiring suitable venues for our tournaments. The main issue concerning the calendar is that Riley’s have withdrawn sponsorship funding for the BPPPA Main Tour, the BPPPA Youth Tour and the BWPPA Wheelchair Tour. I am fully aware that Riley’s have been undertaking a cost cutting exercise nationwide but I will not however speculate on their financial stability, as this would at this time be simple conjecture. I will however leave this to the artistic licence of the press until I hear further from Riley’s. What I can say is that we have enjoyed three good years and built a strong relationship with Riley’s and I thank them for their valuable support in the past.

The 8-Ball Battle of Scandinavia

The tournament will probably be one of the biggest 8-ball tournaments ever organised in Scandinavia, and with Bwin.com as partner for this tournament there will be at least 30 matches broadcast live at Bwin.com. It is free to watch the matches, and Bwin.com also offers live betting on those matches, and you can also bet on who you think will win the tournament.
As a player you are guaranteed more matches than normal in Open tournaments in Europe, because of the choice of group stages in the first round. Every player has some bad matches sometimes, but with group stages you can still proceed to the next round if you manage to turn bad rolls into good rolls, even if you start with some bad results.

Filipino Ronnie Alcano wins 2006 World Pool Championship
Ronato Alcano is the 2006 Philippines World Pool Champion following a runaway 17-11 victory over Germany’s Ralf Souquet at the PICC in Manila on Sunday night.
The 34 year from Calamba, Laguna, Philippines went into the final as an underdog against the 1996 champion but never looked in trouble as he lead throughout the alternate break race-to-17 final.
He now becomes the third Filipino following Efren Reyes in 1999 and Alex Pagulayan in 2004 to hold pool’s most coveted title.
Alcano takes the trophy, the title and with it the $100,000 top prize which will surely change his life forever.
There were scenes of bedlam in the venue when Alcano completed a 1/9 combination for glory and the thousand or so people in the arena and watching on the balcony erupted in a show of national pride as one of their own became champion.

Europe vs Asia Final at WPC
The final of the 2006 Philippines World Pool Championship will be a Europe v Asia affair as 1996 Champion Ralf Souquet of Germany faces Filipino Ronnie ‘Calamba’ Alcano at the PICC in a match that starts at 16.00 local time.
Both players had to battle through two matches today. Alcano dumped out tournament favourite Wu Chia-ching, the defending champion in the afternoon and then looked good disposing of surprise semi-finalist Li He-wen of China.

Wu on Collision Course for WPC No.2
Scotsman Pat Holtz’s fantastic journey through the 2006 Philippines World Pool Championship ended today as he crashed out of the tournament, an 11-6 loser at the hands of defending champion Wu Chia-ching of Taiwan .
The 17 year-old, who shot to fame winning this tournament in Kaohsiung last year, looked at his devastating best and it will take a player at the top of his game to stop him this year.
The unheralded Holtz had been one of the surprise packages of the tournament but was not at his best as he faced Wu on the main TV table.
