Bumper Crowd for Live Moneymatch Action from Morley International

A bumper crowd packed into Morley International Saturday morning to witness some thrilling action between 4 local players.

On the main TV table there was plenty of Drama as recent Blue Dolphin Friday night flyer winner Ryan Driver from Huddersfield looked very out of sorts early doors against converted snooker player, Michael Whaley of Halifax. Michael stormed into an 8-2 lead with some mesmerising potting, showing the promise which has seen him record numerous 147 breaks at the large table game. Ryan however, wasn’t in any mood to lie down and roll over, and showed real grit and determination to battle back and eventually go 13-12 in front. This is where Ryan's luck ran out however, with Michael once again showing his potting ability to go 14-13 up, and on the hill. Ryan was in full control, but an in off allowed Michael a sniff of a chance, which he duly took and leaving with the spoils, a cool £700.

On the side table, the bulk of the crowd had turned up to watch local hero and Morley regular Darren Strang take on Sam Redfern from Dewsbury. Sam was in front most of the game after the halfway point, and despite a rally towards the end from Darren, he saw the match out 12-10 and took home the £600 pot.

At 3pm, we had a potential cracker, with Morley born ex Junior World No.1 Sam Hirst taking on Matt Schofield from Todmorden. Matt raced into an early lead, and never looked back. Sam looked very much out of sorts on the day as Matt strolled into a 16-6 lead, making no mistakes with the chances which Sam was leaving him. Sam reeled off 3 frames in a row to go 16-9, and give his army of fans a glimmer of hope, but Matt stopped the mini-comeback by sealing the victory with an excellent long double in the final frame. He claimed the match 18 frames to 9, and looked ecstatic counting his £1000 winnings. After the match, Matt had this to say – 'The table was fantastic. I felt great out there today. Im glad Sam had an off day because I know on his day he can beat the very best, so im well happy with that win'.

The final game of the day saw another Huddersfield player, Shane Byrne taking on St Helens' Ste Crosbie. Shane went into a 2-0 lead, but after a ding-thingy safety battle in frame 3 which lasted nearly 30 minutes, Ste claimed the frame. Ste's travelling fans will have been hoping that this could prove a catalyst for Ste to start producing his best pool…..however it was the complete opposite as he seemed to struggle with the fast pace of the table. Shane, however, had no such problems. Happily taking out every chance (some of them extremely easy it must be said) afforded him by Ste's careless play. Shane raced into an unassailable 13-2 lead. Shane eventually ran out a 15-3 winner, with Ste having no complaints after the game – 'Im not sure what happened there tonight. I struggled with the pace of the table and left far too many easy chances for Shane. All I could do was hope he didn’t take a few of them, but he took every one so fair play to him. I think some more practice is needed before im back playing for cash'
Shane had this to say – 'That is by far the best table ive played on. I know Ste didn’t have the best of days, but im very happy with how I played and happy to be taking home the cash. Can't wait to come back'
