As we enter into pool season, this tournament was to iron out the wrinkles and brush off the cobwebs. With a good strong field competing for the cash prizes, this had all the hallmarks of an upset, but the players didn't need much encouragement.
Paul Canavan, Stephen Johnston, Gary Millen, Mark McDonald and Kevin McKee showing their experience in the first round with convincing wins over solid opponents.

The final stages of the BPPPA's 2006 Iwan Simonis Manchester Classic will be filmed by Channel M television. Cameras will be there between 5pm and 8pm on Sunday evening and the cameras will be panning around the club so anyone present should be on the box!
The footage will be broadcast in the Sports section after Channel M's primetime news, anchored by Andy Crane. That's good news for people wanting to gain exposure for their sponsors and I'm sure it would be appreciated if you would all support this new interest in our sport.
Just a reminder that Ted will be present on the Friday night between 6pm-9pm at Riley's Stretford, so anyone arriving early can pre-register to speed up the draw on the Saturday.
Channel M is on Sky 203 and terrestrial Channel 8.
