 | McDermott raises money for Triple Neg Breast Cancer Foundation |

McDermott raises money for Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation
MENOMONEE FALLS, WI (November 21, 2013) – McDermott Cue Mfg. LLC is a leading manufacturer and worldwide distributor of pool cues, performance shafts and billiard accessories. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, McDermott raised $800 for the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation.
During the month of October, a portion of the proceeds from select pink cues, cases and apparel items were donated to support the fight against breast cancer. With the help of their supporters, McDermott was able to raise $800 for the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation. For more information on the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation and how you can help, please visit www.tnbcfoundation.org.
Understanding Triple Negative Breast Cancer
It is now commonly understood that breast cancer is not one form of cancer, but many different "subtypes" of cancer.
These subtypes of breast cancer are generally diagnosed based upon the presence, or lack of, three "receptors" known to fuel most breast cancers: estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2). The most successful treatments for breast cancer target these receptors.
Unfortunately, none of these receptors are found in women with triple negative breast cancer. In other words, a triple negative breast cancer diagnosis means that the offending tumor is estrogen receptor-negative, progesterone receptor-negative and HER2-negative, thus giving rise to the name "triple negative breast cancer." On a positive note, this type of breast cancer is typically responsive to chemotherapy. Because of its triple negative status, however, triple negative tumors generally do not respond to receptor targeted treatments. Depending on the stage of its diagnosis, triple negative breast cancer can be particularly aggressive, and more likely to recur than other subtypes of breast cancer.

This weekend was held Olybet Baltic Pool League 2013 Final event that was held in the cosy Hiiu Baribal pool hall that is located in Tallinn, Estonia. In the final 32 best men and 14 best women players from this years ranking participated for the title of the best pool player in the Baltics. The game was 10-ball and there surely was a surprise. Mens division was won by 13 year old Mark Mägi
This years men's division surely offered a surprise as the title was won by Estonian Mark Mägi who is only 13 years old. The youngster's talent blossomed when he got his first test in the semi final against the current leader of the Baltic Pool Leaugue so far Denis Grabe (Team OlyBet) from Estonia. The nerve wrecking game was won with a score of 13:11 by Mägi and he proceeded to the final in which he had to beat Latvian athlete Peteris Ermansons (Team OlyBet). The Latvian reached the final comfortably beating Lithuanian athlete Paulius Tamkevićius by a score of 13:7. The final match started with the supremacy of Mägi when he took a what seemed to be a secure 8:2 lead. However the Latvian took a time out and did not give up as he fought till the end and tied the match at 9:9. Probably the effort left it's mark and Ermansons had to submit to the youngster Mägi's win of this year's event with a score 13:9.

The biggest story in the pool world this year has surely been the recall of EARL STRICKLAND to the American side at December’s PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup. Without doubt the most controversial and according to the stats, greatest player in the 20 year history of the event, Strickland last appeared in action in Malta in 2008 when the USA suffered their heaviest-ever defeat as they went down 11-5 to a rampant European side.
Since then, the 53 year-old from North Carolina has continued to ply his trade and over the past year has hit a vintage vein of form culminating in an imperious win at Turning Stone in September. Strickland returns then as part of the ‘dream team’ of Mosconi legends that includes Johnny Archer, Dennis Hatch, Rodney Morris and Shane Van Boening.
It will be Strickland’s 14th appearance in the transatlantic team tussle and with a 65% win rate (41 points from 63 matches) he is the most successful player in the history of the event.
To celebrate his return to Mosconi Cup action, Sky Sports have produced a memorable one hour documentary entitled ‘The Strickland Story’ which debuts on Sky Sports 3 at 9.00pm on the evening Sunday 1st December.

Bumper Crowd for Live Moneymatch Action from Morley International
A bumper crowd packed into Morley International Saturday morning to witness some thrilling action between 4 local players.
On the main TV table there was plenty of Drama as recent Blue Dolphin Friday night flyer winner Ryan Driver from Huddersfield looked very out of sorts early doors against converted snooker player, Michael Whaley of Halifax. Michael stormed into an 8-2 lead with some mesmerising potting, showing the promise which has seen him record numerous 147 breaks at the large table game. Ryan however, wasn’t in any mood to lie down and roll over, and showed real grit and determination to battle back and eventually go 13-12 in front. This is where Ryan's luck ran out however, with Michael once again showing his potting ability to go 14-13 up, and on the hill. Ryan was in full control, but an in off allowed Michael a sniff of a chance, which he duly took and leaving with the spoils, a cool £700.
On the side table, the bulk of the crowd had turned up to watch local hero and Morley regular Darren Strang take on Sam Redfern from Dewsbury. Sam was in front most of the game after the halfway point, and despite a rally towards the end from Darren, he saw the match out 12-10 and took home the £600 pot.

Ralf Souquet (GER) took the title at the Dynamic Billard Castel Brando Open in Cison di Valmarino, Italy, with a clear 9:1 victory in the final match over Daniele Corrieri (ITA).
The suspense level of the previous rounds could not be kept in the final match. The person who was mostly responsible for that was Ralf Souquet. His performance in the final match was simply too strong. He overpowered Daniele Corrieri and made it look as if these two players were coming from different worlds. With the precision of a surgeon, „The Kaiser“ performed unbelievably strong after having been absent at the recent two Euro-Tour events. He is a well deserved Champion at this Euro-Tour event.
Through his 3rd place, Albin Ouschan (AUT) will take the lead of the Euro-Tour rankings after the event.

St Albans Hurricane Room again played host for the second event of the Total9ball Amateur Series 2013/14. Players from all over the country competed for crucial ranking points towards the Mid and End of Series Grand Finals. In total 28 players battled for the T9B glassware at this event held on the 3rd November 2013, again Total9ball was pleased to see many new faces including James Dickel and Jamie Murray from Scotland and Luke O’ Connell from Cambridge as well as appreciated continued support from our regular players.
Matches kicked off at 10am after the draw was completed by Ramesh Gokhul. Luke Rollison was drawn against friends of his in both sides of the draw, Rollison hasn’t been playing much 9ball recently and his day didn’t start well as he was defeated by Scott Foley 7v5. Luke's opposition in the other half of the draw wasn’t any easier as Rich Main stepped up to try and end his day, this time Rollison got it right but only by the smallest of margins 7v6.
Mark Singleton having made the long journey from Rotherham enjoyed some good early wins 7v4 and 7v5 over tough opposition... Dave Evans and Chris Buckmaster respectively. Ramesh Gokhul only recently returned from a few months away in the USA, was again playing some impressive pool and two 7v5 (Chris Bryant and Mike Stanley) victories booked him a double place in round two. T9B founder Phil Wildman kicked his tournament off with two wins as well defeating Mark Hughes 7v5 and Neil Margossian 7v5. Wayne Rooke used this event as a come back event after months away from pool, he ran Terry Kearney close but ended up second best 7v5, Wayne however looked a lot stronger in his second match as he took out James Dickel of Scotland 7v3.
