WPBL Press Release - WPBL Duped By Las Vegas Contractor

Over the past few months the World Professional Billiard League has experienced several setbacks arising from construction delays and the acquisition of city permits. Both the WPBL staff and its players have tried their best to remain patient and understanding, regardless of obvious frustrations and unease.

With only two weeks away from completion of the TV arena, we sensed something was awry and hired an investigator. Unfortunately the results were not pleasant. As it turns out, the construction crew had their business license revoked shortly after being contracted, yet opted not to disclose this information. Their license was revoked due to fraud. Without that license they were working at the WPBL studio illegally, and unable to secure the necessary permits. The past three months of delays were intentional on their part, in attempt to stall until they could somehow secure a permit. All money paid to the construction crew for permits was pocketed, and talk of successfully acquired permits was entirely false.

Due to fraud and numerous illegal activities, the construction crew has now been fired, and will face pending legal action from the WPBL, as well as the state of Nevada. The proper permits are now being acquired through a qualified city official, and a new contractor is being sought to finish construction. More information should be known to us later this week, such as the status of the venue permits, and the duration of any additional delays.

Sweden extends a warm welcome to European players

In 2006 Marcus Chamat won this event, and after years of trying, he finally claimed the elusive 2nd victory at his home tournament, taking the Interpool Open title in 2012.

The roll-call of entrants for the Interpool Open is ever growing and full of illustrious names including in recent years, Tony Drago, Niels Feijen, Daryl Peach, Mika Immonen, Dennis Grabe, Torbjorn Blomdahl, and Ewa Mataya Lawrence, but the list of champions is a more modest affair.

Rodney Morris took the title in 2011. and Marcus has now won it twice. Raj Hundal has done the same double but in consecutive years, but Ralf Souquet has had the most success at this event with a hat-trick of wins - but who will take the trophy in 2013?

Well, it could be you! An open invitation is extended to all players to enter the 2013 event once again hosted by Marcus Chamat. This is always a popular event, and as well as celebrity players it always features some interesting "Special Event" extras... Good luck!

Selby beats Robertson in Betfair Masters Final

Mark Selby is the 2013 Betfair Masters champion

Mark Selby has won snooker's biggest invitational tournament of the year and pocketed a cool £175,000 for his efforts, along with the 2013 Betfair Masters title and trophy, after putting in a superb performance in the final with a 10-6 win over Australia's Neil Robertson.

Selby led the scoring in the final match from start to finish and never looked troubled, despite a gallant rally by Robertson to take the score to 8-6.

World No.1, Selby, was nearly eliminated by Graeme Dott during their semi-final match as the Scot took a commanding lead, but in a late night tussle that lasted 5 hours, Selby staged an unlikely come-back to book his place in the final.

Graeme Dott and Shaun Murphy take £40,000 each for the semi-final finishes, while Neil Robertson bagged an £85,000 consolation prize for the runner up spot!

WPBL Press Release - Official Rules and Player Profiles

Season starts February 2013

WPBL Press Release - Official Rules

The World Professional Billiard League has finalized and released the official rules that will be used in the inaugural 2013 Bonus Ball season. Development of the rules was a culmination of input from the top international players, including world champions and hall of famers.

The game of Bonus Ball has undergone numerous changes since its inception, most notably at recent WPBL training camps. The final rulebook has taken both fans and players into consideration, simplifying the rules while making the game more challenging to play.

Minnesota Outlaw Captain Thorsten Hohmann who was significantly involved in the refinement of the rules stated “Quite honestly speaking, at first the rules of Bonus Ball seem a bit overwhelming, because a lot of it is very new to the pool world. Three pockets for each player, the sequence, target and continuation shots, and the break and shoot, but once you play a few games it starts to make sense. Every rule has a reason for existence. It’s actually a very well thought out game. The possibilities are countless. We will see a lot of creativity, suspense and emotions during the season and I can’t wait to see the WPBL in full motion!”

Larry Chiborak President and CEO of the WPBL originally created Bonus Ball in Canada, where the game was primarily played until recent years. Chiborak said “We have taken a lot of time perfecting this game, the evolution of Bonus Ball has been in the works for 20 years and with the creation of the WPBL, it will now be exposed to an international audience.”

The official rules page is now posted on the WPBL website and can be found at: wpbl.tv/rules.php

Deadline for entries: 22 January 2013

Professional 9-ball pool will be played in Shropshire for the very first time as the historic sixth season of the GB 9 Ball Tour commences with the 2013 Midlands Classic in Telford.

Players both past and present will know that the tour is always looking forward to new ventures and exciting ways to keep the tour fresh and competitive. Much like the move to hotel venues in 2010, this season brings with it an equally vast number of changes designed to help the tour members make the most of their GB9 experience, whether they are an amateur player looking to improve their game or a professional player looking to challenge for every title going. These changes will help breathe a new lease of life into the tour as it strives to prove itself once again as the most challenging and competitive pool tour in the world.

Tour Chairperson Andy Warden is excited by what lies ahead for the tour. “2013 is going to be an exciting year for GB9. It is fantastic to see so many of the European players getting behind the tour and of course it is a great opportunity for all of the UK based players to experience playing these sorts of players without having to travel to a EuroTour event. I am look forward to seeing faces old and new at the first event in just a few weeks’ time”.

Nelson and Wildman Share the spoils

Total9ball kicked off it's busy 2013 calendar of events at St Albans yesterday. The original plan was a Mosconi style format but it was soon clear that a January event was going to be hard to fill. It was decided that the original format will be used later in the year and T9B would revert to the popular 2x format. This unique format works even with a small field of players offering fantastic value and a player can still leave the club with some large prize money.

12 players entered the event, even with such a small field it was still a great day of pool for the players and with the top prize for the jackpot win of £330 it was still well worth giving maximum effort at becoming the first undefeated player.

Matches were race to 8 racks, with handicaps being added to this. There were some top players on show with Dave Nelson making the trip from Yorkshire, T9B founder Phil Wildman and ever consistent Ramesh Gokhul among the favourites. It was also great to have Alex Kontaroudis back in a Total9ball event, Alex used to be a regular player at T9B with some success but work commitments meant he had to move back to his home country of Greece.
