Ouschan conquers the top spot in the Euro-Tour ranking

Saturday, 20 October 2012: With an extremely strong performance, Nick Malai (ALB) won the title at the Dynamic Billiards North Cyprus Open with a 9:5 victory over Albin Ouschan (AUT).

Already before the match it was clear that Ouschan would be the #1 ranked player of the Euro-Tour rankings after the event, no matter if he would win the final match or not. If that affected his performance in any way can only be assumed. “The balls did not roll in my favour”, said Ouschan after the match, “and the previous matches took a lot of energy off me.

Also, I have reached my dream goal to be the #1 ranked player in Europe already so probably Nick’s victory is alright for me” stated a tired but happy Ouschan after the match. He made more mistakes than in his previous matches and in the end, Malai turned out to be the deserved winner of the final Euro-Tour of this season.

Malai seizes the match off Jentsch

Ouschan terminated Jungo in a fierce battle

Saturday, 20 October 2012: Nick Malai (ALB) is the first man in the final of the Dynamic Billiards North Cyprus Open 2012. He defeated Dominic Jentsch (GER) 9:5.

The match was probably decided by two bad breaks from
Jentsch. Two times, the German scratched on his break shot. That gave Malai the chances he needed. And he made use of them. He played very consistently and rightfully won the match with 9:5.
The other semi-final between Albin Ouschan (AUT) and Dimitri Jungo (SUI) was won by Ouschan with 9:6 after a fierce fight.

Adding to the fact that any semi-final match of a Euro-Tour tournament is a nerve tester for both players, the ranking situation between Jungo and Ouschan was quite delicate. Jungo was the #1 ranked player until today and he would have maintained his position if he would have won the final today. Ouschan needed to win the semi-final match in order to take over the lead in the overall ranking. That created an extra amount of explosiveness for this match. And the player’s performance made it a great game to watch. They both could not get their break through which meant that they both seized the points off their opponent. At a score of 7:6 for Ouschan, the Austrian broke the 9-ball and went on the hill. What a drama for Jungo. Would he be able to stand the heat now? No! Ouschan scored the final rack and proceeded to the final match. He will have the chance to become the only player this season to have won two Euro-Tour events so far.

Furthermore, Ouschan will be the #1 ranked player to go to Italy next month and enter the Dynamic Billiards European Open.

The final match between Nick Malai and Albin Ouschan will start at 18:00 local time.

Clear and tight results in the quarters

Saturday, 20 October 2012: In a close match, Albin Ouschan (AUT) came out on top of Chris Melling (GBR) and defeated him 9:7.

The deciding factor in the match was probably the break shot.

Melling had two dry breaks and most of the time no ball down while Ouschan broke the rack consistently well and ran out after his break shots. That made the difference in the match. Though Melling tried to stay alive in the competition, he could not manage to find the clue for his break shot. Ouschan showed no nerves and punished Melling’s mistakes without any mercy. 9:7 was the final result for Ouschan.

While Albin Ouschan made it to the semi-finals, his sister Jasmin had to give in to Nick Malai (ALB). The Albanian was simply on a roll against Jasmin while she struggled to find her game. 9:1 was the final result for Malai.

The same destiny was shared by Bruno Muratore (ITA). He fell to the sharp blade of the current #1 ranked player, Dimitri Jungo (SUI) with 9:1.

Finally, Dominic Jentsch (GER) eliminated the hopes of Artem Koshovyi (UKR) for an appearance in the semi-finals with 9:5.

The semi-final match between Jungo and Ouschan will be played at 14:00 local time. The semi-final match between Jentsch and Malai will be played at 16:00 local time. The final match will commence at 18:00 local time.
