2012 Olympic-Online Baltic Pool League Champions.

2012 champions are Denis Grabe and Anna Prisjaźnuka

The gorgeous, newly built Pool Masters club in Vilnius, Lithuania, was the host for the 2012 Olympic-Online Baltic Pool League Final. The game of the final event was 10-ball. There were no sensations in the men's division as Denis Grabe (Team Olympic-Online) was a firm winner. However women's final produced something that many had already expected a long time ago, namely, Anna Prisjaźnuka winning the event and becoming the first Baltic Champion from Latvia.

Shane leading the charge for London glory

FOLLOWING on from his undefeated run through the recent US Open 9 Ball Championship, SHANE VAN BOENING cemented his place at the head of the American 2012 PartyPoker.com Mosconi Cup rankings to secure his spot on the team as one of the top two automatic spots.

"I'm so happy to be on my 6th appearance as Mosconi USA team member. As I just won the US Open, I know I'm playing well this year and will try my best to help the team take home the title!"

Such was Van Boening's dominance of the five event series that he beat the second placed player MIKE DECHAINE by an incredible 218 points. In his previous five Mosconi Cup appearances, the South Dakota Kid sports a record of 12 wins from 26 matches.

For second placed Dechaine it will be a return to the team following on from his debut in Las Vegas last year and he will be relishing the chance to show what he can do in front of a partisan, sold-out crowd at the York Hall, London from 10th - 13th December.

"I am very excited to compete in my second consecutive Mosconi Cup, especially with this one being in London. With the crowds being heavily in Europe's favour, this is without a doubt the team I'd want going against it and I'm very confident that we will bring home the gold," said Dechaine.

The highlight of European Pool is almost here!

Tuesday, 30 October 2012: The start of the highlight of the European Pool Year is about to begin. Next week, the BHR Hotel in Treviso, Italy, will again be the venue for a big event of the European Pool Billiard circuit. The “Dynamic Billiards European Open” is different from the “normal” Euro-Tour events. It still holds points for the rankings but the participation into the event is strictly limited.

Only players are eligible to play who are either among the top 32 ranked players in Europe or who have qualified through one of the many qualifying events that have been held all over Europe this year.

Kimberley regains the no 1 spot in the rankings

Riley’s Wavertree was the venue for the Annual British Wheelchair 9-ball Pool Championship on the 20/21st October 2012.

Roy “The Sandman” Kimberley regained the top spot on the tour from Tony Southern, as he wins his second event in a row on the BWPPA tour. Kimberley went into the event knowing that only a win could get him back to the no 1 spot, and as long as Southern didn’t make the final.

Kimberley got his campaign off to great start with a 7-0 win over Scotland’s Graham McClounnan. Roy’s next win was less convincing with a 7-5 win over Craig Welsh in which he was behind for a long while. It was another difficult match for Kimberley in the next round as this time he faced high ranked Phil Hendrickson, and it was Hendrickson who flew through the match with a 7-2 win to advance to the semi final.
This took Kimberley through to the loser’s bracket where he met Matt Duffy. This was a great match with both players playing some good pool, however it was Kimberley who advanced into the semi-final with a 7-5 score line.

Bond wins in front of capacity audience in Portsmouth!

Nigel Bond won the Wyldecrest Park Homes World Seniors Championship without conceding a frame in his four matches at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth.

Bond, who still plays on the main tour and is ranked 45 in the world, beat Welshman Tony Chappel 2-0 in the best-of-three final having seen off Dennis Taylor, Tony Knowles and last year’s winner Darren Morgan en route to the final.

Both finalists had come through qualifying to claim their place in the tournament and former World Championship finalist Bond took a close first frame 68-54 after both players missed opportunities to take a 1-0 lead by potting the black.

The second frame was more one-sided with breaks of 33 and 28 helping Bond to take it 66-4 and claim the £18,000 prize money.

“It is a great feeling,” he said on collecting his trophy. “It has been a great weekend, all of the players have enjoyed it.

“I think I played a bit scrappy yesterday and only really got going in the second frame against Chappel but then I felt I got into a nice rhythm. I was playing great on the practise table but sometimes it is not always easy to put it out there on the match table.”

Runner-up Chappel conceded the best player won. “I have really enjoyed it and I have got further than I expected to get,” he said. “The better man definitely won. Nigel is a tour player and you could see on the table that he was playing like one and looked like one, and that was the difference.”

2012 US Open 9 Ball Championship - down to the final four!

That's right, just four players and four matches remain until we will know the identity of the 2012 US Open 9-Ball Champion. On the winner's side, the battle for the "Hot Seat" is between Alex Pagulayan from the Philippines, and the USA's Shane Van Boening.

Strictly speaking, the main advantage of being in the "no-loss" or "winner's" side of the draw dissipates after this match as anyone who loses from then onwards is out of the battle, although having said that, the player in the hot seat will perhaps be slightly fresher as he will have played less matches.

Still remaining on the one-loss-side are Filipino's Efren Reyes and Dennis Orcollo who will battle for the opportunity to challenge the loser about to arrive from the winner's side, and then get a shot at the single extended race to 13 final to decide the fate of the trophy, the title, and the lion's share of the $170,000+ tournament prize fund.

No movement as top five remain on course

There were no major movements as winner Nick Malai (Albania) is too far adrift in the rankings to move into contention while runner-up Albin Ouschan moves into seventh place and could feasibly crack the top five if results go in his favour in Chesapeake this weekend.

The top five stay the same with World 9 Ball Champion and defending US Open Champion Darren Appleton heading the list - a point ahead of Nick Van den Berg. 2011 Mosconi Cup hero Chris Melling moves into third position while 1995 winning captain Oliver Ortmann (Germany) and Greece's Nikos Ekonomopoulos make up the top five.

The European Mosconi Cup Ranking consists of 10 events - six Euro Tour events and four 'World' events. The 'World' events will carry approximately 50% more points due to the international strength of the field.

Shane building a huge lead in the #1 spot for the ABP Pro Rankings

Shane made it to the finals unscathed with a bye as the #1 ABP seed, and then wins over Gary Abood, Rodney Morris 9-3, Mike Davis 9-7, Robb Saez 9-5.
Archer got a bye as the #4 seed and won over Daulton Riley 9-3, lost to Engel 9-5, and bounced back with wins over Warren Kiamco 9-8, Brandon Shuff 9-3, Mike Davis 9-7, Rodney Morris 9-3, and Robb Saez 9-6.

The finals between Van Boening and Archer started off lopsided with Shane breaking and running the first 4 racks. He went up 5-0 before Archer could mark a game up. But Van Boening's break seemed unstoppable and he climbed to a 9-2 lead within 45 minutes. It looked like it would be a very short night. But here comes Johnny!

Archer came back and rattled off 4 games in a row before Shane could stop the bleeding. One game included a length of the table thin cutshot on the 2ball that was do or die for Archer. Frozen off the backrail, Archer fired in at warp speed the slice and the ball trickled down perfectly in and he followed with a run. At 10-6, the match was still heavily favoring Shane, but a lot closer making every shot more meaningful. Archer knowing this, failed to make any errors and was playing pinpoint position and surefire accuracy on his offense. He climbed to 10-8 to the thrill of the audience.

Ouschan conquers the top spot in the Euro-Tour ranking

Saturday, 20 October 2012: With an extremely strong performance, Nick Malai (ALB) won the title at the Dynamic Billiards North Cyprus Open with a 9:5 victory over Albin Ouschan (AUT).

Already before the match it was clear that Ouschan would be the #1 ranked player of the Euro-Tour rankings after the event, no matter if he would win the final match or not. If that affected his performance in any way can only be assumed. “The balls did not roll in my favour”, said Ouschan after the match, “and the previous matches took a lot of energy off me.

Also, I have reached my dream goal to be the #1 ranked player in Europe already so probably Nick’s victory is alright for me” stated a tired but happy Ouschan after the match. He made more mistakes than in his previous matches and in the end, Malai turned out to be the deserved winner of the final Euro-Tour of this season.
