625 Jobs and 78 Clubs Saved as New Investment Announced

Jobs and Clubs Saved as New Investment Announced for Rileys Sports Bars Ltd
More than 600 jobs and 78 clubs at Rileys Sports Bars across the UK have been secured after the company has been bought from Administration by private investors.
The move safeguards snooker, pool and sports bars around the country and will allow the name, Rileys, one of the best known in leisure and sport in Britain, to continue on the high street.
Regrettably 146 jobs will be lost (44 full-time and 102 part-time) and 25 clubs will cease trading as part of the Administration process which is overseen by KPMG.
Maurice Kelly, CEO, Rileys Sports Bars Ltd said: “We are desperately sorry that we could not take everyone with us but we’ve worked hard to rescue the majority of our clubs, saving 625 jobs.

WPBL Season Format and Teams Announced
World Professional Billiard League Bonus Ball Studio Las Vegas Nevada USA www.wpbl.tv www.playbonusball.com
Season starts Thursday 3 January 2013
WPBL Season Format and Teams Announced
The WPBL will consist of twelve teams in two conferences, North and South. While the majority of the teams are located in major cities throughout the United States, Canada will compete with its own team, the Toronto Blue Sharks. The league also boasts a strong international presence, including superstars Thorsten Hohmann, Darren Appleton, Mika Immonen, Warren Kiamco, and Raj Hundal.
The locations have been chosen based on several factors, mainly the popularity of billiards in the surrounding communities, as well as the place of residence for the league's key players.
Each team is comprised of 4 players: a captain, two regulars, and an alternate.

T9B The Double Chance Amateur/Rookie Series 2012 The St Albans Hurricane Room Unit 8 Verulam Industrial Estate 224 London Road St Albans Hertfordshire AL1 1JF www.hurricaneroom.co.uk www.t9b.co.uk - Live scoring
Saturday 17 November 2012
Mark Parker celebrates his victory with girlfriend Kim at the T9B event in St Albans. Parker Triumphs as favourites are toppled
Mark Parker achieved his best Total9ball result to date by winning the final qualifying event for the Amateur 2X Series held at St Albans.
There was another very strong field in attendance with players such as Courtney Symons, Gary Bullocke, Micheal Rhodes and Ramesh Gokhul all hoping to take home the beautiful glass trophy and score last minute ranking points towards the Grand Finals to be held on 1st December.
Matches began at around 10.30 at the Hurricane Room with the first round producing a few unexpected results... Jonathan Vaughan from Neath achieved a fantastic 7v1 against one of the UK's top amateur players Michael Rhodes, Gareth Esprit defeated Ramesh Gokhul 7v6 and Lionel Brown beat in-form Wayne Rooke. Mark Parker began his tournament with mixed fortunes, a 7-6 victory against Phil Wildman in one half or the draw but unfortunately was on the wrong side of a 7v4 scoreline in the other half.
Round Two saw Lionel Brown produce another good performance with a 7v4 win against off the table friend Gareth Esprit to line up a match with Mark Parker as Mark defeated Dave McCarthy 7v5 on the table next door. Gary Bullocke, a pre tournament favourite and overall ranking leader, won 7v4 over Mark Hughes and looked fresh as a daisy as he stayed the night in the car park of the club... Don't worry he was in his mobile home. Other results in this round included a great 7v5 win for Shakz Islam over Jonathan Vaughan, Ramesh Gokhul and new player John Egan both converted 7v5 wins against Wayne Rooke and Mark Hughes respectively.

Always one of the last major ranking events of the year, after several days of preliminary qualifying, the main event field of 128 players that enter the main stage of the Japan Open has been determined.
Each entrant to this double elimination, race-to-9 round has paid $440 to compete in this, the 45th annual 10 ball event in Japan, and Europe's early risers are in for a treat with free live video being streamed direct from the venue. As the field narrows to the Last 64, the event becomes a cut-throat single elimination race-to-11 format and with a $100,000 prize fund, you can be sure of some tense action.
European nations are well represented at this event, and it's refreshing to see it in this day and age, but at this tournament all players are required to wear shirts and waistcoats - it's nice to see a touch of class coming from the Japanese organisers.
One interesting and useful thing to note when viewing the group brackets is that in Japan - the winners go to the left side of the draw table.

Saturday, 10 November 2012: The winner of the 2012 Dynamic Billiards European Open 2012 is Nick van den Berg from The Netherlands. He defeated Fabio Petroni (ITA) with 11:5 in the final match.
The final was probably the most entertaining match of the whole tournament. Both players demonstrated pool billiards to its perfection.
However, van den Berg had the better break shot and his game seemed to be a bit more consistent than Petroni’s. And it was proven to be true. In the 12th rack, Petroni made no ball on the break and van den Berg ran that rack and his next one and took a three-point lead over Petroni. The Italian never recovered from that and in the end could not win one more rack. 11:5 was the final result for van den Berg who not only won this event but also finished this season as the #1 ranked player on the Euro-Tour rankings.
“In the beginning of the season, I set a goal to myself: I really wanted to win this Tour this year”, said van den Berg, “I finished third last year and second the year before so I had this goal throughout the season.” “In the beginning of this tournament, David and Albin had a good lead on me so I knew I had to reach at least the semi-final or even final in order to win the Tour.” “I played very good in the final and I figured out the break shot. While most of the other players struggled with it, I knew how to break. That probably made the difference in this final match as well”.

Nikos Ekonomopoulos will play for Europe
Dynamic Billiards European Open 2012 Basso Hotels & Resorts Spa S.R. 53 Via Postumia Castellana 2 31055 Quinto di Treviso Italy www.epbf.com www.epconline.eu www.eurotouronline.eu www.bhrtrevisohotel.com www.kozoom.com

The newest member of the European Mosconi Cup team 2012 - Nikos Ekonomopoulos (GRE) Foto: EPBF/AMM Young Greek won the shootout in Treviso
Wednesday, 07 November 2012: With a 2:0 victory over Albin Ouschan and a 1:2 defeat against Oliver Ortmann, Nikos Ekonomopoulos won the shootout for the final spot in the European Mosconi Cup Team 2012.
All looked well for Ekonomopoulos. He started strong and got a comfortable 5:3 and 5:4 victory over Albin Ouschan in the first match. Then, Ekonomopoulos faced Oliver Ortmann. The German won the first set 5:2 and Ekonomopoulos had to do something. He struck back and won the second set with the same result. However, the deciding set went in favour of Ortmann who clearly won 5:1.
This created an awkward situation for the third match. Ouschan had no win and was 0:2 in sets; Ekonomopoulos had one win and 3:2 in sets and Ortmann had one win with 2:1 in sets. That meant that whatever happened, Ouschan was out. If Ortmann won the match, he would be on the team. If Ouschan won, it would be Ekonomopoulos’ name on the charts. Ortmann could not find his rhythm in that match. Ouschan played out of this world and defeated Ortmann in two sets with 5:1 and 5:0. That opened the way for Ekonomopoulos to represent Europe on the Mosconi Cup team in London in December this year.
“I am still so excited”, said Ekonomopoulos after the last match. “I had to wait for the last match to finish in my favour and luckily, it did.” “I would have preferred to beat Ortmann but I could not get my way in the third set of that match. Whatever! I am on the team, and that’s the only thing that counts for me now.”

The GB 9 Ball Tour will mark the end of an era next weekend as players descend on the Puma Court Hotel in Daventry for the final time for the 2012 British Grand Prix.
Much like this time three years ago, this tournament and the coming few months will bring with it a period of great transition for the tour. The end of the 2009 season signalled what remains the single biggest change in the tour's history with the move away from Rileys clubs and into hotel venues. For the majority of the last three years and for the whole of the last two, events have been held at the magnificent Puma Court Hotel in Daventry (formerly named the Barceló Hotel). The hotel has proven to be a grand and spacious venue, with Daventry itself well connected to many of the country's main roads and motorways. Countless thousands of racks have been played within the hotel, and many great memories from both on and off the table will be taken from our time here in the last three seasons. On behalf of all players, officials and all other parties associated with the tour, the GB9 committee would like to extend their utmost thanks and gratitude to the venue that many may now consider the spiritual home of 9-ball pool here in Great Britain.
However, as times change the tour looks to expand ever further. Back last month the tour announced exciting new plans for the 2013 season and beyond as a three-year contract was signed with the Carlson Rezidor group, proprietor of Park Inn and Radisson Blu hotels across the world. A three year deal was also struck with the Cedar Court hotel in Bradford which will see one event per season held there.

All wheelchair cue-sport players are invited to compete in the ** MONEY ADDED ** Dynamic British Open 9-ball Championship. This will be an ** open ** handicapped event that does not attract ranking points - ** no dress code **
The 2012 BWPPA season reached it’s climax at the last event in Liverpool with Roy Kimberley just edging out Tony Southern for the coveted end of season no 1 spot, but the pool is not over for the year yet.
The entry fee will be £25 with £100 added to the prize pot, and please can players confirm if they are coming as we are putting on a buffet, so we need numbers confirming before event so we know how much we need to spend on food.
This will be an event to celebrate the season, thanks our sponsors, play some pool, have some food and a few drinks, and wish the team going to the world championships in Germany the best of luck.
We will also have a players meeting at the event to discuss the exciting plans for next season, so we would like as many players attending as possible.
The Premier Inn (Barnsley Central M1/J37) still have double/twin or disabled rooms at Premier Saver rate of £75 for the 2 nights but be quick, they sell out fast, so at that price and the low entry fee and added money, we hope to see you all there.

All photography courtesy & copyright of ©Tadej Tinev & Aleksandra Hribar. Over 120 players attend tournament in Slovenia
Played on 9 foot American tables, this memorial tournament has been so oversubscribed that organisers have been able to greatly increase the prize fund from the amount initially advertised on the official competition poster - this very positive response from the players confirms the promoter's decision to make this an annual affair.
Everything is as you would expect with familiar tournament format, dress codes and the usual rules and racking options - including a star-studded field of players from neighbouring European countries as well as others further afield including Greece, Italy, Austria and even Norway and Estonia!
Please Note: This article originally stated this event was played exclusively on 7 foot tables - this was incorrect as the entire tournament uses full-size 9 foot tables. Pro9 would like to apologise for this editorial error and we are happy to correct this here.
