Left to right: Joshua Filler, Veronika Ivanovskaia and Daniel Tangudd

Surprising results in the finals

While the favored player won the pupil's division, the winners in the other division were a bit of a surprise.

The pupil's division was dominated by Joshua Filler (GER). He was never really endangered and made his way to the title with a superior performance. His opponent in the final match, Oliver Szolnoki (HUN) did his best to challenge Filler and make his life as hard as possible but in in the end he had to let Filler take the crown with a 6:4 victory in the final. In the girl's match, the favored player got beaten. Kamila Khodjaeva (BEL) who has already snatched the crown in 10-ball this week, played a close match with Veronika Ivanovskaia (GER). Both girls did not want to show any weaknesses but the pressure was on for both of them. Some small mistakes were committed on both sides but Ivanovskaia managed to get back on track first. She got back in the zone and made use of the chances that Khodjaeva gave her. A missed ball in the eighth rack opened the doors for Ivanovskaia to claim her first title at European Championships with 5:3 over Khodjaeva.

In the junior's division, Seroshtan was trailing to Tangudd from the beginning of the match. Tangudd played rock solid and won the match clearly and deservedly with 7:3.

Liam Monk - Total9ball Amateur Series Grand Final Winner 2013

Grand Final Time For Total 9 Ball Amateurs

So it was the biggest event of the T9B amateur calendar on Saturday, The Amateur Series Grand Finals. 5 qualifying events have come and gone, it was now time for the show piece event. Hurricane Room in St Albans again played host to 24 of the best amateur players that this country has to offer, we also had in my opinion the best stream team in UK pool, Lee Rigby and Ian Sunderland, so it was sure to be a fantastic event.

Beautiful glass trophies were available to the Winner and Runner Up both engraved in memory of the late Larry Hinrichs.

The draw was completed by the players at around 9.30am. The players names were placed in three pots as this event was seeded, The top eight players on the T9B Amateur Series ranking list were seeded in order on one side of the draw and random placed in the other. The other 16 qualifiers had to play preliminary matches to qualify to complete against the top eight.

At the beginning of the event players knew that the jackpot for the day which is achieved by one player winning both halves of the draw was at an impressive 1000, the prize money began at 100 in the Quarter Finals, it was 150 for any losing Semi-Finalists, 300 for the Runner Up and 550 for the Winner, The 150 roll up pot was added to the Winners and Runners up prize money to give the Jackpot amount.

Matches began at 10am. There was a tense atmosphere with all players desperate to do themselves justice and come away with a pocket full of cash and the title of Total9ball Amateur Series Grand Final winner 2013.

Schedule Announced

WITH THE 2013 World Cup of Pool set for 17-22 September at the York Hall, London, the draw for first round matches as well as the schedule of play has been made. Defending champions and No.1 seeds Finland Mika Immonen and Petri Makkonen get proceedings underway on the Tuesday afternoon with an enticing match against Austrian siblings Albin and Jasmin Ouschan.

There are plenty of intriguing games as the seeded nations do battle with some of the pool worlds underdogs as the teams chase a share of the $250,000 prize fund.

There are 16 race-to-seven first round matches taking place in all, and the opening evening sees England B (Peach and Melling), Holland (Niels Feijen and Nick van den Berg) and the Filipino pairing of Lee Vann Corteza and Dennis Orcollo all in action.

Other highlight matches include the American pair of Shane Van Boening and Johnny Archer taking on the rising stars of Kuwait on Wednesday evening and then the heavily supported Team India (Raj Hundal and Amar Kang) going up against Alex Pagulayan and John Morra of Canada.

The England A team of Darren Appleton and Karl Boyes appear on the evening of Thursday 19th when they take on the always dangerous Indonesians.

Commented Matchroom Sport Chairman Barry Hearn, Weve made a huge effort to bring all the big names of world pool to London to contest what is one of the biggest tournaments in the world.

Home support will play a massive part for the two England teams but Im sure fans from across Europe will come to the most atmospheric cue sports venue to support their teams.

Out of the 32 teams Id say at least half of them could go all the way to the final and Im sure there will be some thrilling matches along the way.

PREVIEW: 2013 GB9 SOUTHERN MASTERS

Players from across the continent will be flying into Great Britain for the first event of its kind as the 2013 GB9 Southern Masters takes place at the stunning Radisson Blu Hotel at Stansted Airport.

As one of the busiest airports in Europe, Stansted deals with flights from across Europe all day every day. Starting on Friday 9th August, many of Europe's finest cueists will arrive at the airport and walk down the short covered walkway to the fantastic Radisson BLU hotel, as it plays hosts to the fourth GB9 event of the 2013 season.

One country especially taking the plunge with this event is Denmark who, at the most recent count, will be bringing no less than SEVEN players across to the British shores to compete in what may fast become a flagship European event. One of those within the Danish contingent is young Andreas Madsen the reigning European Junior 9-ball champion. GB9 caught up with him as he gears up to play in his first event on what many consider the toughest national pool tour on the planet.

Teams (l to r) Kaczmarek, Witkowksi, Batkowski, and Kivela, Huttunen, Virrankoski

Poland's juniors on track

The Polish junior team has defeated team Finland with 2:0. The Polish were the favored team and they lived up to their expectations. Of course, Sebastian Batkowski (POL) was playing straight pool.

The newly crowned European Champion hammered Aargo Virrankoski (FIN) with 100:27. At about the same time, Pawel Kaczmarek (POL) won his 9-ball match against Jesse Waltteri Huttunen (FIN) with 8:6. That turned the score 2:0 for Poland. No more chance for Finland to get a foot back in the door. The 8-ball match between Maciej Witkowski (POL) and Jesse Kivela (FIN) was halted at 5:5.

The match between Turkish North Cyprus and Bulgaria turned out to be a heartbreaker. Anton Zlatev (BUL) whitewashed Huseyin Alnar (TNC) with 7:0 in 8-ball. It was Berk Mehmetcik (TNC) who leveled the match at 1:1 when he won his straight pool over Spasian Spasov (BUL) with 100:92. The decision had to come in the 9-ball match between Mehmetali Szgen (TNC) and Martin Todorov (BUL). That match went up and down for both players. Todorov took early leads with 3:1 and 5:3 in a race to 8. Then Szgen turned the tide and pulled game after game back from Todorov, even getting a 6:5 advantage over the Bulgarian. But then the match turned again. Todorov came up with some stunning pool and took the next three racks in a row, winning the 9-ball with 8:6. That sealed the match with a 2:1 victory for team Bulgaria.

Other notable results include junior's team Bosnia & Hercegovina falling to the sharp blade of team Norway with 2:1. The Dutch juniors had to give in to team Sweden with 2:1 though Sweden only played with two contestants.

England B is Peach and Melling

WITH THE home nation allowed two teams in the forthcoming World Cup of Pool, the second England side will comprise 2007 World Pool Champion Daryl Peach and Chris Melling, last years Mosconi Cup MVP.

They will be joining England A - Darren Appleton and Karl Boyes in the 32 team draw for the $250,000 team event which is now entering its eighth year. Taking place for the first time in England, the World Cup will be staged at the York Hall in London, where the Mosconi Cup has taken place on eight raucous occasions.

Commented Daryl Peach, It's great to be back where I belong, in the World Cup of Pool, especially being alongside Chris Melling.

Peach, who played in the inaugural World Cup with Steve Davis in 2006, came close in 2008 with Mark Gray when they finished runners-up to the USA in Rotterdam.

Both Chris and I have our eyes firmly set on going one step further this year. There are lots of other great teams with great partnerships too, but being on home soil, at the legendary York Hall will separate the men from the boys! Lets get it on!

Mark Parker wins the Essex Open at his home club - and he's the Runner Up too!

Parker becomes T9B Double Winner

Well first of all, what a fantastic event that was hosted in Basildon. The club facilities were very good and the manager of the club was really pleased to have a Total9ball event in his venue and have invited us back. The club had 8 Sams 9ball tables all of which were in very good condition and were all brushed in the morning by the club manager. It's clear Basildon in London is a hot spot for players and we expect when T9B returns... We could attract lots more players.

Yesterday's event used the 2x Double Chance format and also there was a King Of The Hill (1 rack shoot-out) side event.

The draw was completed by Craig Osborne and matches began shortly after 10.30am. The first match drawn saw home players Mark Parker and Ernie Mulryne go at it. It was clear right from the start of the event that Mark was going to be a hard player to beat in his home practice venue. Parker recorded a 7v4 win. Mark 'The Essex Panther' Parker in the other half of the draw showed no remorse as he defeated Rattapol Sassmann 7v1.

Other results in round one saw Courtney Symons get one up on Phil Wildman winning 7v3, there is a possibility Symons and Wildman may clash again at some point during next Saturday's Amateur Series Grand Finals. Craig Osborne's day began with two 7v1 victories over Ernie Mulryne and Geoff Windeatt. Craig only dropped 10 racks across his first 6 matches and looked to be again setting the standard very high, could he be stopped? Richard Twomey's day also started well as he won matches 7v1 against traveling companion Terry Arnold and 7v3 over local talent Rob Donkin.
