Ina Kaplan wins Women’s Euro Tour

In a very single-sided final match, Ina Kaplan (GER) defeated Eyllul Kibaroglu (TUR) with 6:0.

The Women’s Euro-Tour was full of surprises this time. Up until the single elimination, everything went more or less „according to plan“. The highest ranked players like Mazhirina, Kaplan, Roos, Christiansen, Ouschan all were present in the single elimination stage of the event. Down to number nine of the Euro-Tour rankings, every single player has made it in the round.

Then suddenly things started to happen. Unheralded Jennifer Vietz (GER) ousted Nr. 1 seed Ana Mazhirina (RUS) with 6:4. That was the first big shock of the day. Kristina Zlateva (BUL) eliminated Nr. 5 Ine Helvik (NOR) with a string performance with 6:3. The biggest upset happened in the match between Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) and Caroline Roos (SWE). The Austrian, who just got back from the USA, did not at all play up to her usual performance. She committed many mistakes and was punished for them by Roos. Caroline Roos performed rock solid and rightfully won that match with 6:3. Only number 2 ranked player, Ina Kaplan stayed right on track, defeating Ana Gradisnik (SLO) with 6:1.

The quarter-final matches brought more action. Caroline Roos continued her quest and defeated Jasmin Michel (GER) with the toughest result possible, 6:5. Kibaroglu ousted Vietz and Kaplan sneaked past Louise Furberg from Sweden with 6:5 as well. Young Kristina Zlateva from Bulgaria caused a stir at this event, sending Christiansen home with 6:5.

In the semis, Zlateva had no chance against Kibaroglu and had to accept a justified 3:6 defeat. Kaplan ended Roos’ hopes, so it boiled down to a final between Kaplan and Kibaroglu.

Given all these tight results, one would have expected are hard fought final match. But again, the event had its own rhythm. Kaplan found hers while Kibaroglu had nothing to confront her with. Kaplan won the event convincingly. However, she still remains 2nd on the Euro-Tour ranking, still trailing with only 10 points to Mazhirina.
