Saturday 14th December was the date for the last Total9ball Amateur Series event of 2013. 33 players made an appearance to support this fantastic series. St Albans Hurricane room was again the venue and as always they did their utmost to offer the best facilities by re-clothing all the tables, it really was a luxury for the players, a few players mentioned in their opinion these tables were playing the fastest they have ever played on.
Total9ball were impressed to see so many new faces at this event mixed with the regular players and with a great atmosphere in the club we knew this was going to be a brilliant event. Matches began just after 10am after the draw was completed by Jon Butterworth.

EVENT REPORT: 2013 GB9 FESTIVAL OF POOL
THE 2013 GB9 FESTIVAL OF POOL Park Inn by Radisson Hotel Forgegate Telford Centre Shropshire TF3 4NA United Kingdom www.gb9balltour.com - Facebook - Twitter
Friday 29 November - Sunday 8 December 2013
Phil Burford - Winner of the 2013 British Grand Prix Click the image to view the larger photograph - use "back" to return here. LOCOMOTIVE POWERS TO SECOND WIN OF THE SEASON
The final two professional events of the GB9 season have come to their conclusions with Phil Burford, Daryl Peach and Mick Hill taking the spoils at the inaugural GB9 Festival of Pool.
The best players both from across Great Britain and the continent came together to showcase some of the best pool talent in the world all at one gathering. With Europe claiming an emphatic victory over the USA in the recently completed Mosconi Cup, the British Grand Prix and the UK Open went hand in hand to offer competition of the highest standard to the best players Europe has to offer.
The two finalists in the British Grand Prix had both contested finals earlier in the season - Phil Burford who won the season's opening event in thrilling fashion against Ralf Souquet, and Mark Gray who was runner up in the Northern Masters to the now two-time Mosconi Cup player Karl Boyes. Burford began his campaign against local competition; Kevin Uzzell putting up a brave fight before succumbing 9-5 to the Locomotive. This put Burford one win away from the single-elimination last 32 stage, but a resilient Ian McCormick stood in his way. Another tour battle followed, but Burford saw past the Ulsterman 9-7 to go through the winners’ side undefeated. Burford turned on the juice for his next match against Finlay Laing, whitewashing the Newmarket potter 9-0. However, Burford's first victim, Kevin Uzzell, wasn't done just yet. Having negotiated his way out of the one-loss side of the draw, he returned to face his nemesis once again. The only difference this time was one rack, with Burford securing his second victory over Uzzell 9-6 to set up a match with Tommy Donlon next.

SIR BARRY HEARN
Click the image to view the larger photograph - use "back" to return here. This photograph courtesy of ©Jean-Philippe Parmentier / Matchroomsport.com "SIR" BARRY HEARN
As we approach the end of the year wouldn’t it be nice to see that pop up in the Queen’s New Year Honours List.
Are Barry’s achievements at least equal to those of Sir Cameron McIntosh or Sir Chris Hoy.
To coincide with Mosconi Cup XX he was inducted into the BCA Hall of Fame.
But so far he is a Prophet Wiithout Honour in his Own Land.
Now I am not suggesting that he gets knighted for his services to pool. That is never going to happen.
But add to that other sports he has enhanced both for their status and the status of the participants.
Where do I start – Snooker, Boxing, Golf and Soccer are the front runners but Ten Pin Bowling, Clay Pigeon, Bushido, Fishing and Table Tennis feature strongly in his portfolio. Don’t mention Poker.
He also heads up a number of organisation that support charitable causes.
Some may argue that he does these things for money. But are Cats or Les Miserables in theatres all over the World any less money orientated. Sir Elton John does not play the piano only for fun.
His tax contribution (after deductions , of course) make a considerable revenue stream for the Exchequer. That seems to be a mitigating factor when titles are bestowed.
Several other sportsmen are the recipients of lesser honours such as the MBE or the OBE. Barry deserves more than that. In fact why don’t we skip straight through and make him Lord Hearn of Romford. Then he might shake up the House of Lords.
Anybody can put forward a nomination so I will start the ball roling on the official documentation.
If you want to support this then post your name in the forum.

Ina Kaplan wins Women’s Euro Tour
In a very single-sided final match, Ina Kaplan (GER) defeated Eyllul Kibaroglu (TUR) with 6:0.
The Women’s Euro-Tour was full of surprises this time. Up until the single elimination, everything went more or less „according to plan“. The highest ranked players like Mazhirina, Kaplan, Roos, Christiansen, Ouschan all were present in the single elimination stage of the event. Down to number nine of the Euro-Tour rankings, every single player has made it in the round.
Then suddenly things started to happen. Unheralded Jennifer Vietz (GER) ousted Nr. 1 seed Ana Mazhirina (RUS) with 6:4. That was the first big shock of the day. Kristina Zlateva (BUL) eliminated Nr. 5 Ine Helvik (NOR) with a string performance with 6:3. The biggest upset happened in the match between Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) and Caroline Roos (SWE). The Austrian, who just got back from the USA, did not at all play up to her usual performance. She committed many mistakes and was punished for them by Roos. Caroline Roos performed rock solid and rightfully won that match with 6:3. Only number 2 ranked player, Ina Kaplan stayed right on track, defeating Ana Gradisnik (SLO) with 6:1.

Buckley makes history retaining Universities 9 Ball title
The Universities Pool Council 9 Ball Championships Park Inn by Radisson Hotel Forgegate Telford Centre Shropshire TF3 4NA United Kingdom www.upc-pool.org.uk - livestreaming

Benji Buckley - Universities Pool Council 9 Ball Singles Champion. Click the image to view the larger photograph - use "back" to return here. Buckley makes history retaining Universities 9 Ball title
Benji Buckley finished top of the heap of the 90+ players taking part in the Universities Pool Council 9 Ball Championships - four days of events featuring a series of disciplines from the standard 9 Ball Singles and 9 Ball Teams, to the more exotic "Crash" knockout and other flyers.
Buckley met German import Bernd Gentner in the final. Bernd had just been through the wringer winning his semi-final match after a thrilling hill-hill affair, and whilst he still looked fresh, it was Buckley who ruled the final match from start to finish.
Benji's achievement is even more noteworthy, as he is the first player to ever win the individual's event twice, and therefore also the only player to retain the title in consecutive years.
For winning, Buckley will receive a year's entry into the GB 9 Ball Tour, and in a reversal of fate, things could become very interesting next year, as Phil Burford starts university, and has expressed a keen interest to play in this event.
The action continues on Sunday with the Team event... Bring it on!

Nick van den Berg wins Dynamic Billard Treviso Open and Euro-Tour 2013
In an intense final match, Nick van den Berg (NED) defeated Phil Burford (GBR) 8:5.
The final match was determined by safety play in the beginning. After seven racks, van den Berg was leading 4:3 when Burford had an open layout in front of him. He got to the 10-ball and ran a bit out of position. However, he managed to pocket the 10-ball but shockingly scratched with the cue ball. Instead of tying the match at 4:4, suddenly he found himself trailing 3:5. Van den Berg made use of that situation and carried the advantage through until he was on the hill, leading 7:5. It was again Burford at the table then. He ran out of position for the 8-ball. He tried hard and left a very tough shot for van den Berg. „El Niño“ aimed at the ball and fired it in. He then pocketed the remaining two balls to wear the crown at the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open 2013. Van den Berg did not only take the title, he also won the Euro-Tour series 2013 by finishing as ranked number 1 player.
„It feels great to win the tournament“, stated van den Berg after the final, „but it feels even greater to be number 1 at the end of the year.“
„All in all I’m quite happy with my second place here in Treviso. Hats off to Nick, he played a very good match against me and deserved the victory“, added Burford.

TEAM EUROPE completed their finest ever PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup win, as they beat the Americans 11-2, the second biggest winning margin in the 20 year history of the event. Needing three more points going into the third day, they reeled off the first three matches to hand out a humiliating defeat to the USA.
It was Europe’s fourth win on the trot and their sixth in seven years. With a star-packed team, many felt that this was the Americans best chance in a while but after losing the first day 5-0, the writing was on the wall. America won two points on Tuesday but all in all it was a lame performance that will leave many questions.
It was Niels Feijen, partnered by Mika Immonen, who downed the winning 9 ball and the final point of this year’s event gave the Dutchman his second Most Valuable Player trophy in three years.
European captain, Johan Ruijsink was thrilled with his fifth victory at the helm; “I am very, very proud of my team. They played like lions all week, they came out of the starting blocks really heavy on the Americans and I don’t think they recovered. I am really sorry for my buddy Johnny Archer because it is his first time as a captain in the modern age and I think he deserved better than that. He is a great captain, a great motivator, and I feel sorry for him because 11-2 doesn’t reflect the difference in quality.”
