Sunday 15 June 2015
Click the image to view the large photograph - use "back" to return here. Seville Conquers T9B UK 10 Ball Championships 2015
Sunday 14th June was the date selected for this year’s T9B UK Championships. This event has been run annually for the last three years and this year’s event was held at High Wycombe Hurricane Room. Previous winners of the T9B UK 10Ball Championships are Mark Gray 2013 and Courtney Symons 2014 but who would be victorious in this prestigious event this year?
Total9Ball received a total of 42 entries for this prestigious event, travelling from all over the country to compete. T9B were delighted to see so many players wanted the title of UK 10Ball Champion, therefore the format was changed to allow more than the usual 32 players to compete. T9B opted for a one round double elimination format followed by a last 32 knockout stage. This guaranteed all players would be involved in a minimum of two matches. This was the first time Total9Ball have tired this format with an increased field of players and as expected there were a few teething problems but T9B have learnt a lot from this event and we now feel we can make everything run a lot better next time around which is very exciting as it means we can accept more players to each event next season which will substantially improve the prize fund and the wow factor of winning an event.
T9B are not only gaining more and more regular players but also constantly gaining the support from new players. At this event we welcomed six new players - Dean Selvey, GJ Oyangoren, Jan Ibrahim, Jimmy Walsh, Satyan Vadher and Shady K Eddin. We thank you for your support, we also hope you enjoyed your first T9B experience and look forward to seeing you all again at future events.
Thanks to Dynamic Billard for sponsoring this event.

FINLAND’S PETRI MAKKONEN landed his maiden Euro Tour title in Germany at the weekend and as he crashed the European Mosconi Cup rankings and put himself in the frame for a December trip to Las Vegas. The 27 year-old Finn came through a stellar field at Baunatal and defeated Konrad Juszczyszyn of Poland in the championship match to claim the 20 ranking points. The win put Makkonen into second place on the Euro Tour ranking list, three points behind Niels Feijen. He also moved into third position on the Combined ranking list, a single point behind joint leaders Marcus Chamat and David Alcaide. There are three separate ranking lists in operation – the first comprised of a five event Euro Tour series; the second a four event ‘World’ series and the last a combined ranking of the two. Makkonen has been making steady progress and was a winner of the 2012 World Cup of Pool with compatriot Mika Immonen. The same pairing won bronze medals at last year’s event in the UK.

Click the image to view the large photograph - use "back" to return here. Another victory for Jasmin Ouschan
With a convincing 7:3 victory over Katarzyna Wesolowska (POL), Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) has secured another title for her collection, the victory at the Dynamic Billard German Women Open tournament in the Stadthalle in Baunatal, Germany.
The final match was dominated by Ouschan alone. Her break was good and only in the beginning of the final match, Wesolowska seemed to put up some resistance against Ouschan. The more the match went along, the clearer Ouschan’s will to win was while Wesolowska’s energy seemed to have lost her somewhere along the way. It seemed as if Wesolowska had lost all her power in the tough semi-final, where she had to face Diana Khodjaeva (BEL). Although being up 6:2 already, Wesolowska could not close the book on Khodjaeva. The Belgian struggled and pulled back rack after rack, partly because of Wesolowska’s mistakes, partly because of her own strong play. At 6:6, two balls were remaining on the table and Khodjaeva provided a decent safety position for Wesolowska. Katarzyna Wesolowska had to go for the 7-ball over one rail. She went for the shot, pocketed it and got perfect position for the 9-ball. That brought her into the final match. On the other side, Ouschan more or less destroyed a so far strong playing Nataliya Seroshtan (RUS) with a 7:2 result. So Jasmin Ouschan had more or less smooth sailing into the final match.
Ouschan did not lose one match throughout the whole event. Most matches, she was dominant from start to the end. Whenever she had to struggle, it seemed that this was only in the first few racks of the respective match. Then, there appeared to be a point in time when Ouschan kind of „switched into overdrive mode“ and simply ran away from her opponents.
„It is true, this happened quite some times during this tournament“, stated Ouschan after the final match in a interview. „I have been practicing my mental side and I think it is an advantage I have over my opponents“. When asked about her future focus, she replied: „My next goal is the China Open which will be played in about a month from now. This tournament was a prefect preparation for me. things really worked out my way and I am confident to get a good result in China.“

Click the image to view the large photograph - use "back" to return here. Makkonen wins his first Euro-Tour tournament
Petri Makkonen (FIN) has just won his first Euro-Tour tournament of his career, winning the final match with a convincing 9:3 result over Konrad Juszczysyn (POL).
Juszczysyn had the tougher fight in the semi-final match the round before. While Makkonen overcame Florian Hammer (GER) quite easily with 9:4, Juszczysyn needed the full distance to oust former World Champion Karl Boyes (GBR) from the Dynamic Billard German Open. In the final match, Juszczysyn’s break shot did not work at all for him. He seemed not to be able to find a proper mean against Makkonen who almost steamrolled him. Makkonen played as confident as he did all day long. His first match in the single elimination was a 9:8 over Pijus Labutis (LIT) last night. Today, things went better for him. He defeated Nick van den Berg (NED) 9:5, Denis Grabe (EST) 9:7, then Florian Hammer 9:4 and finally Konrad Juszczysyn with 9:3 even. „I think my break shot worked better today than yesterday“, stated Makkonen in an interview after the final match. „This game is all about the break shot nowadays. Mine worked fine today and if that will continue, I’m sure to be back to the winne r’s podium for some more tournaments in the future“, added Makkonen.

This weekend Mezz Cues Baltic Pool League second stage was held in Tallinn, Estonia. The name of the game was 10-Ball and the venue was yet again the beautiful Baribal Pool Club. Similarly to last year, the men's division was dominated by Estonian Denis Grabe and the women and old-boys division ended with a win for Latvias Anna Prisjaznuka.
First medal for UK in men's division
Denis Grabe reaching the final was not much of a surprise anymore, but Lewis Calcutt from the UK reaching the final was first ever medal for the UK in the history of Baltic Pool League. Although Calcutt showed some good pool over the weekend reaching the final with a donut in the semi final over Sami Hämäläinen (FIN) Grabe was too much for him as he had to congratulate Grabe for a solid 7:3 victory. On his way to the final Grabe left nothing to luck and finished his semi final with a secure 7:1 win over his fellow countryman Mark Mägi.
Latvia and Lithuania still dominate women and old-boys division
The final of the women and old-boys division turned out to be quite one sided as well, as Prisjaznuka won over Agne Jaruśauskaite with a score of 6:3. In her semi final Jaruśauskaite got the better of Estonian Jana Sinilnikova with the same score. Before winning the final Prisjaznuka had to beat by a score 6:4 another Lithuanian Simona Miliśauskaite.
It must be noted that Agne Jarusauskaite has participated in the men's division as well and is currently eighth. The overall ranking is lead by Denis Grabe, second is Mark Mägi and third Vitalijs Śpaks. Agne Jaruśauskaite leads the women's and old-boys division and right on her heels are Anna Prisjaznuka and Tana Lace.
