Dechaine: “The proudest moment of my life”
WITH THE 2011 PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup fast approaching, one of two debutants in the event, Rhode Island’s Mike Dechaine, looks ahead to the tournament and what it means to be representing the USA in pool’s toughest proposition.
Dechaine has enjoyed a stellar year that saw him win the Ultimate 10 Ball event and enjoy a host of high finishes that eventually saw him finish third in the US Mosconi Rankings.
“Words really can't describe how I feel - all I can do is go out there and try to give a 100%,” said Dechaine.
“I am sure I will be a little overwhelmed as well, but that should wear off after day four! It should be fun and I feel proud, honored, excited, and maybe even a little scared. This is the big leagues and these are the best players in the world.”

No chance for Italian Top player
Thursday, 01 December 2011: Serge Das (BEL) overpowered Bruno Muratore (ITA) and won with 9:6.
The match started out very one-sided. Muratore seemed not to get a foot on the floor while Das was playing very well. It took 8 racks for Muratore to begin playing a bit better. At that time, the score was already 6:1 in favour of the Belgian Champion. Though Muratore tried his best, it was already too late for that match. The best he could do was tightening the match to 6:7. Then Das showed no mercy for Muratore and took the next two racks, winning the match 9:6.

Team Europe Captain - Johan Ruijsink
Ruijsink: “We are on a mission...”
EURO CAPTAIN Johan Ruijsink believes his team are on a mission to retain the 2011 PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup when the might of the American and European pool worlds collide at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas from the 8th to 11th December.
Ruijsink will be making his fourth appearance at the helm of Team Europe and following on from a tied match in 2006 and wins in 2007 and last year, his belief is unshakeable.
“It is going to be tough but the team are all great players, they all know how to prepare for events, they have the same goal and mission and because they see each other all year long they respect each other greatly,” he said.
“And believe me on one thing; every player is glad that the other European players are on their team and not on the American side. We would definitely rather play with, than against each other.”
Ruijsink, 45, is credited with helping turn around European fortunes in the event following five barren years without a win. However, for him, that is history.

Wigan's Ian Davenport pockets £2,500 in UK English Pool Masters at Rileys
Ian Davenport from Wigan was recently crowned UK English Pool Masters champion, beating Bellshill's Chris Slack in the final of the competition which took place at Rileys Liverpool.
Ian, who qualified for the final at Rileys Preston, walked away with the £2,500 winner's prize money after a convincing win of 5 - 2.
Launched by Rileys, the UK English Pool Masters is a popular annual competition for amateur pool players which offers an impressive prize fund of £10,000.
Ian said: "I've really enjoyed this tournament and obviously I'm delighted to have won! The £2,500 will come in very handy, it's a nice bonus just in time for Christmas!"

The 2011 GB9 British Grand Prix, Pro Cup V, & Challenge Cup V
The 2011 GB9 season has come to its conclusion with Jayson Shaw, Craig Osborne and Darryn Walker coming away with the final spoils of the year. With this being the final event of the season, and indeed with just under three months until the 2012 season is due to begin, this was the last chance of the year to soak up the atmosphere that GB9 creates until the curtain rises again in February.

Diamond Nine Dynamic Treviso Euro Tour Open
160 players from all over Europe have announced so far the Diamond Nine Dynamic Treviso Open, the final tournament of the 2011 series of the EPBF Euro-Tour. Among the participants are 49 of the top 50 ranked players. The only one missing is Dynamic Austrian Open winner Richard Jones who broke his foot. Hopefully he will recover soon and we will see him back on tour in 2012.
The top ranked Euro-Tour players also feature Austrian female super star Jasmin Ouschan. She will go for the gold together with three other female athletes.
The venue is again the BHR Hotel in Treviso. The BHR has already been the host hotel in April this year and the organizer has made the best of experience there. “We are happy to come back to Treviso once more this year”, says Gre Leenders, EPBF President, “the BHR has been a marvellous host and we are looking forward to staging another successful event here in Italy, together with all our partners.”

Maria Catalano - WLBSA East Anglian Champion 2011

MARIA Catalano believes “every snooker player’s dream is now a real possibility after the confidence boost of victory in the women’s East Anglian Championship.
A 3-0 win over Kent ’s Katie Henrick in the final at Pot Black Sports Bar, Bury St Edmunds, handed Catalano her second title this season.
And it took her to top spot in the World Ladies Billiards & Snooker Association (WLBSA) rankings at the expense of seven-time world champion Reanne Evans, who was preparing for the Players Tour Championship event in Sheffield .
Catalano said: “I managed to get another one under my belt.
“Katie didn’t really perform like she can. I didn’t play too bad and potted solidly. I’m just happy to win, really.”
The 29-year-old from Dudley, West Midlands , who also claimed the Northern Championship in September, insisted her priority is an elusive first world championship title.
“It’s every snooker player’s dream,” she said. “I feel more up for it now. One of the biggest things is confidence. Obviously, winning two tournaments has given me a big boost.
“I’m a little bit more consistent. My B game is stronger now than it used to be. And when I play well I can make the breaks as well. If it all comes together, yes, I fancy beating anyone, to be honest.”
Catalano was forced to battle for every point in her quarter-final match against Portsmouth ’s Emma Bonney. She fought back from 2-1 down to prevail 3-2.
“That was a good match,” she declared. “The decider was a tight one and I managed to nick it on the black. I was pleased with that one as well. It could’ve gone either way.”

Van den Berg: “They’re weaker than last year; we’re stronger”
HOLLAND’S NICK van den Berg believes the European Mosconi Cup team is stronger than ever, while the American side is getting weaker. That was the Dutchman’s candid assessment of the respective sides, and he is confident of victory at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas from December 8 to 11.
Van den Berg was part of the winning European five last year and will be back to help defend the title after coming out in the top five of the gruelling year-long qualification system.
He will be joined by countryman Niels Feijen, Germany’s Ralf Souquet and English duo Darren Appleton and Chris Melling as they face off against an American team comprised of Johnny Archer, Shane Van Boening, Rodney Morris, Shawn Putnam and debutant Mike Dechaine.
However, van den Berg believes the additions of Dechaine and Putnam, who is returning to the team for the first time since 2005, have strengthened Europe’s chances.
“Europe is very big and there are lots of top players to choose from but in the US you only have a handful of players you could pick for the Mosconi Cup,” said van den Berg.
