Wigan's Ian Davenport pockets £2,500 in UK English Pool Masters at Rileys

Ian Davenport from Wigan was recently crowned UK English Pool Masters champion, beating Bellshill's Chris Slack in the final of the competition which took place at Rileys Liverpool.

Ian, who qualified for the final at Rileys Preston, walked away with the £2,500 winner's prize money after a convincing win of 5 - 2.

Launched by Rileys, the UK English Pool Masters is a popular annual competition for amateur pool players which offers an impressive prize fund of £10,000.

Ian said: "I've really enjoyed this tournament and obviously I'm delighted to have won! The £2,500 will come in very handy, it's a nice bonus just in time for Christmas!"

Over 1200 players entered the 2011 tournament, making it one of the biggest and best so far. Qualifiers took place at the 115 Rileys clubs across the UK, and 32 players made it through to the final.

Runner up Chris Slack, who picked up a very healthy second prize of £1,250, nearly didn't take part in the final having arrived with seconds to spare following a car accident. Two other competitors had to pop down to the local shopping centre for a change of clothing having forgotten the dress code of no jeans or trainers!

Maurice Kelly, CEO of Rileys said: "English Pool is a very popular pastime which was underlined by the phenomenal number of entries we received for this competition; this was one of the biggest to date. £10,000 is a big prize fund for any amateur tournament and it's great to be able to give these players the chance to win a share of it."

Rileys are leading the way with their 2011 tournaments, offering the biggest prize funds and best development opportunities for amateur players. Rileys also received a huge response to their Harrow Darts UK Open Singles Championship, with 700 entrants vying for the top prize of £2,500.
