Appleton and Boyes make up the Euro five for Blackpool

WITH JUST OVER five weeks until the start of the 21st annual PartyPoker Mosconi Cup, Darren Appleton and Karl Boyes are named as the final two members of the European side charged with defending the title at the Tower Circus, Blackpool from 1st to 4th December.

With seven previous Mosconi Cup appearances between them including six on the winning side, both players bring plenty to the table as Team Europe look towards their fifth consecutive win in the annual Europe v America 9 ball battle.

Appleton, who made his debut in 2009 as Europe crashed to defeat, has been an ever-present in the side since, racking up a 52% win percentage from 29 matches.

Commented Appleton, “I’m so excited to be picked! The last few days have been so stressful and I’ve not slept very well. I've been thinking about it every minute of the day since the US Open and I feel the Mosconi Cup has taken over my life - it's that big and that exciting.

A Free Online Pool Game with an Event-Oriented Social Network

Celeris has released Virtual Pool 4 Online, a free 3D online pool game and an event-oriented social network with tournaments, ladders, a calendar of events, and a pool lobby where you can chat with your friends. The gaming platform lets you play 28 games including 8-Ball, 9-Ball, Snooker, Billiards, and Pub Pool.

The games let players compete in tournaments or play with friends. Tournaments run continuously, and include single and double-elimination formats. To ensure a high level of competition for all players from novice to champion, some tournaments are restricted to players of a certain skill rating, and others have handicapping.

The Virtual Pool 4 Online website is a social network that keeps players connected with friends and events. In addition to player profiles, friends lists, tournament sign-ups, a calendar of upcoming events, rankings, and statistics information, players can also view tournament brackets and real-time match scores. Players can find friends and enter their pool rooms with a single click. Players can even upload great shots to share with other players.

Star-studded field set for Nottingham

WITH THE 22nd annual PartyPoker World Pool Masters set for the Portland Centre in Nottingham from Friday 14th to Sunday 16th November, promoters Matchroom Sport have assembled a star-studded field from around the world to contest one of the sport’s most prestigious events.

16 of the best pool players in the world will be gathered in the heart of England to try and add their name to the pantheon of all-time greats who have held the Masters trophy aloft.

There is a $66,000 prize fund at stake and World Champions, US Open Champions, European Champions as well as the very best players from all four corners of the globe will be vying for the Masters crown.

Defending champion and reigning WPA World 9 Ball winner Niels Feijen will be back to defend his crown. Also aiming for his first ever Masters title is Shane Van Boening, who just made history as he won his third consecutive US Open title and fourth overall.

Other WPA World Champions competing are four legends of the game; Thorsten Hohmann, Francisco Bustamante, Alex Pagulayan and Mika Immonen.

Home hopes will rest with four players who have all had great seasons one way or another. Darren Appleton is the most titled player in UK pool history with two US Opens as well as two WPA World Championships on his resume. Karl Boyes, who along with Appleton won the recent World Cup of Pool, is a former WPA World 8 Ball Champion.

Craig The Wizard of Os. Borne Takes another Total9Ball title

T9B presented Event 3 of the Sunday Golden Road to St. Albans Series at the Snooker & Pool Lounge at Wickford in Essex on Sunday 19th October.

With agreement of the players T9B decided to change the format of this event to our very popular 2x format to create more value for the players.

After entries were all paid in, the draw was completed by Kev Kelleher, Kev hasn't been seen at a 9ball event for a while but it was great to have him back playing. Kev's first match couldn't have been much harder as he drew himself against the in-form Tom Staveley, Kev only managed to take the one rack as the match ended 7v1 to Staveley. Paul McMichael made an impressive start to the event held at his local practice club beating Tashunka Schultz 7-5. Paul did well to comeback in this match from behind.

The most dangerous player as always and the player no one wants to draw 'Craig Osborne' also had a winning start, beating Joe Granville 7-4 it was nice to see Craig giving Joe some tips after the match to help improve his game.

Another player we haven't seen for a long time is Terry Arnold... Welcome back Terry. So who would Arnold be playing in his first event back? The answer was The Essexpanther Mark Parker in both sides of the draw. Mark eased to a 7-1 win in their first match as Terry struggled making the switch back to 9-Ball from snooker and 8-ball. He did however begin playing well in the second half of the draw as he got revenge in their second match, Mark battling back from 6-2 to 6-6 but Terry compiled a nice clearance to take the match.

Thanks to Dynamic Billard for sponsoring this event.

Shane Van Boening wins Record Third Consecutive US Open Title

What can you say about Shane's third consecutive US Open title that hasn't already been said. His victory over Filipino Dennis Orcullo was near flawless, despite trailing virtually the entire match, Van Boening kept the scores close enough to stay in touch and take the lead when it counted. This is the second time he has won this double-elimination tournament without loss - the same as last year. Simply stunning... Look in the dictionary for awesome and you'll soon see his name.

Words fail me - the field is one of the strongest in the world, and he wins again and again, without a sign of pressure or stress, no emotions on show at all, just an unstoppable will to win.

Liu Shasha wins her second WPA Women's World 9-ball Championship with a thrilling 9-8 win over Chen Siming.

Not only did the diminutive and feisty 21 year old win her second WPA Women’s World 9-ball Championship tonight, but it was the second time in the last 15 months that she defeated rival and fellow national team member Chen Siming by one rack in a major tournament final in China.

In what amounted to a repeat of the China Open final in Shanghai in June of 2013, albeit with much more riding on the line, Liu and Chen battled toe to toe in a classic for the biggest prize in women’s pool. For 90 minutes practically nothing stood between these two greats of the women’s game, until the last 20 minutes of the match when Liu, displaying the heart of a hungry lion, won the last three racks and eked out the win and the world championship, 9-8.

Liu’s amazing victory tonight made her only the fourth woman in the 23 year history of the Women’s World 9-ball Championship to win the event twice. She first captured pool glory in 2009 at the age of just 16 years old, stunning legend Karen Corr in the northeastern Chinese city of Shenyang.

Liu’s win this time certainly had to be much more satisfying, however, as five years ago she was a freewheeling teenager who could play without a care in the world. Now, as a Chinese national team member playing under the pressure of high expectation, and the intense glare of the massive Chinese media spotlight, the 21 year old Liu can finally say she has conquered the world and officially arrived at the mountain top of women’s pool.

BALTIC POOL LEAGUE FINISHED QUALIFICATION ROUNDS IN KAUNAS

The final qualification event for the Baltic Pool League 2014 main tournament was held the last weekend in a gorgeous ENTRY Pool Club in Kaunas, Lithuania. On the contrary to the last stage this time the last 8 in the men's division was quite colorful and won by Vladislav Les. However similarly to last event the women and oldboys bracket was dominated yet again by Anna Prisjaźnuka. The game format was this time 8-Ball.

Men's division international last eight

Surprisingly there were no Latvian players in the last eight and actually it is the first time this season the event to finish like that. Nevertheless having five different nations (Belarus, England, Estonia, Finland and Lithuania) representatives out of six possible in the quarter finals is a perfect culmination to the qualification rounds.
